On October 15, 1994, Sonic Triple Trouble was released in North America on the game gear. It was the sequel to Sonic Chaos. Out of all of Sonic's 8 bit adventures, Sonic Triple Trouble is without a doubt the best one. It's also one of the best game gear games ever made. Why do I say this? Well I'll explain why by making this review.

Graphics: 9/10 The graphics in Sonic Triple Trouble are superb. There aren't very many games on the Game Gear that are as visually appealing as this game. The character sprites are some of the best looking you'll find on an 8 bit system. Also I have to say the scenery looks gorgeous as well. I did have one major problem with the game though, and that's the fact that sometimes when you're in the middle of intense combat, the game sometimes slows down. If it weren't for the slowdown, I would've given the graphics a 10, but because of this problem, I have to give this category a 9.

Sound: 9/10 I know I've said this plenty of times before, but the Sonic series has some of the best soundtracks you'll hear in video games. Somehow, this game's soundtrack is almost as good as some of the genesis games. Some of the most notable music in this game are Sunset Park Act 3, the boss theme, and Nack's theme. However, there is one theme in this game that was terrible, and that was Metal Sonic's theme. I don't know what was going on in the mind of the guy who made that theme... Fortunately though, that was the only bad music in the game. Despite how bad Metal Sonic's theme is, Sonic Triple Trouble still proves that even a game gear game can have a killer soundtrack. For that reason I'm giving the sound a 9.

Addictiveness: 10/10 Sonic Triple Trouble offers some of the most addicting gameplay you'll find in a Game Gear game. There's a wonderful variety of levels and gameplay. You'll be riding in mine carts, exploring underwater using Tails' submarine, collect rings in a plane, and you'll even fight a train. Also the game has plenty of replay value since you can play as either Sonic or Tails. With all this variety of gameplay, Sonic Triple Trouble is easily one of the funnest games ever made for the Game Gear. For these reasons, I'm giving the addictiveness a 10.

Story: 7/10 In Sonic Triple Trouble, Dr. Robotnik has managed to find all the Chaos Emeralds. Unfortunately for him, an accident in the testing phase of his new ultimate weapon causes the chaos emeralds to scatter. He got back the yellow emerald, but could not find the others. Sonic and Tails are trying to find and retrieve them, so Robotnik tricks Knuckles into believing that Sonic and Tails are trying to steal the emeralds. If dealing with Robotnik and Knuckles wasn't hard enough, there's a treasure hunter named Nack the Weasel who found the remaining emeralds and he wants to make money off of them. Now Sonic and Tails must retrieve all the emeralds from Nack and defeat Dr. Robotnik and Knuckles the Echidna. This is a pretty decent plot for an 8 bit platforming game. For that reason I'm giving the story a 7.

Depth: 8/10 For a game gear game, Sonic Triple Trouble offers plenty of depth. There's 6 zones with 3 acts in them, there's plenty of boss battles, and there's some special stages as well. Also because of the fact that you can play as Sonic or Tails, you can play the game again as the character you didn't play as in your first playthrough. Because of how much depth this game has for a Game Gear game, I'm giving this category an 8.

Difficulty: 2/10 Compared to a lot of the other classic Sonic games, Sonic Triple Trouble is a fairly easy game to beat. There were only a few stages in the whole game that were in any way challenging. A lot of the levels can be beaten in one try, and the boss battles aren't super difficult either. If you're looking for a super hard Sonic game, then you should probably look somewhere else. Because the game is very easy, I'm giving the difficulty a 2.

Overall Score: 9/10
Sonic Triple Trouble is one of the best Game Gear titles ever made. It has a mostly wonderful soundtrack, great graphics for it's time, and addicting gameplay. However, the game suffers from a lack of difficulty and occasional slowdowns. Overall though, Sonic Triple Trouble is a great game for platforming fans, Sonic fans, and newcomers who want to see what a great Sonic game is like. Because of how great this game is, I'm giving the overall score for this game a 9.

Congratulations on this superb review! It's much better than your previous two (not that they were "bad") with your more extensive use of details.

I guess it's always better to talk about what you like than what you hate. For example, my Final Fantasy IX review was short because I couldn't remember much, other than it was simply terrible.

janus : I'm glad that you liked this particular review. I do agree to a certain extent that it's better to talk about games we like, rather than talk about the games we hate because there will always be people who like a certain game, and no matter how well you make your review for that game, they'll still not like that review. Like your Final Fantasy IX review, or my Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric review for example.

This is a really nice review! Coming from someone who (generally) hates Sonic games, when a review actually makes me want to give a game a try, I think there is some level of success to be had. You've got it.

Once whatever is going on with game downloads not working is resolved, I may just hop over and try this one out. I've never actually played a Game Gear game, so this will be a double-first experience. Good job on you for getting an uninterested party interested!

Yunimori : wow thanks a lot! I would've never expected that I'd be able to convince someone who's not a fan of Sonic games to try one out by making this review.

gamerforlifeforever2: You are most welcome! I just never have been all that hype about Sonic, dunno why. Something about the games always turned me off of attempting them, but you've given me enough curiosity to at least want to try this one. That's something. Who knows, I may wind up adding this to the list I have of 'Sonic games I can actually stand', which currently has exactly one entry. XD
