Sephiroth was definitely a awesome character. He should totally appear in the next ff game.

That's a tough one... I have several, so I'll post my favorites from each game!

FF4: Cecil, Kain, Edge

FF5: While he didn't stand out here, Dissidia made Bartz into a really likable goofy character. He grew on me thanks to it.

FF6: Terra (My FAVORITE FF character), Locke's really cool, Sabin suplexed a train (As we know, lol), and Kefka's a great villain, actually managing to become a god and destroy the world.

FF7 compilation: Zack was a really good character, his fate traumatized my sis, Cloud was awesome before he became mopey, and Aerith.

FF9: Zidane doesn't need a reason to help people, Vivi's really sweet, awesome, and adorable, and I thought Quina was really funny!

FFX: Why all the Tidus hate??! I think he's a really cool guy, I like his athletic fighting style, and I never had a problem with his voice! Yuna was admirable, wanting to save the world while knowing it'd cost her her life, and auron's freakin HARDCORE!!!!! ("Some can't WAIT to die!")

Cecil is really the only one I found interesting. The game is really about him, from his low point as a Dark Knight to his redemption as a Paladin, to his fighting his own brother and finally winning over the forces of evil. Even though Final Fantasy II had a plot, I found none of the characters to be interesting, and I can not identify A favorite character in Final Fantasy VI.

For the CD Final Fantasys, I think I only like Auron. He is a bad ass, first, and his voice of reason make him perfect as a "guardian angel"

Right now my favorites are a tossup between Tidus and Wakka. I like Tidus because of his age and coolness, and I like Wakka because of his personality and his accent.

Since we're listing a favorite from each game we've played...

6 - Locke
7 - Vincent
8 - Squall
9 - Zidane
10 - Auron
13 - Lightning

Those were all by far my favorite characters for each game. I generally like the calm and composed / thief and-or carefree type, as they relate to me the most.

My list is only from the games I have played, and I haven't played too many.
FF1 - White Mage. Couldn't get through the game without it, even though it technically isn't a character, but a class.
FF4 - Cecil. Honestly, his story is the best out of the Nintendo era Final Fantasy games, and I would really love to see him in Smash Bros, with both a Dark Knight and Paladin move set. His story of fighting his brother and going through to becoming a pure paladin really felt like a good story, especially for a 16 Bit platform that was limited in capabilities and couldn't have really extensive games.
FF6 - Sabin and Kefka. If you suplex a train, you will have my love for eternity. I love pro wrestling, and anyone would be impressed to see a suplexed train sitting behind you. Kefka is also one of my favorite villains of all time, next to Zanza of Xenoblade Chronicles, as he really truly is insane, and it was a believable insane, and wasn't forced upon the character.
FF7 - Cloud. As being the only character in Final Fantasy history to make it into Smash Bros, he really does deserve it. He has a great set of abilities, and he is a cool character until he becomes, as D1998 put it, mopey.
FF13 - Lightning. I have only played a little bit of Final Fantasy 13, but her character seems very tough but caring, which is something that really needs to be in a female protagonist to make her believable, but she still needs her moments of weakness, which I am sure I will see in the later parts of the game. (Please don't spoil me.)

Really hope that Final Fantasy 15 puts in the work for character development, as it apparently is the size of Xenoblade Chronicles, and that game had an immense amount of quests and heart to hearts that really made me feel invested in the main characters, as well as some side characters that had chains of quests.

To name a few, Zack from Crisis Core was a good character. He was one of the few that actually had a fairly developed personality and wasn't forced.

I don't think they ever actually properly explained Vincent because, even after playing both Final Fantasy VII and Dirge of Cerberus, I didn't get much of an explanation of why he does what he does. A well written character should have a consistent personality traits, certain subtle quirks and a motive. Unless I just missed something, he's just kinduh there, doing things.

Ashe, in my opinion, is a good character. She has a certain strength about her that isn't forced like other female protagonists in gaming, and the strength that's there isn't at the expense of femininity. Those are the ones that come to mind, anyway. I haven't played the series extensively, relative to the amount of games there are.

I've always been partial to Vincent Valentine, and Vivi.

Vincent feels like hes got a lot going on in his head, he has his own game, and his Limit us so glass Canon I love it.
And Vivi just had a really cute/sad storyline, plus he's a Black Mage how couldn't I love him? Plus Black Mage is in Super Smash Flash 2.
