Singelli: Thought I would give you a summon since I used to post in your Fitness thread consistently, and you were interested in updates pertaining to my back.

I actually tried posting this yesterday, but I lost it all due to this stupid laptop going back after about 250 words, so let's try this again.

Guys, I'm actually getting active, and I'm actually excited about it.
I'm playing soccer.

That's right. You read that correctly: I'm playing soccer.

I got bored at work earlier at work on the Thursday midnight to 8 AM shift. I was looking at a YouTube video, and somehow, it reminded me of Backyard Soccer, a game I used to play on the computer. Well, it got me thinking, so I decided to look up indoor soccer arenas in the area, if there even were any, because my favorite part of that game was always the indoor tournament, because the ball couldn't go out of bounds. Low and behold, I found a place that was within a short driving distance from where I live. They have open sessions on Tuesday and Thursday at noon for seven dollars. Sure, I work Thursday from midnight to 8, but I made it work last week. I'm off on Tuesday, so that's not a problem. And I found out the at group that plays there on Thursday plays for free at an outdoor field that is a third of the drive from my house that it is to the arena on Tuesday and Friday at noon, FOR FREE!
So, when I went on Thursday, I pushed myself, to see what my limit was. I played hard for 20 minutes before I rolled my knee, and then had to go and throw up. Then, I was invited to the Friday crew, so I went. I played mostly defense, and I learned A CRAP TON about the game. I had a blast.
After the Thursday session, I asked the guy running the place what he thought. He said he was watching me, and that I did fine for a first timer who knew nothing about the game besides that basics that everybody knows. He told me a I needed new shoes though, since the jogging shoes I had were going to cause issues, especially with my bad knees. So, I went out to this soccer store that is right by the GameStop not 5 minutes from my apartment, and I bought the shoes. I also bought some comfortable shin guards, some bands to keep them in place for extra insurance, and some socks, so I could not only look the part, but be safe. And then I bought a ball yesterday, too.

The thing that really gets me here is that I am enjoying it so much, and that fact that I went out and spent $150 on something I had only done once at the time.
And I am really looking forward to tomorrow's session. One of the leaders ( I am assuming he is a leader ) who is younger invited me to come an hour early to give me some lessons. That meant the world to me that this guy is willing to go out of his way to help me out.

But the kicker to this whole thing? I can do it with my disabilities, and do it comfortably at that. I have back issues, and I have knee issues. I can do this, and not be in complete pain all the time, while
still getting a good workout in.

This is awesome guys. I have finally found something that is fun to me, that I enjoy doing.

That's awesome! Be grateful that you found that arena and that group as well. Hopefully you'll keep having fun playing soccer, and it's fantastic to hear you found something fun you enjoy doing!

Also, it's amazing to hear that you can still do it with your disabilities,
comfortably!

PacmanandMariofan : Yeah, it's nice. I mean, I'm still in pain when I play, but it's like I don't notice it, so I can play comfortably.

And we don't keep score, either. We just play to have fun. But today, I scored my first goal. It was a quick tap off of a pass, so it was nice. Everybody came over and congratulated me, seeing as how it was only my 3rd time playing with them, and the 2nd time playing outside.

You know you're really into the game when it's like you don't notice your pain.

It's better to play to have fun, in my opinion, so I'm glad you all are doing that! Congrats on scoring your first goal.

It looks like you are being active with something you actually like. That's the way to do it! If you force your self, say, to run on a treadmill and you don't like it you will simply abandon.

I first started getting active by biking and exploring around town. There was so much I had never seen before! Plus, it helped me lose quite a bit of weight.

Singelli : Fail summon XD

Anyways, its good to hear you exercising again Caleb. I'm not sure about all that stuff with the kicking the ball around...I keep forgetting the name of that sport *looks at original post*...ah yes, soccer. I suppose if kicking a ball around all day gives you enough exercise, then so be it! I remember your post on FB that said something like "I was on the Internet and found a local soccer league. I think I'll get a workout and play some soccer." Well, that wasn't verbatim but it was similar to something like that. Just take it easy on that knee of yours XD

It's good to hear when someone's getting active, and it's also nice when that person's having fun with it. I'm glad to hear that you've found an activity that you enjoy.

thing1 : Congratulations thing1! and congrats on your first goal! It's great you've found something you enjoy doing. I really like reading people's stories about how they're striving to make changes and improvements in their life. I fully support people who do and wish them all the best

It's great that you were able to fit it in your work schedule. Life can get pretty busy, but that shouldn't stop you from having fun! I can relate, At first I had a bit of difficulty balancing work, college and gym. But hey, I was able to do it and I was able to work a schedule around my routine. I have a friend who has some joint problems and I invited her to go to the gym with me. At first she struggled but now she's stronger. I hope like her, over time, you playing soccer will help you recover from your disabilities and make you stronger. But don't strain yourself too much though, you don't want to burn out. So here's me giving you a well deserved high-five for starting to get active. *high fives* You do what you do best and keep it up!

It's great to hear you're getting fit, thing!

Yeah, fitting in your own health into a busy schedule is rough. I have quite a bit of experience with that. And it can only help with your disabilities.

Local Mods : Can you please close? This thread is no longer that relevant.

I'm still playing soccer, but not that much due to knee issues, for those that care, though.
