Hello everyone, guess what? It's March and it's not Imperial ha ha *feels ashamed of that terrible joke* Sorry, I'm just excited because it means new game guide, brought to you by your host Laian. So this month, we go back to the PC system with a remake of an old point and click game. Some people here know this game. I personally know this game and used to play it in the past, before giving up since I couldn't make any damn progress. Yeah, I didn't have the same patience and extraordinary spirit of puzzle solving that I now have. Anyway, the remake has the same story, don't worry. You're on the island of Myst and you have to do the same exact things like in the original game. Although, it includes a bonus level unlockable at the end of the game, a new game mode and some kind of little Q&A that can help you to solve the puzzles. The only way to make it appear is pressing «esc» then click on the question mark icon at the bottom. As for the new game mode, it's called «Free roam», which allows you to explore and move freely. To the people who don't know this game, the original Myst didn't have that option obviously. The only way to move on and explore the island was with the cursor of your mouse. No arrows, just the mouse. If you are not used to it, I suggest you to play with the «Free roam» option. It won't affect the story at all. Though, it helps if you want to get some Steam achievements. I'll make a bonus part for the bonus area at the end of the walkthrough, as usual. But let's see that in due time, ok? It would be great if this game guide starts once and for all, right? Well then, enough bla bla and let's go! To Myst, woohoo!

WELCOME TO THE ISLAND OF MYST

After the introduction and the title screen, you will face a book. Touch it and click on the picture to be teleported to a whole new world. No, I'm not going to sing the song. Welcome to the island of Myst, folks. This is the main place of the adventure. To your right, you'll see a sunken shipwreck. More of that later. To your left, there's a metallic door that you can open. It leads to a holographic device and a panel. For starters, let's move on and explore the island. You can see several buildings and spots as you're exploring. And levers. Don't touch them at the moment. Read the message written by a person named Atrus nearby the planetarium and go back to the metallic door. Open it and enter «08», which is the code mentioned by the message and the number of switches present on this island. You'll see Atrus. Not the real Atrus, it's just a recorded message. Besides what he told about his sons, you have to keep in mind what he says about the tower: it's the only way to open the doors to the other worlds. Yes, there's more. Now, flip all the switches (except for the one at the clock tower that you can't reach for now) and go to the library, located next to the planetarium. Atrus was right: most of the books are burnt. Look around to see a map of the island, two paintings, a fireplace and two colored books. The fireplace is not useful at the moment, as for the world map... let's not interact with it. Let's just take one of the pages and use it to the specific book. Open the book to hear one of Atrus' sons talking to you. These books, as you can tell, are their prisons. They also are the leitmotiv of the game. In each world you will visit, there's a blue page and a red page that you must bring back to the specific book. You can either choose to take only the blue pages and ignore the red pages (and vice versa) or take both. There's a restriction though: you can only bring back to the library one page at the time so you'll have to go back to the other world and get the other page if you decide to find all the pages. There is one more thing to know about the blue book and the red book but... You know what? I think it's enough information for now so let's carry on

Now, check the world map and click on the round to the right. It's the tower and you probably noticed that, at some points, the line turns red. It's actually the way to locate the other worlds. However, there's another thing to do if you want to unlock theses worlds. You need to solve a puzzle. At the top of the tower, you'll find a clue. In order to go there, touch the painting to the left side of the bookshelf and go through the passageway. Open the door, drop in the elevator, close the door and press the button to go up. In front of you, you'll see where the line stopped. Behind you, there's the hint. You can visit any world you want first. The following part will be the mechanical age since it's the first place I explored while making this game guide but you can do another world if you choose so. Just refer to the specific part. Go back to the library and touch the other painting to go outside.

THE MECHANICAL AGE

This is where the clock tower goes on stage. The sign at the top of the tower says «2:40» and «2, 2, 1». Keep in mind these two hints and go to the clock tower. You can see two valves. The big one is for the minutes and the little one for the hours. Turn the valves so the clock shows «2:40» and press the button. A bridge made of cogs will appear, allowing you to access the clocktower and flip the switch. Enter the clock tower to solve another puzzle. This one is tricky. The cogs have some numbers written on it from 1 to 3. You need to use the switches to write the second code you found earlier in the tower. If you flip the switch to the left, the middle and bottom cogs will rotate. If you flip the switch to the right, the top and the middle cogs will rotate. Now, I have to tell you that this puzzle is tricky for one reason: it doesn't tell you that you can hold the switch and make one cog rotate. You can't choose which one though. Holding both of the switches will make the middle cog rotate. Also, you see that thing to the left that goes down everytime you flip a switch? If it goes to the ground, the puzzle will be locked and you'll have to reset it with the switch at the top right hand corner. Needless to wait until it's down to restart from the beginning: just flip that switch and it will reset. Kinda useful if you think you're screwing up this puzzle. Enter the code then go at the top of the hill nearby the planetarium. The big cogwheel is now open and a book can be found. This is the way to the mechanical age. Touch the book to go to this world.

So, there is now something I must tell you. It's impossible to leave a world unless you find the book leading to Myst. In order to find it, you'll have to solve the puzzle of each world. It's relatively easy to solve it so you don't have to worry about that. For example, in this world, you can see a panel with four wheels and four switches right at the beginning, to your left. You need to find the code and enter it in this. Now, see that island to the east of the building? The only way to reach it is rotate the building itself so the bridge is linked to the island. Enter the building, go either to the left and to the right, pass by the room and turn to your left or to your right (depending where you come from) to find a switch. Press it, go down and flip the switch so the middle round has it's opening at the same exact spot as the other round (1). Now, go back up, press the switch and move on. The elevator is now accessible. Drop in, close the door with the button between the two arrows and go up by pressing the top button. Press the middle button now, leave the elevator and turn back to see another panel. Use it to make the building move to the island you saw earlier. First, flip the left switch then hold the right switch and finally press the little button below to call the elevator. Go back outside and go at the top of the island to get one half of the code. Turn back to see another island to the right. Go back in the building, then to the elevator and repeat the same operation to make the building rotate so you can reach the other island. Go back outside, go to the top of the island and get the other half of the code. Now, you need to go back in the building, make it rotate in order to go back to the panel at the beginning of the world. Enter the code to unlock the stash in which the book to Myst is hidden. You found it, hurray! But don't you think you miss something important? The pages, indeed! The pages are not really hard to find actually. In this world, you have to go in one of the rooms, locate a secret trapdoor in a wall, interact with it and go in the secret room. The page will be there. Remember that you can carry one page at the time. So, if you eventually want to pick up both of the pages, you'll have to come back in this world, get the other page and return to Myst. Fear not, the puzzle won't reset. Once you have one of the pages, go back to Myst with the book, bring the page to the specific person and proceed to the next world, in search of the next page.

STONESHIP AGE

Rotate the tower on the world map until the ray reached the dock. Now, go at the top of the tower, remember the coordinates written on the sign behind the elevator, go back to the library and read the book at the far right of the top shelf. At the end of the book, you'll find the constellations. Go outside and turn left to find the planetarium. Go in, turn off the light with the button next to the door, use the device and enter the coordinates to see a constellation. Do the same thing with the two other coordinates then leave the planetarium. Outside, there's some switches around a pool with a replica of the shipwreck. Push the following buttons to raise the sunken ship: leaf, snake and spider. Go to the dock, then on the boat, open the door and touch the book to go to the stoneship age.

Behind you, you'll see a part of a ship filled with water. To the left, there's a panel that we're going to use in just a moment, after gathering more information about this place. To your right, you'll see the lighthouse. And finally, right before you a mountain with some kind of undergound passageway. For starters, reach the top of the mountain with the stairs and use the telescope. Turn around until you see the top of the lighthouse and keep in mind the coordinate (which represents the direction, 0 being north and 180 being south etc... ). Now, go to the panel and press the button to the right to lower the level of the water in the light house. You can see a key on the wooden bridge but, sadly, it's attached to a short chain and can't be used to open the hatch above your head. Go down to find a locked chest. If you check it closely, you'll see a sink to its left. Interact with it to empty the chest, then use it once more after draining all the water and go back to the panel. Press the middle button, go back to the lighthouse and use the key to open the chest. Take the key inside then unlock the hatch and go up. Use the generator to charge the place and go in the passageway. If you go straight forward, you'll find a luxurious room. The blue page can be found there. There's something else you should spot before going to that room: a red square on a wall (2). It's actually a trapdoor. Open it to access a secret area with a compass. Now, if you remember where the lighthouse was located when you used the telescope, press the specific button. Otherwise, mister Laian will tell you where to press. The lighthouse is located to the south-east. And let there be light! That means you solved the puzzle of this zone. Time to grab one of the pages. Like I said earlier, there is a room at the end of the last passageway. The red page is in the last drawer of the chest of drawers. Now, from the compass, go in the other passageway, open the trapdoor and turn left. There's another room with the other page on the bed. There's also in the same room a piece of paper in the second to last drawer of the chest of drawers. This will become important once the second half will be found. Once you decided which one you want to bring back to Myst, go back to the panel and press the left button. Go back to the part of the ship and go downstairs. Open the door, carry on to find the book to Myst, magically appearing from... the texture of the wooden table... right. It's a kind of magic, what else ? Touch it to go back to the library and use the page to the specific book. Two more worlds to explore, folks. Half of the game has been done so keep it up.

CHANNELWOOD AGE

In order to explore this world, you have to rotate the tower to the cabin located to the north-west of the world map. Then, as always, go at the top of the tower and remember the code. Head to the cabin, find the safe and open it with the code. A box of matches is inside the safe. Use a match to start the generator and turn the valve to make the tree outside go up. Turn the valve the opposite way to make the tree go down once it's done with the ascent. Now, leave the cabin, turn left and go in the elevator within the tree to go down and find the book to Channelwood Age. Touch it.

The puzzle here is not that hard. First things first, head to the wind turbine at the top of the hill and enter the shed. Turn the valve then flip the switch and go back to the first branching path. You need to change the direction of the water in order to make all the devices work. The first thing is a bridge. The first and second branching paths don't need to be changed, the third one does. Follow the pipe and flip the switch at the end. Cross the bridge, turn right and turn the crank to link the pipe. This will become important later. Go back to the second branching path from the hill, change the direction and follow the pipe to the next branching path. Change the direction, then the direction of the next branching path and use the elevator to go up. Go right, then to the right and activate the switch to open the door. Go there, then down and redirect the water to power the elevator. Go back up and use the elevator to go up. From here, you nearly solved the puzzle, there is just one step to do before leaving this place. Yeah, there is one of the pages to grab but there's also another elevator to power with the water, elevator that leads you to the book. The pages can be found in the rooms. One is behind you and it's where you will find the red page and the other half of that message. Check the right drawer under the bed and the drawer of the table next to the bed. As for the blue page, from the elevator, just go forth and enter the last cabin. The blue page is at the foot of that strange device. Now, go back down with one of the pages, change the direction of the first branching paths, follow the pipe and change the direction of the fourth branching paths. Unfortunately for you, you can't leap over the gap so you have to cross the bridge and go to the elevator at the other side. Drop in the elevator, go up and touch the book to go back to Myst. Use the page on the specific book and proceed to the next world.

SELENITIC AGE

Rotate the tower so the ray touches the airship outside the library. Go at the top of the tower as always, keep in mind the information written on the sign and go outside. Now, go to the other cabin on this island, go downstairs, open the door and solve the puzzle. You need to push the buttons until the charge is up to 59. Press the button one by one to see the amount of watts for each button and then push the ones needed to get that result. Go back to the library and read the big blue book in the second shelf. At one point, you'll see the drawing of a keyboard with numbers. Keep in mind this and go to the airship. Open the door, go in, turn left and press the keys as mentioned in the book. Now, turn back to see a strange device. Activate the switches so it makes the same tones as the keyboard, starting from 1 to 5. Flip the last switch and the book will appear on the screen. Touch it to go to Selenitic Age.

This puzzle was a preview of what you will have to solve in this world to find the book to Myst. Pass by the device, go left to find the blue page and push the button. Go back, press all the other buttons, at the other locations (remember there's the red page above the third button) and go down with the ladder at the end of the line. Go through the underground passageway, climb up the ladder and open the hatch. Now, adjust the device so you can perfectly hear the song produced by the different spots and press the button. Keep in mind the order, go back to the device and enter the code you heard earlier. The door is now open. Before opening the door, grab one of the two pages. Now, open the door, carry on and enter the submarine. This is a joyride in the depths of that place. Actually, it's a maze. Ok, it's a mix of these two things, whatever. Each sound you will hear is the direction to go. At some points, two sounds will be mixed, which obviously means the direction you have to go is either south-west, south-east, north-west or north-east, depending of the sounds mixed. Refer to the compass and use the buttons to make your way through this maze. If you are stuck, don't worry: you can press «backward» and go back in order to be on the right path. Here are the directions: north, west, north, east, east, south, south, west, south-west, west, north-west, north-east, north and south-east. Open the door to exit the submarine, go through the passageway, open the door and touch the book to go back to Myst. Use the page on the specific book for further instructions from one of the prisoners.

D'NI AGE

At this point of the game, you helped either Syrrus or Achenar (or both). They will tell you the same instructions. You need to retrieve one more page to free them from their prison. It's hidden in the fireplace and there's a code to enter in order to find them. Oh, they also mention a certain green book you mustn't touch. Why? You'll see in just a moment. It's actually the end of the game and where you have to make a choice that will affect the ending of this game. For starters, read the said book, well the page mentioned by Atrus' sons. Now, go in the fireplace, enter the code to see the last blue page, the last red page and the green book. You can either take one of the pages and bring it back to the specific book but this will grant you one of the bad endings. The green book is Atrus' lair actually and you can get the best ending if you have one thing in your possession. Otherwise, you'll get another bad ending. So how to get that special thing? Well, if you remember the two parts of the piece of paper you may have found earlier, a message is written on it once both of the pages are reunited. Here is the message:

MARKER SWITCH VAULT ACCESS

ISLAND OF MYST

The Vault is located in a very plain view on
the island of Myst, and access can be
achieved very easily if the simple
instructions are followed. First, locate
each of the Marker Switches on the island.
Turn every one of the switches to the
«on» position. Then go to the dock and
as a final step, turn the Marker Switch
there to the «off» position.

Basically, you need to turn off the one at the dock if you turned all the switches on earlier in the game. You'll see a white page (3). You must take it if you want the best ending. Now, go back to the fireplace, re-enter the code and touch the book to meet Atrus. After the discussion, give the page to Atrus and click on the big book after he vanished. Like I said, if you don't have this page, you will never get the best ending. You really need it. Atrus comes back and thanks you for helping him. You completed Myst but you are free to explore the island if you want to. Just touch the book to go back there.

BONUS PART: RIME AGE

This area is a bonus level added to that version of the game. It wasn't in the original game. There's nothing really interesting to do there, except for a puzzle to solve and three achievements to unlock. The only way to go there is reading the book Atrus left on the floor when you go back to the library. You also noticed that the blue book and the red book vanished. Yeah, Atrus killed his sons who betrayed him. Sad punishment, oh well. Time to unlock the door to that secret place. Read the book to find a code. Now go back to this chamber at the beginning of the game and interact with the panel. Enter «40», press the button, then the one behind you to make some kind of holographic mountain appear and finally the other button located at the back of the device. A new panel appears in the alcove and this should be familiar to you. Yes, it's exactly the way to the airship. Flip the round to unlock the way to the secret area, leave the chamber and go there. Enter the code and go back to the library. Touch the book to go to Rime Age.

Head to the house in front of you, find the valve around it and turn it. Now, enter the house, close the door behind you and press the button. Open the large door next to the book to Myst, carry on and use the elevator to go up. You can get an achievement with the panel in front of you. Just flip the switch to the right to choose a color then the other one and a colored aurora will appear in the sky. Now, go back in the elevator and press the button your left. You can read the book on the table if you want to, otherwise press the button the bottom button of the elevator. Read the note on the table in the next room, remember the shape and the color of each crystal drawn on the note and interact with the device. So, here is the major puzzle of this secret area. You need to enter the code, that's it. Click once to change the shape of the crystal and hold the left mouse button to change the color. The cursor must be on the crystal in order to work. If you enter the code correctly, you should get that picture instead of the cosmos if you touch the lighting device, as shown on this screenshot (4). Plus, you'll get a second achievement. There's nothing else to do here so you can, go back to the hall of the cabin, touch the book and go back to Myst.

Well then, that's all for this walkthrough. Kinda short but the game isn't that long actually as you can tell, unless you really want to get all the achievements, endings and Easter eggs hidden here and there. Speaking of Easter eggs and achievements, I wanted to make another bonus part but I removed that idea after all. If you want me to tell you where to find the Easter eggs and if you have some troubles with the Steam achievements or anything else in the game, feel free to ask by leaving a comment below and I'll make sure to reply the best I could. I see you in the next walkthrough. Until next time folks, take care.

Wow, this is an absolutely fantastic game guide! I know you say it was short, but I think it was very long myself, and you did a great job with adding a vast amount of detail to this guide. I've never played this game myself, but if I do I'll definitely have to read this guide again so that I know what I'm doing.
