Death Counter - 118 Nightmare Realm deaths - 30

01 - Sea of Flame 2 - Completed in 5 days
03 - Infernal Sky 2 - started May 27th. Completed June 6th
04 - Kaizo Caverns - completed in about a week (May 1st - May 8th)
07 - Legendary - July 9th-18th
08 - Nightmare Realm - Started August 1st - Day 4 - So I checked a wiki to see what areas I had left to do and I figure I have 2 areas left. Area one is Caves of Madness which leads to Home of the Swarm and has 3 wools and then back to the castle in the cold area, Balestein I think, for the black wool and diamond block. I might actually go try and get the diamond block (4 I think) so I can make armor out of it. Actually, I might also be able to make an enchanting table out of some of the diamonds. I'll have to really think about how I want to use them.

Either way, I spent some time cutting down trees and resupplying tonight. I was getting really low on resources again and I want to be ready for the next areas. I took a peek into Caves of Madness and ran into what looked like a fun box covered in silverfish spawners. I gave up on that area and ran away. I have no idea how I'll tackle that. Actually, I might know how.... I have some TNT that I salvaged out of the original house. I could drop it on the fun box.

Anyway, managed no deaths this time but spent a lot of time getting ready and torching things up. I've used SO many torches so that I can travel safely it's pretty ridiculous. I should take a screenshot of some areas just to show it.

09 - Sunburn Islands - not started
10 - Spellbound Caves - Completed in a week (July 2nd - 8th).
11 - Lethamyr - completed June 15th
12 - Inferno Mines - not started

08 - Nightmare Realm - Started August 1st - Day 5 - I wrote a whole thing about how the Caves of Madness went but I lost it. I got the Cyan wool and I got to the entrance of the Home of the Swarm. Died quite a few times but didn't lose much. Lots of iron in this area so I've got new armor again to take on the Home of the Swarm. Spent 3 hours on this so I'm taking a break for the night.

08 - Nightmare Realm - Started August 1st - Day 6 - progress feels like it's slowing down. This new area is tough going. So many cobwebs and mobs and spawners. And it took me forever to find the area that led to the next fleecy box. I also built a way up the cavern from the last wool/area to the Home of the Swarm area so I could travel safely/quickly back and forth.

Took my time building ladders down to the blue wool area. Not a fan of having an empty cavern behind me while trying to fight to the fleecy box. Went pretty well overall getting the blue wool. Going to continue working my way down. Needed to take the blue wool to safety and make more ladders and picked up some more sand from a chest. Still pretty pleased even though it felt like I was making progress really slowly through the area. No deaths this time though. Fresh armor is great especially when my boots and helm had broken sometime yesterday.

Death Counter - 126 Nightmare Realm deaths - 38

01 - Sea of Flame 2 - Completed in 5 days
03 - Infernal Sky 2 - started May 27th. Completed June 6th
04 - Kaizo Caverns - completed in about a week (May 1st - May 8th)
07 - Legendary - July 9th-18th
08 - Nightmare Realm - Started August 1st - Day 7 - So, got back to the area I got the blue wool from and started working my way further down. Had to do a bunch of laddering and fighting to get my way down to the next level. Once I had that lit up I started working on the next ladder down and got surprised by a creeper which blew up my first ladder, blew out the ground underneath me and caused me to fall to my death. I was pretty annoyed because it takes a long time to ladder down and I lost all my stuff.

I got back and realized that my sand pillar had dropped down into the next level so I built on top of it and made one giant ladder down to the bottom. I put a chest down in the level above and did a "suicide" lighting run. This just means running through with only torches and armor on to light up as much as possible and then running away (if possible). Thankfully with ladders that is easier. Once I had the area lit up it was a matter of time before I killed enough stuff to get a foothold on the area and take out the fun box and light things up. Now on to the fleecy box. It was encased in bedrock with a 1x2 (that's 1 horizontal) wide opening. Didn't take me long to remember (but a long time to get there) that the forest area had endermen spawners in it and all I would need were a couple of ender pearls and I'd be good to go. After about 30 minutes of travel + killing + travel time I had the green wool and was on my way back.

And now that I'm out of that area can I say how much I hate silverfish. I get why they exist but they feel like a lazy way to make an area even more difficult. Obviously they work at making an area harder but that doesn't mean I have to like it. Anyway, on to the castle and diamond and block wool next. Might be able to get that done tomorrow if I have enough free time for it. Going to need to move a fair bit of stuff to get ready.

04 - Kaizo Caverns - completed in about a week (May 1st - May 8th)
07 - Legendary - July 9th-18th
08 - Nightmare Realm - Completed (Aug 1st - 7th) Day 7 cont. - So, my wife is having a girls night tonight so I'm home with the kids and I wasn't really tired when I wrote up my progress for today so I decided to keep playing. I got set-up over at the castle and was ready to tackle the area with the diamond blocks. I built my way up into the ceiling to take out the spider, cave spider and blaze spawners. With those all gone it was easy to collect 3/4 blocks of diamond. One got lost in nearby fire and I was pretty annoyed. Having only 2 blocks available to use I decided against using any for armor. I really wanted full diamond armor though

Stashed the diamond block away and continued up the castle. Ran into a huge ghast/blaze rooftop that spawned a LOT of monsters. Thankfully it could actually be avoided and so I did just that. Worked my way up through another 3 main rooms or so and found myself face to face with the black wool. Once I realized what I had in front of me I took it and ran. Picked up the diamond blocks I had set aside and made the run home. Got the blocks on the monument and in just a week I completed Nightmare Realm!

I will admit that once I get started on a map I get pretty obsessive about completing it. I spent most of my free time over the last week on this map. And considering the number of deaths I'm surprised I didn't actually take a full break from it. The nearly full day on Monday that I had free to play really helped me accomplish a lot and stay motivated.

Snowdeath : summons cause you seem to be the only one who cares or appreciates what I did. Also, I freely admit to looking up how to get the red wool. I did not figure that out on my own nor would I have if I had to. I didn't want to get that far into the map only to have to start over. I probably would have quit and not done the map ever again

Daaaaaang, congratulations, Geeo. That's quite an achievement, in my opinion... One you should brag about.

Personally I would never make it in those worlds, because I'm not such a survival player, not yet at least.

Take a day off and celebrate. Which one are you going after next?

Snowdeath : not sure. Probably Sunburn islands because it's one of the easier maps from what I've heard. Never played it through myself. After that it'll be Inferno Mines and Waking Up to pick from and I honestly think those 2 will be more challenging than Nightmare Realm overall. Nightmare realm was tough from the get go but never got more difficult from then on. Most maps start easy and then build to a pretty big, epic difficult ending. Nightmare realm didn't have that. I actually think I died more times just trying to light areas up than from taking on dungeons. Or at least it felt that way.

Death Counter - 131 Sunburn Islands - 5

01 - Sea of Flame 2 - Completed in 5 days
03 - Infernal Sky 2 - Completed (May 27th - June 6th)
04 - Kaizo Caverns - Completed in about a week (May 1st - May 8th)
07 - Legendary - July 9th-18th
08 - Nightmare Realm - Completed (Aug 1st - 7th)
09 - Sunburn Islands - Started Aug 8th - Day 1 - What a difference a map (and a version) makes. I've found the white, orange, magenta, light blue, and yellow wools so far. I've died 5 times (all in the orange wool dungeon) to custom mobs that I wasn't expecting. I kept dying trying to get back to my death pile. Really annoying.

I've found the victory monument and more loot than I could carry in 10 trips from these dungeons. I'm in shock to be honest. It's nothing like the earlier maps were. I was thrilled to get full leather armor and I'm in full enchanted iron armor (level 1 enchants but still ).

This map won't take me long at all. I think the hardest part will be finding dungeons out in the ocean. So far I've found a bunch in the starting islands but I doubt I'll find more than a few more before needing to go out on a boat to find the rest. Still a refreshing change of pace to the previous 2 maps. Death isn't lurking around the corner but each dungeon has been a moderate challenge (except the first one - 2 zombie spawners and then I found the wool ).

Still happy to be in a new version of MC. Enchanting is easier, I have anvils to work with, TONS of enchanted items already in the map, game functions are more current. The only change so far that I hate has to be the skeletons. They shoot faster than they used to. I got so used to the speed of the shooting that this new speed is really frustrating.

10 - Spellbound Caves - Completed in a week (July 2nd - 8th).
11 - Lethamyr - completed June 15th
12 - Inferno Mines - not started
14 - Waking Up - not started

Snowdeath : summons, cause you care and might keep talking to me about the maps

Of course I'm interested in reading about your progress!

I haven't seen the speedrun of Sunburn Islands, but it sounds like one of the easier maps you've encountered... Yes?
I'm actually curious about one thing... how do you know how far a dungeon is into the map, is there a limit?

5 deaths is actually good so far, in my opinion, keep up the great work.

Snowdeath : the dungeons all have a color of wool assigned to them and depending on the order of the wool (which you can see from any picture of the final victory monument) shows the relative difficulty of each dungeon (and how far into the map you should be). The exception is the brown wool which is always the easiest in these maps. Usually it involves some sort of joke and is quite easy to get to.

Sunburn Islands is super super easy. The only resource I've gathered manually is iron so that I could have full iron armor. I've also managed 2 level 30 enchants on diamond leggings (which I found) and an iron sword (which got me sharpness 4, unbreaking 3, fire aspect 2, knockback 2 I think). I'll check when I play today.

So yeah, 5 deaths is good so far. I actually think if I had skipped the 2nd dungeons and then gone back to it later with better gear I would have 0 deaths. After how easy the white wool dungeon was I figured the 2nd one would be easy too.

Also, in this map and 1 or 2 others the dungeons are numbered so you know how difficult they are likely to be.

Hearing about all this makes me want to play one map to see how I can fare in a super hostile map!

It would be awesome if you had 0 deaths because that would make it a perfect run, but stuff happens like that.

I forgot to ask, how was the enderforest in Legendary (or was it Nightmare Realm?)

Snowdeath : it was nightmare realm. It wasn't called that but I know what you mean. That area wasn't that bad. I generally just run around and torch things up going as fast as I possibly can and then leave. I probably torched up the entire place pretty much. The endermen didn't bother me at all.

Maps like these are both fun and frustrating. They are fun because they are a real challenge as opposed to the average survival map. The frustrating part is the map tries to kill you all over the place. Still, you should try one.

As for my updates - I got the lime, cyan and green wools. Oh, and I think I got the pink and brown before that. I died twice in the cyan wool area. So many creepers in that area.

That's all for now

Snowdeath : final update on Sunburn Islands. This happened over 3-4 different play sessions so don't be shocked about how much I accomplished.

I believe I got all but the red and black wools (and gold/diamond blocks) during my first run through. Most of these were straightforward wools to get and didn't take much effort. Up to this point I think all my deaths (or most) came in the Orange wool dungeon and since then I've not died (or died once or twice).

This was about to change. The red and black wools were not so easy to get to. I'll start with the red. First part was a decent into a 3x3 shaft that led really far down. About 20 blocks from the bottom it opens up to a pool of water. Near the exit of this shaft were charged creeper spawners (called boomers by Vechs since his have almost no timer on them) so they would spawn while you sat there trying to figure a way down and fill up the space underneath you. I figured a jump down and then a walk underwater was the best way to get away. Managed to get down without dying thankfully and got away from the entrance/exit area.

There was TONS of diamond down here. And I mean TONS!. A thousand diamond ore blocks at least. I collected a whole bunch and made new tools/armor with it (I was on basic iron after dying in the nether going for the black I think.... I'm probably doing this recap out of order). So, I now had full diamond armor/tools/sword to work with. This made wandering the cave much easier. I no longer worried about dying for the most part (except for the boomers which I came across once in a while). I lit up most of the cavern I was in until I found the entrance to the next area. This is where my first death happens. There is a fun box somewhere in the curve of the tunnel to where the "red wool" is. I didn't realize this because it didn't spawn very fast and I lit up a bit of it. I came to the open room with lava in the bottom and noticed 4 more fun boxes and monsters starting to drop on my head. One of them was a creeper which blew up the wall and my torch while I was trying to run away which allowed the fun box to spawn like crazy and resulting in my death. I re-geared and came back with a lava bucket and made short work of the fun box after that but I was pretty annoyed by that death.

The other 4 fun boxes were up in the air but not hard to deal with once I had managed to build my way up to one of them. After taking those out I found the fake red wool location (or old red wool location as the sign told me) and entered the next cavern. This is the location of my 2nd death of the red wool area. I started looking around and lighting things up when I came across a witch. Witches in super hostile are not regular witches. They are stupidly fast witches that never give you a moment of peace. I got poisoned (set on fire by a blaze I think) and then blasted with a damage potion. I honestly think I respawned and then closed minecraft for the night after that death. Thankfully I died in a good spot and managed to get my stuff and kill the witch without too much trouble. At this point I used a night vision potion to get a look at the area. I figured it would take me a really long time to fight through everything I could see so I made a decision to try to ender pearl my way to the fleecy box and back. Shockingly this worked better than I could have hoped and I got out of the area without having to fight my way through it. I honestly think this was a bit of a flaw to the area. Invisible ladders/blocks should have been in the way somewhere on that part.

Now on to the black wool (or back to it). I died in the courtyard of the nether castle thing my first time out (to witches no less). This area was so tedious it made me want to yell. I managed to clear most of the main areas I could find out in not too long once I dealt with the witches and blocked off the spiders. Still I couldn't find a way to progress. I must have run around that castle 3 times before finding the ladder down. I kept trying to get up instead but could never find a way. Once I realized I needed to go down the rest of the way wasn't too bad. Wither skeletons aren't too hard as long as you keep a few blocks above your head so I managed to get to the black wool without dying again (after the first courtyard attempt). I believe I got gold outside of the area to get into the portal as well so after that I had the 4 remaining blocks I needed.

I know I'm not doing this recap justice since it's been a few days since I finished the map but that's about how the last wools went. Those 2 are the more interesting ones anyway Oh, also forgot to bring this up but will since the image will show it - my skin works properly again! It updated in 1.8.8 on the server but in 1.2.5 it showed my old one. I imagine my old one was compatible with 1.2.5 but not my new one or something.

[edit] also, screenshots in 1.5.2 seem to be better resolution than 1.2.5. That picture is massive

12 - Inferno Mines - Started Aug 15th - So, I've started this map. I went through area C first (equipment). Managed to fight my way through lots of the early area only to get blown up by a creeper. Thankfully didn't lose much stuff and managed to collect a bunch of good gear and make my way down to the first intersection base. That's all I really had time for. I'll go back through the early area and pick up as much as I can find to get started. I still need a good source of food and more wood but I've got a fair bit of enchanted weapons and armor to use so I'm good there. Still bugged about that first death though. It shouldn't have happened

I also found the spider dorm thing and fought my way through that. It was pretty easy until I stumbled into the room with the fire spiders and died trying to run away. Thankfully my stuff spilled through the hallway and not in the room itself so getting it back was simple. I eventually beat back the spiders so that I now have an exp grinder set up. Love the drops too. Exp bottles, enchanted stone swords. Not amazing stuff but enough to keep me going for a long time

So, I'm now at 2 deaths and I have 1 white wool (did I not mention that?). I also have 9 double chests with various amounts of stuff in them. So far so good really.

12 - Inferno Mines - Started Aug 15th - Day 3 + 4 - Ventured into the lower mines. Couldn't believe how big the area was. Makes areas in Legendary not seem very big anymore. Probably used 7 or 8 full stacks or torches (plus some glowstone) to light the area up.

Came across a couple interesting things - 1. I found ZombieCleo's booper. Efficiency 100, unbreaking 100 diamond axe. This thing digs through anything in seconds. Doesn't pick it up (except normal stuff like wood) but it digs through those sandstone blocks like crazy. Want to try it on spawners but I'm guessing it won't work.

Other thing I found was the orange wool. Getting there was a challenge. Ran into my first Zisteau's and Thornguards of the map. Thankfully I figured out the track design and pushed a tnt cart into the spawners and blew them up. I did suffer my first death running into those guys though. Thankfully I was out of spawn range when I died so getting my stuff back was easy. The rest of my time was spent fighting to the orange wool. This was mostly just time consuming because of all the creeper spawners. Move in, torch, run away before anything blows up, kill creepers and repeat. Pretty simple just takes a long time. Thankful for the Unbreaking 10 stone sword I got from those fire spiders

So, I've now got 3 deaths and 2 wools and a TON more stuff (especially wood and coal). Things are going well so far. This map is putting all previous maps to shame on size though. Not even comparable at all.

01 - Sea of Flame 2 - Completed in 5 days
03 - Infernal Sky 2 - Completed (May 27th - June 6th)
04 - Kaizo Caverns - Completed in about a week (May 1st - May 8th)

09 - Sunburn Islands - Completed (Aug 8th - 11th)
10 - Spellbound Caves - Completed in a week (July 2nd - 8th).
11 - Lethamyr - completed June 15th
12 - Inferno Mines - Started Aug 15th - Day 5 - I'm posting these with "days" but they are more like the number of days I've played and not actually the number of days from when I started playing.

Anyway, I spent a few minutes running quickly through the Lower Mines picking up any random loot that I could find. I found some unguarded chests on the rail line that had some awesome stuff in it: unbreaking 3 books, stone picks, iron swords.... and other stuff which I don't remember all of. Once I had finished taking those items the 4 tall skeleton mob on a minecart got close enough to start shooting so I had to take off.

After carting all my new gear back I went into the Everforge. This area was pretty straightforward. Run around, light things up, run away. Lots of creeper spawners in the walls early on. Not too tough and didn't die to them. Then it was a matter of actually heading into the stone brick castle thing. Cleared the outside (in spite of witches) and while I was collecting stuff up I had 2 drop right around me. I tried to fight them off and run away (and actually got on the other side of the door that lead to the area) but one witch threw a damage potion as I closed the door that finished me off. So, death number 4 right there.

I got my stuff back and cleared up and down the castle thing without another death. Lots of skeletons and not much else. Got a mostly full diamond armor set (missing pants) and a diamond sword which is awesome. Once I had everything else cleared up I went to assault the fleecy box room. I know better than to simply walk through the front door though so I started moving around the outside opening the room up and putting torches in. I managed to find the fleecy box this way and could reach it without even going inside. I grabbed the magenta wool and was gone! I feel a little bad about that but after seeing the witches, blazes and creepers inside I knew I would die in my attempts.

11 - Lethamyr - completed June 15th
12 - Inferno Mines - Started Aug 15th - Day 6 - headed into Outer Darkness today. Pretty straightforward area. Lit things up and made my way through collecting the loot and taking it back to my chests at the entrance. Then I found the giant cavern that I had to climb up. The climb itself wasn't bad and I managed to do it without incident basically. I wound my way through the tunnel near the top until I saw the fleecy box. My first instinct was to go right for it and hope to grab the wool and run away but being that high up I knew that one wrong move meant falling to my death with no chance of survival. Feather falling XX wouldn't help me

So, I blocked the entrance and started to bridge across and that is when I noticed the Zistykin spawner. Those guys would have wrecked me in 5 seconds if I had just walked out into the open. I cleared up that spawner and got the light blue wool. Then I found my way to intersection 2.

Once getting to intersection 2 I built a rainline (using the existing one that was supposed to be used) to go directly from the intersection 1 base to the intersection 2 base. Once that was done (which took about an hour or so) I had to move all my stuff (which took another hour or so). After all of that I took a break.

Now I'm in Mellow Cavern and just picked up the Pink wool. Still looking around but that is probably all I'm going to get done for the day.

12 - Inferno Mines - Started Aug 15th - Day 6 cont. - So, I lied. I didn't stop after the pink wool. I went into Hane's Disgrace as well as the Lush Ruins.

Hane's Disgrace was pretty straightforward after finding my way into the wall. It took a few attempts to take out the super blaze spawner (wide area + 6-8 spawns at a time) but I managed it without dying.

I got all the way to the wool and then passed it not realizing it was there. Too many cobwebs to see it at first. I ended up dying on my first attempt to get to the wool. Too many spiders to deal with. Even with a regen potion going I still died.

I managed to get it on the second try though which I'm okay with. Considering the number of spiders I was dealing with this wasn't too bad. So, that was death number 5 but I got the lime wool.

After that I went to the Lush Ruins. All I've done so far is wander around and accomplish nothing. I've probably broken 100+ spawners so far and I don't think I've covered even 10% of the top level in torches. I could spend a week in this area and still find new things to clear out. I've made some good progress but I don't want to get bogged down in here forever. I'll probably try and actually get the wool or find intersection 3 today.

11 - Lethamyr - completed June 15th
12 - Inferno Mines - Started Aug 15th - Day 7 - I have done a LOT since I posted last. Yesterday I had a lot of time to play so I got a lot done.

I spent a long time wandering around the Lush Ruins and died 4 times I think (lost all my stuff too). Not a big deal cause I was using leather armor for the most part and was just trying to light things up and take out spawners. I probably took out 200-300 spawners while wandering around. I checked the wiki about the Inferno Mines and found out that there are almost 7000 spawners in the Lush Ruins alone. I gave up wandering around and focused on finding the wool instead. I collected some ender pearls from chests while on my way (I always grab those no matter what because they help me survive a lot of stuff) and found the fleecy box. I ender pearled to and from the box no problem and got away with the yellow wool. After that I was done with that area (so, 9 deaths total now).

Now I wanted to find my way to intersection 3. If I had known how long it would take I likely would have done a better job lighting my way and making a trip back safer. I started searching "to the right" for intersection 3 as the signs told me. I got near the exit of the Lush Ruins and got taken out by 2 witches (death 10). I did manage to get my stuff back and made my way through the tunnel to the next area. I got past the ghast in a box and creeper rooms without any deaths and got to Flame Warp. I remember the area vividly because of Planar Warp from Kaizo Caverns I believe. This one was much shorter though. I found the gray wool (I think) almost right away (did another ender pearl dash in and out) and took it back to the ender chest that I had found just outside of the Flame Warp.

Now I made my way through the Flame Warp up and up and up and up to the tunnel to intersection 3. Intersection 3 didn't provide any way back. I only had another mini base to set up in. I checked on the wiki which area led on to something else (Wilhelm Cliffs) so I went in that direction. This area was quite easy until I ran into the double Zistykin spawners. I panicked a bit but managed to survive the initial attack. I avoided them by climbing up the ladders rather than take them on.

Then I ran into the double creeper spider jockey at the top of the ladder which nearly killed me. I managed to take that out and found the purple wool just past it. I wandered around that area trying to find my way out and ended up falling into the lava. I died trying to jump back into the fleecy box and lost some of my stuff. Not the wool or enchanting table I had just found which was good (death 11). I got back to that area and picked up what was left and found the way out in the roof. Then I made my way to the Victory Monument.

I then put 9 wools onto the monument. I'm about half done so far (in about a week) but I have the toughest stuff left to do. With how tough these areas have been so far I see myself dying even more. Doing better than Nightmare Realm though. That place killed me ALL the time.

Today is likely going to involve watching a movie and moving my extra gear from intersection 2 over to the victory monument. I see myself working from there going forward.
