San Andreas was a pretty epic movie, especially for a disaster movie, which has to be my favorite genre of them all. It's not really as good as The Day After Tomorrow, but that's just because of nostalgia because the movie itself was still pretty epic and fun to watch. Might have had a few stale moments as well but overall it was one if the coolest looking movies that I have ever seen. I have seen 4 disaster movies, and in terms of effects, this one was above them all, especially in 3D and the studio never lacked in spectacular effects. The first time I saw the movie, I kept thinking that it was over after something big happened but then the movie always pumped out something bigger and more dangerous each time and your eyes were always glued to the screen because this was the kind of movie where you couldn't miss a single second of it.

The acting was pretty good, and really, I wouldn't have had anybody else play the role of the main guy. Sure, having someone else in that role could have probably added some more depth to the story, but the background and looks of The Rock made the character much more fun to watch and more believable. He played a good dad and an even better helicopter pilot who had gone on hundreds of rescue missions. You had Alexandria Daddario play as his daughter and I think she did a pretty good job and held her role quite nicely. In fact I would say she fit into her character better than anyone else, like with the Rock, you couldn't tell if he was acting ir just being himself while with her character she was really in the role. You also have Carla Gugino play as the mother who goes along to rescue the daughter and she did a pretty good job, though I think she might have been a bit too over dramatic. There was a bunch of other major roles in the movie and they all did really well, loves the acting and personality of the step dad and everyone else.

What's the movie about? Well in terms of disaster movies, I'd say it's quite unique. Most movies are about people trying to survive and others trying to help them. This does the same thing but it's actually centered around someone whose job is to actually go and rescue people, instead of just people trying to help people out. The movie is actually quite long and has a lot going on all at the same time, it's about the daughter getting trapped in San Francisco after an earthquake and while other earthquakes are happening and the dad, after rescuing the mother fly to help her, but its a lot more complicated than that. How complicated is it? Well you get your fair share of helicopters, planes, speedboats, tsunamis, meteorologists, happy drama, sad drama, and the plain stupid. Oh, and it doesn't end there, nope the story veers off into like a dozen different directions. Theres also a few scenes that you might not find to be all too interesting but without those, you wouldn't really understand why some things happened the way that they did and you would be really confused.

The effects were what made the movie so special because they were always so intense. There was always something either exploding or crumbling and it was so full of detail. It's like when every building fell, you could see every little piece of the building as it fell and in the last few scenes in the final building were just incredible to watch because of the way the building fell and then you had the tsunami, running around in collapsing buildings, disintegrating bridges, and so much more. It all looked so amazing.

If you like disaster movies and have never saw this one, then I'm shocked. If you don't like disaster movies then I still suggest seeing this just for the amazing effects because it will probably be a while since you see something this cool again. In terms of disaster movies, I would have to say that this was much better than 2012 and Into the Storm combined because it was really that good and overall was an amazing movie.
