I have only played one Final Fantasy game ever that I actually liked, but since I played that game I have been more of a fan of the series and kind of need some advice on the DS games.

I was at Gamestop and saw two of the DS titles and was considering getting them, but then I decided against it in the end because I did once play a DS version years ago for like 4 minutes and gave up on it, so I wasn't really sure about how it was compared to the others.

Are the DS games worth getting? Have you tried any of them? Which ones are the best?

Also is there one for 3DS as well?

Have you ever played Final Fantasy Tactics?  If you liked that, then you'll almost definitely love A2: Grimoire of the Rift.  I never got very far, but I liked it.  The other game I tried out, but couldn't get into.  Revenant Wings.  I just was plain terrible at it.  However, it got great reviews on Metacritic.  I suppose if I were to buy it, I would enjoy it.  But it's been too long to know of my own, I suppose.  I remember enjoyed Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates a good bit, but it was pretty easy, if I remember right.  I hardly know anything about Chocobo Tales, though.  It's got like a 75, but I don't know why it earned that.

supernerd117 : Nope, never played it. I'll try some of those out. Most of the Ds ones that I saw were cheap.

zanderlex : As far as DS games go, besides the ones Supernerd117 mentioned, there's Final Fantasy III and IV remakes, both of which are the best DS Final Fantasy games. For the 3DS, there's 1 Final Fantasy game worth getting and that's Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call. It's a music game featuring music from the entire series. Other than that, there's one other game that doesn't have Final Fantasy in the title, but it's just like a Final Fantasy game, and that's Bravely Default. That in my opinion is the best game that Square Enix has made since Final Fantasy X.

gamerforlifeforever2 : Music? I do like some of the music from the series, but only from the one game that I did play, so I dont know about the music from other games but I guess I could give them a shot to see if I like them in the long run, thanks for the info.

zanderlex : If you liked the music from one Final Fantasy game then odds are that you'll like the music from most of them since Nobuo Uematsu did most, if not all, of the compositions. If you're planning on getting Theaterythm then get Curtain Call rather than the original since it's basically a more polished version of the original.

As to which games are worth getting, I'd say that Final Fantasy 4 and 3 are probably the best. They're 3d remakes of the SNES originals and they've somewhat fragmented the community. Some purists think that the 3D models ruin the game and it would've been better if they'd simply upscaled the original SNES sprites while others think that the new art style served the games well. I'm of the second camp, and since you don't have any nostalgia for the series, you'll probably be as well.

Outside of the flagship series, Final Fantasy Tactics A2 is pretty good. It's a big step up from Tactics Advance for GBA and it's one of my favorite tactical RPGs. Final Fantasy: 4 Heroes of Light is also really good JRPG and is a prequel of sorts to Bravely Default for 3DS, which is basically a Final Fantasy game and is definitely worth playing.
