Mario Party: Those ARGHH Moments
Oh, you only have 20 coins? Well too bad, stars cost 21 coins. Inflation, buddy.

Mario Party has been one of my favorite series in my life. Playing from my favorite, Mario Party 6, to the new one, Mario Party 10, it's a fun series to play. Now, it has evolved from a 4 player game scattered everywhere to a 4 player game in a squishy car. Honestly, I think it's fine, but I'm not here to talk about that. I'm here to discuss, THOSE moments. Yes, the ones where you land on a Bowser Space, land on a red space with 20 coins, right next to the Star. Actually, I've had both of these happen to me. But my most memorable one was in Mario Party 6 (I think) and I was in the lead with 5 stars (everyone else had 1-3). On the LAST turn, I landed on a Miracle Space. And of course, I swapped stars, like the one in LAST SPACE with ONE star. I was so pissed off. I will never forget that.

So, what are your frustrating moments in Mario Party?
(Doesn't have to be the most memorable, and you can tell more than one moment.)

The most frustrating moments I've ever had in Mario Party are the moments when I get a Star stolen from another player. It infuriates me when the Star I made my way to and payed coins for just gets taken away and another person gets it instead. That's by far the most frustrating part of any Mario Party game.

Ugh this game is extremely frustrating sometimes even more so than Mario Kart. One of my most frustrating moments that caused me to not play the game for a whole month, was when one of the AI players specifically friggin Toad stole a star from me, which later turned out to be what made the difference for me not winning.

Ever since I've had this deep founded hatred for Toad Good times.

I have to agree with gamer. There's NOTHING more frustrating than having a star stolen when the game is close especially. Some games they can be so hard to come by as it is. Of course, on the other hand, I get no greater satisfaction than I do from taking stars away. Especially if it's in a duel. Especially when you're the one who gets challenged.  Or that one board on I think it was 5 or 6, Clockwork Castle I believe. The one where you can buy stars. It seems like every time I get there they cost 40 coins but if I'm playing a computer opponent it's always 5 or 10. Grr.

Mario Party. I love the first three (which are the only ones I've really played), but yes, it has it's frustrating moments. And really, those moments are a lot of what makes it so much fun, because you never know what could happen.

I think the most frustrating are either when a star is stolen, or when you get right up to a star space and it switches due to some random event. I'd also consider nominating those moments when you just barely miss getting a star because you're three coins shy of what you needed.

As for personal experiences, I have one that will forever spring to mind when this topic is brought up: when I finished a round in Mario Party 2 (or maybe 3) and I had the most stars...then the bonus stars were given out...and I lost by one lousy star. I OUTPLAYED YOU!!! But did that matter? Nope, because you hit more "?" spaces than I did, you useless AI! xD Man I love this game.

My most frustrating Mario Party moment was during the story mode of Mario Party DS. On the second board, no matter what, I couldn't seem to pull off a win. I won every single minigame and always made the best move, but I still couldn't seem to get an edge over the computer. Every time I was about to get a possibly game-winning star, the computer would land on a ? space and move it. Or I would have to give stars to someone else. Or something else that screwed me over. At times, the AI would make moves that would hurt itself just to make sure I couldn't come in 1st place. It was very frustrating, especially when I beat every other board in the game in one or two tries.

Mario Party 6 had potential for a ton of these moments, specially with the night and day thingy.

There was that board where you moved in one direction during the day (three turns) and then move on the opposite direction during the night (three turns), a cycle which repeated itself until the party was over. In my opinion, with these rules it never started.

Another frustrating board was that one when the star was in a boat rode by DK, and after a player landed there, it switched places with Bowser who "stole" your stars. Also, landing in a special space on the board could force a position switch between Bowser and DK, prompting more than one big surprise.

Also, how can we forget about the Solo Mode. You had to land on a specific space at the end, otherwise you lose all progress. How many times have we fallen out of the board thanks to this rule.

Mario party 2:

Yoshi would had  to be the most frustrating out of all the AI Players to choose from. He wasn't fair, he was extremely broken to the point where I'd wouldn't game with anyone who uses him in mario party 2. Basically what happended, is that everytime the AI Used Yoshi in Mario Party 2. He would always, and no I'm not exaggrating. Get a Star within a hidden block.

On top of that though, I hate when you lose to a mini-game in two players, it's not you, it's your parenter though. This happens to me a lot, and it frustrates me when I get close enough to the star, and I'm like Oooh I just need 1 minigame to win.... Ends up losing the minigame due to parenter AI bot slacking off.. grrr..

One of my most frustrating moments was when second player has stolen from me coins then star.  Next time I've stopped him and did the same to him. From now on he's not trying even to steal one coin from me but from other players he does continue it.

My most frustrating moments? You need only to look towards the only handheld Mario Party game that people consider good, Mario Party DS, where 2-star hexes exist and are placed abound. This has to be the most frustrating thing. While a Miracle Space frustration happens once in a blue moon, some games can have upwards of 10 2-star hexes scattered along the board, along with likely another several 1-star hexes. Just to clarify it, these 2-star hexes not only take two stars from you, but steal them. This is a four-star reversal that can potentially happen multiple times throughout the course of a single party game. Talk about frustrating.

You mean Chance time? I mean, if anything is going to make you bananas it'll be swapping stars with last place on the VERY LAST TURN.
Another thing that has more to do with an actual board than anything is Castaway Bay from Mario Party 6. See, DK is always on his own ship waiting to give stars. The bad thing? Once DK gives away a star he switches places with Bowser. If you reach BOWSER, you get stuck with losing a star. and since it's a linear board no amount of luck can save you if your opponent gets to DK JUST before you do. It's frustrating and probably my least favourite board from Mario party 6 (I'm weird and actually like Clockwork Castle, which was mentioned earlier.)
