I was taking a football knowledge quiz, and I happened to stumple upon the formula that is used to determine a quarterback rating. I always wondered how it was done.

Highest possible QB rating is 158.3
a = (((Comp/Att) * 100) -30) / 20
b = ((TDs/Att) * 100) / 5
c = (9.5 - ((Int/Att) * 100)) / 4
d = ((Yards/Att) - 3) / 4

Yeah, this is pretty cool. Obviously I didn't know exactly how it was done, but I figured that yards per attempt is a big part of this whole thing...and I think its something that most people don't notice. For example, here are Tony Romo and Aaron Rodgers stats from last season:

Tony Romo - 304/435 69.9% 3705 yds 8.52 ypa 34 TD 9 INT 113.2 rating
Aaron Rodgers - 341/520 65.6% 4381 yds 8.43 ypa 38 TD 5 INT 112.2 rating

Even though Aaron Rodgers had 4 more TDs and 4 less INTs, Tony Romo has a better rating because he has a better completion percentage and a better yards per attempt. So a good rating is not all throwing a bunch of TDs and no INTs...its way more than that. Its fascinating to say the least.

MattyIce : yeah, it was a complete accident finding that too. I felt uber smart for awhile, so I looked up Football history quiz on Bing, and somehow, I got some test about general knowledge, like " What are the dimensions of the field? " and " What is the size of the uprights? " or " how many players per team are on the field at a time. " Stuff like that. Well, there was a question about the passer rating, and I can't remember if I answered it correctly or not, but it gave that formula as reasoning for whatever the answer was.

QB obviously stands for QuarterBob.

Think the patriots will still make the playoffs next season with bradys suspension? Who is their backup anyway, tebow?
