So, recently it was announced that Nintendo would once again be hosting those old Nintendo World Championship competitions. You know, this thing?

Cartridge

It was a pretty great competition at its time, And it was a lot different from the norm. You have people competing against each other for the highest score on a multitude of games where you have a limited time to complete each task. They even made special cartridges for these events, A regular silver one and a special gold one, which were given out to winners of the competition. If I'm not mistaken, you can even find the ROM of the cartridges on the RGR!

So what is the new competition going to be like? Will they take the same path the old ones did and make an entirely different cartridge just to host the games? Or will they come up with some other creative idea? Well, it turns out they didn't really take either of those paths. If you've ever heard of the game "NES Remix", that's exactly what their going to be using. It's a simple game, but it's very limited in terms of what games there are to choose from. There is really only the oldest games Nintendo has to offer, like the original Super Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda. Boring, right?

Some of the things NES Remix includes are quite like the old competitions that were held back in the day, but the problem is, this is no longer "back in the day". Sure, it is pretty fun as a stand alone game that everyone can play, but you need to be a little more creative than that when it comes to competitions, Nintendo. It includes the same game timer, with certain tasks that you need to complete in a certain amount of seconds. For example:

A task

I don't know about you, but this just seems a bit..unoriginal to me.

So maybe we're going to let them slide with the old games. Of course it would have been much more cooler to have maybe thrown in some of Nintendo's newer games into the mix. So how about what places the event is going to be held? Well, it is called world championships, but if you look at the places it's being held, well, it really isn't, to be honest. Although the last events were held exclusively in the US of A, this one just dwindles the window even further with only eight events being held. They are spread out, yes, but everything in between is left out. If I wanted to go to one of the events, I surely wouldn't drive out a long ways just to get there. (Assuming I didn't live in Washington, because one of the very events is being held in Tacoma ;3)

Sadly, we don't know much about the competition so far. But this could also give us a little hope that maybe they'll change some things around. Instead of relying on a boring game they've already made, maybe make people play separate games, some old, some new. Just to make it a little more interesting. But at least include some more places to play, because eight places is just pitiful.

So what do you think, are you excited for the "world" championships?

Eirinn : Thought you would like to be summoned, hopefully I wrote your name correctly ;w;

Nintendo's "World" Championships seem to be about as worldly as Davids competitions

I'd actually like to attend one of these. Seeing new people play old games is really interesting to me since nowadays you have CoD championships and nothing else.

I also wonder how much one of those cartridges are worth @.@ Getting my hands on one of those would be near impossible, but totally worth it.

Nice job on the article

Ermagersh! Someone spelled my name right! xD *instalikes*

Well this is just lame, Nintendo. Eight locations? That means roughly 80% of the states are left out unless their citizens want to drive across the country to play. And what about the other countries? Back in the day this was understandable, but this is modern day, Nintendo. What about internet connection? Wouldn't it be better to just let people sign in to designated servers and play from their own 3DS? That way it really is "world championship".

Also I agree that they should have at least used some new games, if not only new games. They used NES games back in the first competition instead of Game & Watch or the Atari VCS (2600) Mario Bros. They used their newer games then, and they should do the same now. That's just my two cents though.

Nice work on the article, ginger.

So, normally when I hear about a gaming tournament, I get really excited. However, when someone tells me they are going to do something then they don't, it makes me kind of mad. When I hear the words, "World Championship" I think of the whole world getting a chance to compete, not 8 cities in one country. I mean, come on Nintendo. You have billions of dollars to spend. Why would you only do 8 tournaments in the USA when you are a Japanese based company. Seriously, I am starting to lose hope in the console industry. First SEGA releasing the monstrosity that is Sonic Boom, then the copy-paste game Mario Party 10. Video game companies need to shape up.

Kind of wish it was more than 8 cities. I would have tried to qualify, but there weren't any locations close to me. I was pretty excited about Egoraptor making it to the world championships and hoped he would win. I would like to see the competition made into a video game that is done at the same format as nwc 2015, with the same challenges to be released for the wii u and 3ds. You could make your own character to replace someone or compete as your favorite to see if you could have been the nwc 2015 championship if you lived outside of the USA
