So I just watched the first episode of dragon ball super.

Now I have read that this will be an episodic version of the two movies, Battle of gods and Fukkatsu No F.

Though I haven't seen the resemblance yet, but it is the first episode.

So what do you think about it?

imamonster : Seem okay to me. Disappointed that there isn't an english version of it though. I always thought revival of F was non canon. Glad its not. Maybe frieza will do that Ultimate evolution thing one day again.

I definitely think it's starting out way better than GT did. Anything's better than Goku turning into a kid again lol! Seriously though, it's started out pretty well and I think it'll be a good series.

I'm disappointed so far. Not with the quality but with the story being retold. Why couldn't they have fit this into the timeline somewhere else rather than doing the movie over basically. Sure it'll probably last longer this time around so we'll get more fighting and what not but I already know how the story ends for this part so it won't be as interesting.

It does kind of suck that the story is being retold but at least there's a bit more content to it. Also, they're going to have to build a bridge that shows not only Goku's ascension to SSJGSS but also Vegeta's ascension to both God and SSJGSS, rather than it just being "SURPRISE! LOOK WHAT I CAN DO!", so I'm excited for that.

I'm also hoping it won't be only Goku and Vegeta who are even remotely powerful to do anything anymore. Unless they decide fusion won't allow for God forms, I hope they'll do something with Gotenks. I also hope Piccolo gets some sort of power boost, because I don't think the humans can do much else.

Galacta : that's been the problem since Super Saiyan was introduced. If you weren't a Saiyan you were basically useless. Obviously there were moments in the show when that wasn't true but basically after Goku went SS it was no longer about anyone else but the Saiyans.

Not that that is the worst thing but it does sort of limit what possible story lines you can tell.

Bad guy shows up.... everyone but Saiyans can't do anything but collect dragon balls.... Saiyans win somehow occasionally with the help of dragon balls. Not really unique.

It actually sucks we will get two full arcs being just remakes of a movie. I already watched Battle of Gods, so there's basically no need to watch this series again until that arc is over. And I won't watch Revival of F, so I can see everything unfold in the series.

The only thing happening in Super are all funny gags. Nothing extra added to the story so far.

I can't wait to see the Sixth Universe arc. Only then will Super tell a new story, and only then the hype will be real.

Also, what's with the animators? We got so hyped about how characters looked in the movies and OVAs so far, and now we get dumb faces everywhere? It's like the animators themselves didn't want to do this stupid arc of re-telling a movie. This is what happens when you do something just for the money it generates.

It is somewhat of a letdown that we are just re-watching the events that happened in Battle of Gods, not to mention that some of the voice acting is really awful. *Glares at King Kai*. The overall quality could be better, but at the very least, we are getting something. They could've easily not done anything with DBZ and left us hanging after what happened in Battle of Gods. I'm probably going to wait a while for new episodes to come out until this arc ends because it is essentially repeating what we already know. 

I really hope to see the other characters do a little more. They should give Piccolo like a new ability, technique, ascension or something. It has always been about the super saiyans, but I would really like to see characters like Tien, Android 18, and Piccolo do a bit more. (Asking the same of Krillin and Yamcha is a bit of a stretch XD). I don't like the way that every fight turns out with a SS+ doing all the fighting, and everyone else is just sitting on the sidelines giving us blatant observations and play by plays on what's happening. Some action on their part would definitely be a breath of fresh air for a change. 

After watching what I have watched this feels like what we should have gotten from Battle of Gods.

I know a lot of people probably liked that movie but I felt it was rushed (just like every DBZ movie ever made basically). The story is basically the same but it is taking a bit longer to play out and we are getting a slight bit more information this time.



The only thing I really miss was the "That's my Bulma" moment. However, that's the only thing I actually loved about Battle of Gods. The rest wasn't actually that great.

So, I've been watching this series for a while now and I'm starting to get into it more and more. I was excited for the tournament that they had come up with but I feel like the fights aren't lasting long enough. I don't want 20 episode fights like Goku vs Frieza but I'd like fights to last longer than 1 episode as well.

Still, I see potential for some of the later fights I think as well as the 5th member of Goku's team that hasn't been named yet (not sure if they are bringing someone in for that one).

Anyone else still watching this....

I'm not really loving the tournament so far. It's been okay but not great. Some of the fights were over way too quickly and I didn't like the way Piccolo was used.

Also, it seems like the entire point of the tournament was to build up towards whoever the last guy is on the opposing team. He seems to be the guy that matters the most. My guess is that he is going to beat everyone down until Goku gets a turn again and then they will fight.


I am glad about the name change to Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan. I like that it is Super Saiyan Blue now. Easier to say and not nearly as confusing for people who haven't kept up on the newer stuff that has come out.

Not a big fan of the change in animation so far, but I love the story.  I've been watching since it first came out, and was a little disappointed that it seemed it was just putting filler in the two newest movies.  I am glad that they went beyond that, and can't wait to see how it ends up.  There needs to be an English version soon because I can't stand most of the voices.  Vegeta's head is bigger than his body almost, and I know it has always been big, but it is enormous now.  I normally like my anime subbed, but the voices are just annoying

So, I'm watching episode 38 and I just realized that Vegeta has beaten 3/4 so far. That's nice. I know he won't beat this new guy but he'll probably put up a good fight. At least, I hope he does. I expect Goku will come in and beat him later because Goku

Still, I'm hoping this fat lasts a lot longer overall than the previous ones. One or two episodes per fight doesn't seem like enough. This guys seems more important than the previous people that were fought.

Vegeta went Blue from the get go. He obviously recognizes this guy as a real threat as opposed to the previous people he fought. Hit seems to have gotten his first hit in on Vegeta. This guy is fast, and doesn't seem to be hitting very hard against Vegeta. It's like he is barely touching him but it is still knocking Vegeta around. Strange. Vegeta getting ready to blast the guy and he just stood there and then he hit him out of nowhere. I'm going to be annoyed if Goku can beat him but Vegeta can't. Goku isn't that much better than Vegeta anymore. And Vegeta is down! Not surprised really. Vegeta dealt with the trash guys and now the actually tough opponent shows up and he can't touch him. Poor Vegeta.

And now they are explaining the guys power without even knowing for sure if it is his power. Gotta love Dragonball writing. Strange, Goku is next. I'm surprised Goku is next and not the weird pink thing. Hahaha. The pink guy is still considered the strongest in the universe. That's funny. And it sounds like it was a lie in order to get Goku and Vegeta to try even harder.

Goku vs Hit - oh good. Goku can't touch him either. I'd be annoyed if he could right off the bat. He'll figure something out for sure but at least it'll take him some time. Of course. He blocked something. And he got a hit off too. Just barely. And now he's getting better. Always Goku to figure out how to beat someone this quickly.

And that's the end of the episode!

Episode 39

So, this episode starts with Goku going Super Saiyan Blue. And Goku is going all out it looks like. And apparently Hit is at his limit for regular fighting. Even with the time leap ability it seems like Goku can keep hitting him. Though that smile at the end is worrying.

Hit just powered up somehow. Not clear what advantage it gives him exactly but I'm sure it'll get explained very quickly. Goku doesn't seem to think Hit powered up at all. There must be something more to it. And there it is. So, his form didn't change at all. That seems sort of lame.... he doubled the time leap time. I mean, that's a big advantage because it allows him to do more in that stretch of time but to have that happen during the fight seems lame. Though I'm glad Goku isn't going to just win straight out.

Looks like Hit is giving him a chance to continue this fight. Goku doesn't seem to stand a chance but Hit is going to keep fighting anyway. Seems like Goku still thinks he stands a chance at winning. They are doing a TON of standing around.

Uh, he just improved again for basically no reason.... his time leap jumped from 0.2 to 0.5 with nothing to cause it. And Goku is standing. Looks like Goku has been hiding a technique. Interesting. I wonder what the new color will be.... oh, maybe there is no new color. That's too bad. WHAT!?!? Kaio Ken! Finally they thought to use this in conjunction with Super Saiyan. I'm actually kind of glad they did it this way rather than just making up a new technique. The combination is finally possible. Looks like this fight is going to be over soon. One final Kamehameha and the episode ends.

geeogree : This is by far my favorite episode of Super and 1 of my top 5 episodes of all the series (DB DBZ DBGT) I loved the Kaio ken and the Kaio Ken X10 was amazing I also loved that goku explained how it was possible now.

I was massively disappointed in the two new movies and the first few episodes of Super, for very lengthy reasons I believe I have mentioned in a few other threads, so I won't rant as much here. XD

So, as a long time fan, of the movies (most of them, and yes, even Bio-Broly... You be quiet... XD), the video games (Budokai Tenkaichi 3 being my favorite), Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and even GT (Some parts... Mostly the fighty bits...), would you guys recommend me to keep watching Super or just keep playing the games? Because I tried watching Super, and every time Beerus talks about food (which is a good 90% of his dialogue) I want to stop watching and do something else... Which is actually what I did. XD

Really? Again? : if you didn't like the movies or the early stuff for the TV show then you likely won't enjoy the rest of the series either. Super follows a similar style and feel to the movies and what you've already seen. Doesn't mean that the newest stuff that isn't part of what happened during the movies is bad but if you didn't like that stuff I doubt you'll like the new stuff. Might be worth starting to watch AFTER the end of the 2nd movie story line and see if you can stand it.

So first of all i've been keeping up with super and actually just got done watching the new episode.

I've got to say that I was not a massive fan of the approach the series took with the first two arcs, but I definitely have enjoyed most of the new arc.

But there are some other flaws I want to talk about. First of all,  yeah, the animation while it has gotten better since the series began still has some big problems, prime example are the far shots, when characters are far in the distance they just look awful, tbh.

  I definitely think that the fights should be longer, 99 percent of the fights are just one episode which just doesn't fit for dragon ball, a series known for its stupidly long fights.

And also the story just feels a bit awkward at times and it suffers from the modern trend of animes that is.. blatant exposition.

geeogree : While I loved the fact that they brought back the kaio-ken, I still think the episode wasn't that great in certain parts, for example the fact that hit can just improve for no real reason other than, its handy for the plot.

Really? Again? : first off. Bio broly isn't that awful as people say  But anyway super follows a very similar format to the old movies, but also very similar to the new ones. I say try to watch the new saga not the movie sagas, it shouldn't be that difficult to find at what episode it begins.

lordbelial669 : I know many people that said that at first but got used to it after a while, personally I prefer the sub over the dub.

imamonster : totally agree. I have no idea how or why he improves other than it was convenient to make him tougher to beat for Goku. Also, if he can use the time leap for 0.5 seconds then it should be basically impossible for Goku to hit him with an energy blast.

This last episode felt like a couple of 5 year olds playing a game where each one changes the rules to help themselves win no matter what the other just did.
