I have gone through quite a bit of threads and several of them have closed, so I can't add another post to it. This is unfortunate because some of these threads were actually pretty interesting. My question is why are they kept in the regular thread genres instead of being moved to the trash or treasure. Even though the threads are interesting it doesn't make sense to keep it in the regular thread stuff since the capability to post more threads becomes unavailable once closed.

The trash can is generally for bad threads but also dead threads get thrown in there too. It is not a requirement to send the threads to the trash.

JayJaded : That makes sense, but it makes so much more sense that when threads are closed they are taken down. It gets frustrating when trying to go through and reply to threads on something that is interesting to me only to find out that I can't post anything because it has been closed.

I'm not meaning to sound like I am whining or complaining, I am merely trying to give my opinion. I'm hoping will see this and maybe figure out a better system where threads that have been closed for over a month get removed from the main boards to lessen the amount of posts in each board. To me it would seem that decreasing closed threads that occupy the boards would increase the number of replies on other threads. The only thing that I see that could come out of leaving closed threads on the main boards is that once they are seen other people may want to create a similar thread, thus creating more posts. That being said I would think that's where the treasure and trash boards come into play.

I believe there already is an automated system but it does it after 3 months or so. and there are like 50 pages of threads in each forum. lol, thatd be a lot of moving. and I know you're not whining I'm just giving my opinion or explanation on it. This is a good idea though.
In order to tell the difference between open and closed threads is the tag to the left of the thread title I believe it says "Off"

JayJaded : I've seen some posts from around two years ago still up, but closed. I wouldn't doubt that there is a automated program that closes thread after a certain amount of time of non-use, but it seems like it's not working as well as it should. Also, that would make sense that the closed threads would have off on the side. Thanks for pointing that out.

I don't know the whole mechanics behind the automated system. It all seems like magic to me X_X

The site runs smooth as it is. But I do wonder why threads are closed, and just left in the forum. I am going to assume it is for future reference if need be.

thing1 : I didn't mean to imply that the site doesn't run smoothly. What I was trying to say is that it would make searching through threads to post on a lot easier rather than searching through everything to find one. This was also before I was enlightened by a fellow member (JayJaded) that the threads that have been closed have the word off next to them. I also notice upon further browsing that some threads are closed for the time being because of the Tour de Vizzed competition that is currently going. These are mostly in the sub-forums that are game based, such as the hangman games in the Movies and TV Shows forums.

wolf742 : Elimination threads are also closed.

I think that there should be a search feature for threads. That would be pretty cool.

thing1 : That is a great idea, but there is such widespread topics that it would still be difficult to find what you are looking for I would think. That being said I don't have any experience in creating or running a search feature, so I could be wrong. There are so many times where I have had decent ideas, but didn't have the experience or qualifications needed to execute said ideas. To be clear, I am not talking about the idea of having a search bar on the site because that was clearly yours. Your idea just got me on the thought process.

JayJaded : It is automated... It's the same as when you summon mods. Some mods, like vanelan keep up with the threads and close them after said 30 days of no posts. Others leave the threads there, because there have been interesting things.

wolf742, (Not summoning you, it's your thread.) The reason some are still up but not gone is because it gives some interesting thing that new users should see. For instance, in every forum, the Rules thread is closed. But, EVERYONE needs to read it. So, it's stickied and closed. It's closed because users shouldn't post in it.

Others are closed for only a limited amount of time. Like thing1 mentioned, ones like the Elimination threads are always closed during the TdV, but they'll be up right after it's over.

darthyoda : I do understand keeping some of the closed threads in the forums to spark the interest of others, and maybe even give people more ideas for new threads. I've learned a lot about the Vizzed forums since posting this thread. I didn't understand what summoning meant/was until today, and I also figured out what to look for when going through threads. As long as the thread doesn't say off it is available to post in.

Some questions I have about summoning are when is it appropriate to do so; and why, in some threads, is it required if you want to post in it?

This is something that is pretty common for forums. It's to leave up some of these threads for history/reference. If we wish in the future, we can re-open them. Ones that aren't worthy of this get trashed.

The site automatically closes threads that haven't seen activity for a certain amount of time. This is done to de-clutter the active threads in the forum.

Also there are times when a thread is no longer relevant so moderators like myself, close them.

To me it's pretty clear on which threads are open and which are closed, so this kinda seems like a non-issue.

Jordanv78 : Whenever I wrote this thread I wasn't yet aware of the meaning of the words on the very left side of the thread names. Through this thread I was able to learn that if a thread says off then it is closed, so it became easier to go through the threads. It also makes sense now that some threads that have been close are left on the list for helping others with ideas for their own threads. This is my first time participating in any type of forums, nor have I played games through emulators. This has been a learning process, but I am starting to get the hang of it, especially because of the information that was posted on this thread.
