Vizzed RGR Plugin 2.30 is ready for download! This release primarily consists of bug fixes, an architecture upgrade, better stability and a few other enhancements. Download link can be found at the bottom of this post.

If all goes well as in this version works fine for enough users, this release and the previous 2.25 release will become mandatory upgrades if you're using an earlier release. The reason the previous release will be a mandatory upgrade instead of this one is because there was a huge architecture upgrade within the plugin that took place between 2.25 and 2.30 so it's possible that the new plugin might not function properly for some people. 2.25 will be a mandatory upgrade for many reasons and if for some reason you need to know those reasons, feel free to ask.



List of all the upgrades and enhancements since the 2.25 release

MAME/MESS Updated
We've updated MAME/MESS to 0.160 from 0.153. 0.153 was the version used in 2.25 and before that we used a much older version. This helps increase game compatibility and playability for Arcade games and MESS emulated systems. It also helps improve MAME/MESS Netplay (which was added in 2.25).

FCEUX Updated
This improves the compatibility and playability of NES games.

Forced Game Download if File Size is Different
The plugin now forces a file download if the file size of the downloaded game doesn't match the file size of the game that the user is trying to download. This will also fix the issue where a user plays a game for 1 system and then later plays a game with the same file name for another system but ends up playing the game for that previous system because it has the same file name.

Upgraded Architecture
The plugin process is exe based instead of dll based now which helps increase stability and playability a little. This is beneficial for many reasons but here's 3: 1. It'll be easy to upgrade the plugin in the future to allow multiple instances; 2. When the plugin launches, we can set its process priority which would allow games to run better for some users; 3. It'll make it easier to eventually create a plugin that loads the emulators externally each time you play an emulator for the first time (or when you play it after it's been updated) which would mean that the plugin would only be around 1 MB and we could do updates to the systems without needing a new plugin release. This also fixed the issue with Dreamcast games in Google Chrome.

Other Various Fixes
-I have more control over MAME/MESS which will help me better fine tune various games systems
-Ability to swap discs in Sega CD (I still have to update play window to reflect this)
-Ability to swap disks for various MESS systems (I still have to update play window)
-MESS mouse support (specifically for CD-i)
-Fixed MAME/MESS full screen crunch issue
-Plugin now generates a crash report on your PC here: C:ProgramDataVizzedVizzedRgrPlugin
-Plugin is less likely to crash your internet browser when it crashes
-Improvements to how screenshots and videos are handled with MAME/MESS
-Many other various bug fixes and plugin improvements

The site's traffic and revenue continues to drop and so have the donations lately. I was barely able to pay for the site servers this month which is the first time I've struggled to pay for them in probably 2+ years. On top of that, I currently owe Tom for work that he's done lately so I need to work on getting caught up on what I owe him. Attention Windows 8 Users, the plugin will not work if you use Internet Explorer from the Metro App screen. You must either launch Internet Explorer from the desktop, use a different internet browser or launch the site using the Vizzed RGR Plugin App icon.

I'm getting more and more tempted to download it, but for now I'll wait until my computer upgrades to Windows 10 so I can really test how it works for me. Still more than a month until that happens, though, I wonder if temptation will consume me before that date.

As far as I recall, 2.25 was working very well, it could perfectly be mandatory from now on. However, if this 2.30 works well too, I would discard 2.25, mainly because of all the PMs we have received about Dreamcast problems, now we have another browser supporting it and those are good news.

I just downloaded this new version of the plugin, and then I went to go play a Nintendo 64 game. I like to use a certain graphic plugin (the Rice one) that usually isn't the default one anymore. I've tried with many N64 games, but every time I try to switch the graphic plugin, it displays a white screen that says "This game is not playable".

I've tested it on both Mupen64 Plus and 1964, and I get the same result with both emulators. This never happened before, only after downloading the new plugin. It doesn't just happen in one browser. It happens in both Google Chrome and Internet Explorer, so I'm assuming it isn't a browser issue.

Thanks for releasing this new update to the plugin though!

Davideo7 : I have download rgr plugin 2.30 but I cant play mednafen Nes games, I use chrome, I can play mames full,nes games small windows but when I try to play with mednafen Nes games (because I love to play fullscreen) I cant. Sorry for my poor english.

Oh wow! You're welcome I thought it might just be a little slip in the coding since you changed what it's based on (exe instead of dll based). Thank you for fixing the problem!

Darthdaishi : Thanks. Yeah a ton of time and money has gone into this release. I've invested so many hours into the 2.30 release and probably $1500+ has gone into this release alone! We had no idea that it'd cost that much but so many problems just kept coming up but thankfully Tom continued to work on it after my budget ran out and is allowing me to owe him instead of having to pay for those updates up front which was awesome of him!

DisneyGamer : This has been a common problem if the plugin didn't fully download. Try deleting the plugin installer and then download from the mirror link.

Erm, hello guys.

I seem to have a problem with the RGR Plugin 2.30 - as a matter of fact no matter what game I try to play, the ROM itself loads perfectly fine, but when the loading screen goes to a point where it reads Emulator Loaded on all previous occasions, with having 2.30 installed it reads this instead: Starting Emulator (GBA). followed by Emulator Closed.
Most of the games I play on here are GBA games, and I have 'bought' the GBA tool, so I do not know if this has anything to do with the occasion, but how can I work around this issue?

I run Windows XP and the most recent variant of Firefox - assuming that 38.0.5 is the most recent one.

It has been a few weeks at least since I've played one of the DreamCast games, but the previous release worked just fine for me. With 2.30, the installation when fine for the plugin itself, but when I go to play Sonic Shuffle it says "failed to download ROM". Which doesn't even make sense since I should already have it downloaded anyway. 
The reason I mentioned it's been a few weeks is because I use Google Chrome. Has support for the plugin already ended? Or is there a different issue at work here? Thanks!

yeah but what bites is that soon this RGR plugin will no longer be supported in chrome, I wonder why
