What feature could I add to the Retro Game Room or what could I change about it that would make it even better? (besides adding new systems and games).

I'll throw in an idea that someone else mentioned but I liked it....

being able to sort in more than 1 way. I'd love to sort by views and rating.... so I could get the highest rated and most played games. Or whatever other combination I could think of.

Basically a better search/sort ability. More options with searching/sorting.

You can combine sorting with other things but sorting by both views and rating at the same time just wouldn't work unless you know of a way it would.

A feature I plan to implement next week is not only making it so you can search by all the systems (it's currently not showing all systems), but to make it so you can check which systems to search (with check boxes).

Another feature I plan to implement is so you can search by number of players, exact genre, developer, publisher, etc. You can currently do that but there's no user friendly page that lets you do it, basically right now the only way to do it is to go into a game, Super Mario Bros for example, and click on the developers name and it'll list all games by that developer.

it works in memberlist.php

you can sort by at least 2 things in there.... maybe even 3. You can sort by local mod, gender, and name all at the same time.

https://www.vizzed.com/vizzedboard/memberlist.php?sort=name&pow=5&sex=m

like that!

I have no idea how you code that.... but if it works in memberlist.php then I don't see why you couldn't jump in there and steal from that

For that Play Games Online section that you can see at the top, would you mind adding Apple II and TurbiGraphix also? It's a pain getting to them.

Geeogree: Oh I know, and it works that way in the Retro Game Room. It's not possible to sort by rating and views at the same time, those 2 things are filters that determine the order by which the results are being displayed.
You can do something like this for example:
Sort by Rating, Display Only NES, Display only games starting with letter F, Display games in the RPG category

Note that there is a difference between just order and filter (both a type of sorting). Order is the order things are displayed and a filter determines what is being displayed. You can have unlimited filters but only possible to have 1 way of ordering and sorting by views, rating and release date are all types or ordering.

xfighter: Yeap, just read my 1st response to geeogree for more info.

If anyone thinks the prices of the games are to high, I am thinking about cutting their prices by 33 - 50%. I want people to be able to play all the games they want to play but at the same time I don't want people to abuse it and play hundreds of games, back to back, a few seconds per a game and drain the servers bandwidth (as to why they cost a little Viz in the first place).

A child block is interesting however most the people who are playing are children Some games however have mature content someone reported a pokemon game to me which has cussing and sex refrences in it so a filter would be a good idea.

well, a child block is a good idea in theory.... but it's so easy to register here and pick any age you want that we'll have a flood of 18+ members the moment it's put in.

I don't imagine it will accomplish a whole lot personally.

Most people are actually telling the truth about their age, I've got it to the point where they are almost forced to but maybe 10% are still not. Anyways, I do plan to make it so that a young kid wouldn't be able to play a game that has an ESRB rating of M, but I'll let teenagers play them, just not a kid 12 and younger because there are a few games out there that kids really shouldn't play, in fact, I think there's a couple games in the RGR that may have nudity.

fair enough. I guess not all kids that age would realize all the ways around the restriction.

Exactly, plus most of them aren't going to be able to figure out the math in order to lie about it anyway or they'd probably just be to lazy to figure it out.

Also, most people don't have a reason to lie and as long as they don't know the restrictions of being under 13, they'll continue to say they're under 13. Additionally, I don't want to be reliable in any way of younger kids seeing or playing what they shouldn't experience.

Easy way around that. You know the "Terms of Use" thing that people should read on signing up (by the way, that should really be on the same page as the "I agree" button)?
Just add to that something like "By joining I understand that there may be images or games on this site that are unsuitable for persons under a certain age and cannot hold the site responsible".
Then it's their parents faults for leaving them unsupervised online

i think to improve the retro game room which is awesome by the way but to truly improve you need to add the neo geo system.also include the games that was made for that system some of those games i gaurantee you that other members would love to play as well.or you can add ps1 or the dreamcast they all had awesome games for them like ps1 had castlevania symphony of the night and the dreamcast had berseker guts rage. idk how other people think but these could spruce up the retro game room a little jus a little cuz like i said the retro game room is awesome.

Uhh, correct me if I'm wrong, staff members, but sorry NeoOmega, I don't think PSx or DC are possible, due to their games being in a different format than the others.

bignatealpha: It's more due to their immense size (we would need a server for psx only with alot of bandwidth. re: expensive) and that CD/DVD based systems need alot more to run then a cart based system.
But you are close enough.

how about a member spotlight, every month a different member would be featured in an article to give players a heads up about that persons achievements. it would give players a whats what of certain individuals who are actually particapting in the forum and giving good ideas to actually improve this site.it would include a list of what ideas this person gave what games hes currently playing and what projects if any that hes working on.that way whos ever on the spotlight it would give other players that incentive that intionative to be active, they will strive to be in the spotlight and little by little people would get more creative with there ideals.idk but i think it might work.

NeoOmega: I kinda like this idea though it would be a little tricky figuring out which member deserves it the most each month. Maybe if there was a way to make it specifically based on something or maybe it could be a site wide thing for both the RGR and the forum itself. But if it was specifically based on something, that way we could automate it to decrease work that I have to do. For example, show who received the most trust points a specific week or who go the most thumbs up, etc.

How about a medal rewards system? Say when a user reaches a total of 1 hour gameplay in the RGR he/she gets a medal on his/her profile and different medals for longer periods of total gameplay. Maybe individual medals like a mario medal if they spend a certain ammount of time playing a mario game (same for pokemon, FF etc..)

Just a thought.

gtwalq: I actually had a similar idea where I'd award medals when a user beats a game and for proof of beating a game, they'd have to take a screenshot with the built in snapshop capture in the emulators. But those are good idea's too, would add to the funness of the RGR.

IT COULD BE BASED ON WHATEVER YOU THINK IS RIGHT.OR YOU CAN MIX IT UP EVERY MONTH 1 MONTH CAN BE WHO POST THE MOST POLLS, ANOTHER MONTH WHO HAS THE MOST TRUST POINTS ANOTHER COULD BE MOST REPLYS TO A THREAD OR POLL, WHO PLAY THE MOST GAMES, HOW MANY HOURS WERE LOGGED IN, DIFFERENT STUFF LIKE THAT FOR EACH MONTH, AND YOU CAN DO LIKE THIS GUY SAID, UM GTWALG SAID TO IMPLEMENT A MEDAL SYSTEM, BUT I THINK IT SHOULD BE LIKE THE ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED THING THAT THE PS3 AND XBOX 360 DO.OR SIMPLY THE SPOTLIGHT COULD BE A NUMBER OF THINGS A QUOTA EACH MONTH THAT A MEMBER HAS TO MEET OR GET CLOSE TO IN ORDER TO BE PLACED IN THE SPOTLIGHT.

Please, no achievement system like the PS3 / 360.
It's just dumb to award someone for playing a game for x amount of time (no offense meant to anyone).
I like the one for awards if the person finishes the game, that at least is something of an achievement.

That's a good idea, the finishing a game one, I mean. The only problem is not all the emulators can take screenshots, so you could only get screen-shots for select games.

bignate: All the emulators supported in the RGR Plugin do support screenshots. Also if a user wants to go for a run to beat the game, they'd probably have to play the emulator with stripped functionality (like no way of cheating, no game shark or game genie support, etc).

But yeah, awarding someone for playing a game for a certain amount of hours is necessary but for an actual achievement would be sweet. And I do personally love the PS3 / 360 achievement systems, it gives you an incentive to do all you can in those games or to beat them and you have proof of your achievements.

Oh, I never realized that. I know that not all the Java ones said they could, and I didn't notice N64 and GBA could... guess I missed that.

For both of those emulators, we haven't added server side screenshot support, in fact, we haven't even made it public as to which keys are responsible for doing it, not even sure if it works yet but should in version 1.

The the 2 java emulators that support it are NESCafe and VizzedAEPgb.

Which means I can't get an award when I finish Crystal... Oh, well. I do believe I have some games in the VizzedAEPgbemu, and all my NES games are in NEScafe, so I'm good.

Sorry, armydude, Gamecube won't be possible. Disc-based consoles would require whole new servers, they're just too big, as DarkHyren put it:
It's more due to their immense size (we would need a server for psx only with alot of bandwidth. re: expensive) and that CD/DVD based systems need alot more to run then a cart based system.
.
As for DS, first off, it really doesn't fit with the Retro game room, and secondly, there aren't any DS emulators that we would be able to use yet. We would have to wait until one came out.

Exactly what bignatealpha said and to add to that, DS would be more illegal since they are still making the games.

Nate: in that case (Retro) GBA wouldn't fit either, right? The NGC was just a suggestion. (Cough Mario sinshine cough)

Dave: That would make the GYR emulator a little more illegal as well, correct.

I'm not sure if this is possible but it would be cool if some certain games had a stat tracker for your profile. For Doubutsu no Mori (Animal Crossing in Japan) it would show a screenshot or something of your character on your profile. Just a thought, really, but if that's not possible, hour tracking would be neat, but not for achievements.

Actually, GYR is legal because it includes a disclaimer notifying you of when it is legal to download the files. And yes, the GBA does fit, because almost no GBA games are being sold outside of stores like GameStop, and no new ones are being made.

And also GBA started in 2002 so some of the early games are old enough to be considered retro. On top of that, most of the GBA games have a retro feel to them and a lot or remakes, sequels and ports to retro games.

Speaking as a noob, I want to know if we can use gameshark, action replay, and game genie codes for the games. If not, I suggest adding a sort of cheat link. It would go this way:

1. You click the link.
2. Once your redirected to the link, you are given an option of using a certain set of codes, such as the mega jump for the Zelda and Mario games, or the infinite money and health for the Pokemon and Final Fantasy games.
3. You chose the set of cheats you want, no more than 6, and choose the game you want to play.
4. Once you know which game you want to play and which codes to use for it, you save the codes for the game, and proceed to awesome cheating delight!
Optional 5. You know how you save and change controls of some games when you double click the screen? Have an option there for a quick turn-on and turn-off of the cheats you have selected for that game, and call it "Cheat On/Off".

Touch'e. But still, pretty harsh. I'm not really a noob, I kick butt at the actual games themselves, I just accept being one Community wise, such as forums and updates.

I don't know if you could program this, but could you add a full screen game option, like near the window and exit using(maybe)the Esc key like the youtube player, etc.

is it possible, or would it be to set up some system of multiplayer in GBA? Like so you could trade pokemon with someone else on the site who is playing another version. I was just wondering if something like this would be too expensive.....

The problem I really see is, people are using the in game chat box asking questions and are not getting answered, so I was wondering if there was a way to put a unified chat box on all the games[I do understand that would be VERY time consuming] so that they could get support quicker.

Thats not a bad idea if I do say myself. Then have a PM go into the RGR Staff Inbox when theres a new post maybe. But then again thats what this forum is for basically, to help those in need within the RGR. Still a good idea though. *Two Thumbs Up*
