Ok, after I seen some videos about the difference between all kinds of football, this got me thinking about making this poll, when someone tells you "football" what do you normally think about. This more likely be a regional poll, but they could be some out there that thinks that the country plays football and it's not football to your point of view, it's a totally different sport.

Like associated football (or who Americans & Canadians call "soccer"), that is the generic meaning of the word "football" but some countries does things a little differently like in the United States, Canada, and Australia.

What do you call football, well, football?

For me, I really call all 3 football sports "football" (I don't call soccer soccer, I also call that football as well).

I remember going over this in Spanish class because when I'm writing, I have to make the distinction between Fútbol (soccer) and Fútbol Americano (American football)

Whenever I hear the word football, I immediately associate it with "soccer" simply because it more accurately describes how the game is played. I address each of them as  American football, and football respectively that way it minimizes confusion for those that might call it something else in their region. It's fascinating to see all the various names different regions and cultures give to the exact same thing.

How did the US football get the name anyway? Because there's a punter who kicks the ball?

Well, there also Rugby, but I guess that's an entirely different sport. I know soccer to be soccer and football to be football.

Also there is futbal.

It depends on who I'm talking to, or the context in which the word "football" is said.

If I'm talking to an American, odds are, I think about American Football. If I'm talking to someone else, outside the US, then odds are I'm thinking about what Americans refer to as "soccer".

When I say "football" I'm talking about football.

When I say "soccer" I'm talking about futbal/futbol for pretty much the rest of the planet, outside the USA. I've seen it spelled both ways.

In this country, football means FOOTBALL and soccer means SOCCER. Simple as that. I've never had to make a distinction calling it "American Football" nor will I. It was the way I was brought up, so if you have a problem with it than blame my parents XD

I've seen it everywhere on the Internet especially in Youtube comments, People (from Europe for example) complaining about ''it is not soccer, it's football!'' I don't mind the difference in words used in different countries. Something wrong with the USA's color and the UK's colour, nope!

I call football (soccer) simply football but sometimes soccer too because of ''Sakka Yarouze, Inazuma Eleven''. The American Football is also just American Football for me. But I think if an American says ''football'' I will earlier think about American Football than football (soccer).

Even still in some countries football(soccer) is a Very heavy matter to some people like where I live (Honduras) soccer is played very  frequently and its a very popular sport amongst people and some other people are really heavy and easily offended by the matter but at the end of the day its just a game with a lot of ramblings about the name and some people should just call it what they want to call it even if its soccer or football.(meanwhile there is American football without its own name like soccer does)

Too many footballs. Soccer (football) American Football and Rugby Football (full title of rugby but very few use it). It all depends on who I am talking to. If i am talking to people outside of America then it is usually soccer and if it is someone in America then most likely then I think of American football. I don't get why people get angry about it. Soccer was used first in the UK and it wasn't till the 1970's where it was considered an "Americanism" even though it isn't. I think Rugby used the term "football" first but both rugby and soccer did come around at similar times so I may be slightly wrong.

When I hear "Football" it usually refers to Canadian/American Football. However, its use for Soccer around these parts is becoming more prolific.

It's strange, all this dispute. Especially since the Brits first created the word "Soccer".

It depends on the accent. No, really. If I hear an American say the word "football", I know they mean American Football. If I hear a Brit (or anyone with a non-American accent for that matter) say "football", I know they mean Soccer.
The context helps too. "Football Game" = US Football. "Football Match" = Soccer. "Football Field" = US Football. "Football Pitch" = Soccer.

(I just wish we could all agree, regardless of region, to call US football "American Football" and Assoc. Football "Soccer". Both sides have to use a term they don't like, but it removes the ambiguity.)

When I hear the word football, I always refer to American Football. That's the only one I care about, and the NFL happens to be my favorite sports league to watch. I've never been a big soccer fan.

Having grown up and have lived in the US my whole life, when I hear "football" In most contexts I think of American Football.

If I'm talking to someone not originally from the USA, then I would assume they were talking about the game that I refer to as Soccer.

Whenever I use the word or hear the word Football, I always think of American Football.

I am not a soccer fan whatsoever and I talk to people who like American Football, and I am a huge American Football fan, so it is just natural that I would think of that kind of Football.

People use Soccer when they are talking about Soccer so I know no other Football.

Even though I like soccer a lot more, I use the term football just for American Football even though I dont actually like the sport. As for the other two, I'd probably just call those football as well but Ive never actually had to call them anything at all since I never had anything to do with them ever.

I refer to soccer when I say football as that is what it is commonly used for in most places outside of the US.

But to be nice and avoid confusion I tend to use the term soccer instead when talking to americans if I ever do talk about it which isn't that often (since most americans don't seem that interested in it anyways ).

When I say football I usually mean soccer since American Football rarely is played here in the Netherlands, and most people know the difference. When I confuse people I start to use soccer however.
