Do you guys think the Viz prices of the RGR games should be reduced? The average rom game doesn't cost very much Viz but the large MAME games and CD games are big in file size and end up costing 1000s of Viz. Of course these games have to cost Viz to prevent huge bandwidth consumptions but I'd be wiling to reduce the prices. An idea would be to help cover the Viz price reduction by placing 1 box ad in the play window for large games (of course I'd find some way for users to pay Viz to not have that).

I want to find a good balance between allowing users to play all the games they want to play and preserving bandwidth charges. I'd hate for users to leave the site because they didn't have enough Viz to play the games that they wanted.

Staff : Would like your feedback also.

I personally think that with all of the recent boosts in how much Viz you can get per action that there is no need to lower the price for games, and if so, maybe by just 5 percent or a small drop

David I like the prices. In fact I think they might need increased just a bit. It helps users actually have to contribute to the site to play the old childhood classics. This helps the site a lot so do not lower the prices. There are also those other users who have too much Viz and need a way to get rid of it all and that is a perfect way. Playing in the RGR.

The Dreamcast games cost a lot but they also give you a lot once you save up enough to buy it so people will need to contribute even more to save up the Viz to play them.

You did bring up a good argument though that users would leave the site if they could not play the games so I am not sure how to find a good mix between those.

Okay so I think the prices are great as they are and should not be higher or lower.

Davideo7 : I don't know much about bandwidth and how to reduce it without making it crash due to an overstrain of people coming on. Depending on what system it is they're playing I don't see a huge problem with the Viz price unless it's like 5000 Viz.

I can't really give ideas for how to reduce bandwidth charges but I think maybe as I said above depending on what you're playing the prices could be lowered or stay at a decent level. For example like how some games on SNES are worth 10 or 50 Viz at times, that would be ok but if it's something like the Sega Saturn which is newer you would bump it up to let's say 400- 450Viz since it's newer and users gain 100 Viz each day from coming online so it wouldn't take that long to get that much. Same thing with the PSX since it's newer you'd have it be 500-650Viz to play a game.

Personally I have no problem with the prices how they are (but that's also because I actually earn Viz by doing things on the site instead of just playing). But if they were to be lowered I'd say that's how it would go.

Not on most games, though I have seen some with insane price tags that were a bit offputting because of it. I say go for whichever is best for the site and you financially.

Would this ever be possible with PSX games, and allow for a price drop on the PSX item? I've seen a few people join lately who joined for the PSX only to find out that it would be a few months (or several depending on personal forum activity levels) before they could play said games. If that were a feasible option I'd support it. Not sure because of bandwidth again.

If by adding on advertisement you could lower the Viz prices, I think that's the way to go.

Like Eirinn said, high prices are sometimes offputting to potential players.

I know that when I was new, 1000 Viz looked like a lot.
It felt like it too, since I had no multipliers.

I think the prices can be lowered by 1/4 for the MAME and CD-based systems. Or reduce by whatever fraction/percentage to where it won't affect bandwidth costs. Obviously you have the set costs based on what you currently think will not affect bandwidth costs.

crush_overider : I'm not sure but I think the ad will still generate revenue even if the user has an ad blocker. In other words if the ad isn't visible to the user because it's blocked, the ad code is still there, so it will still generate revenue.

tRIUNE : So... if the advertise continue generate money or Viz or bandwitch or whatever thing... its ok, I'm new in the web so don't know costs are high or low, but I make Viz easy from trade some things in steam . But I see 1 game for 4k Viz xD, this is crazy... but I think 1.250 or 1.500 its a reasonable price for the best or most played games in CD SYSTEM.

I think you should only change the CD game prices (and maybe the MAME prices). Like you said, most games are affordable, but Dreamcast and Playstation games can get into the higher thousands.

These prices are perfectly reasonable to me.

If the games take up these huge amounts of space (especially CD games) than they should cost a ton of Viz.

Maybe 1000 Viz is a little much, but for those HUGE games (file size wise) people have to understand just how much bandwidth those things take up.

With things such as those playstation and Dreamcast games, those really do take up a TON of bandwidth, and require a huge file to download, so I feel like people should have to pay those high prices. But in reality, 3,4,or 5 k for one game is really pretty expensive.

And with ads, I'd be fine with those because I have enough Viz to get rid of them, but for other users, how big would these ads be? And with some of the ads that have been popping up on the site, those could also drive away some potential users.

To be honest, I think the prices are fine the way they are. I'd rather have the games be expensive than to have to deal with some ad every time I want to play a PS1 game. (or dreamcast games if either keyboard support gets added or if I happen to find a pc controller I can use.)

I don't see anything wrong with the prices. The bigger the strain on the server, the bigger the cost, it's obvious.

True is that newbies just coming to the site will back off once they see the prices, but it's not that hard to earn Viz nowadays. Also, many of these users won't have a powerful enough computer to play them, so we're talking about a minority.

tRIUNE : As someone who watches a lot of Twitch, a lot of broadcasters that have partnerships will suggest you disable your adblocker. Adblockers not only block the ad, but also block the code that tells the ad it showed to the user. So having adblocker would prevent David from getting the revenue from the ads.

Davideo7 : I think that the Viz prices are fair all around. Although I think some of the less popular systems like Sega CD Turbo CD and the like could be reduced a little. The more popular systems like PS1 and N64 should probably remain higher as those games are using more bandwidth.

Eirinn : The price on the Playstation item is actually a really good deal when you consider the fact that there are almost 2500 Playstation games on vizzed totaling 800+ GB.

What I really want to do is bring down the costs of the really expensive games. Years ago vizzed didn't have very much competition but now days it has a lot. I'd hate to lose a ton of traffic to the competition because users don't want to have to earn Viz to play the games on Vizzed when they can just play the games on the other sites.

The bandwidth usage is actually not bad at the moment, I'm hitting a little less than 1/3 of my monthly limit. Once summer comes around I'm sure I'll be hitting around 1/2 but that's still not a big concern. I'm not saying I want to make all games accessible to everyone for 0 Viz because then bandwidth usage would most likely become a huge concern but as I said above, I think I could lower the Viz prices of the more expensive games. I also want to make them just high enough so that users have to either contribute or visit the site daily in order to save up Viz.

I came up with a great idea though for figuring out the Viz price based on the file size. The bigger the game, the less I want each KB to add to the total Viz price so doing the square root of the file size is perfect. I spent like 2 hours trying to come up with a good formula and I couldn't believe how perfect square root is for this. So all I have to do is take the square root of the file size in KB and divide that number by 2 (rounded up) and that's the new Viz prices you'll see below.

Here's an example of a few games and their current price and what their new price would be (left is old price, right is new price):
Donkey Kong Atari 2600 - 4 KB = 1 Viz -> 1 Viz
Super Mario Bros 3 - 228 KB = 10 Viz -> 8 Viz
Sonic the Hedgehog - 382 KB = 20 Viz -> 10 Viz
Chrono Trigger - 3,037 KB = 30 Viz -> 28 Viz
Pokemon Emerald - 6,978 KB = 24 Viz - > 42 Viz
Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time - 26,606 KB = 89 Viz -> 82 Viz
Saturn Bomberman - 354,061 KB = 1180 Viz -> 298 Viz
Sonic Adventure - 1,079,923 KB = 3600 -> 520 Viz

Some of the cheaper games would actually go up in price but as you can see, most of the more expensive games drop in price by a lot. For those who don't know, the Viz price of games is currently based on the file size / 300 (rounded up) but for games smaller than 10 MB, they have a fixed price based on their file size range rather than actual file size. If the new prices seem too small then I can just not divide by 2 and just do the square root by itself which would result into all of the new prices being doubled what I showed above.

Something to also think about is that the V-Machine CD item in the item shop allows you to play every game on vizzed for only 50,000 Viz and this includes CD systems. The average price of a Dreamcast game right now is probably around 2500 Viz so basically if you play 20 DC games, that's the price of that item shop item.

Donkey Kong Atari 2600 - 4 KB = 1 Viz -> 1 Viz
Super Mario Bros 3 - 228 KB = 10 Viz -> 8 Viz
Sonic the Hedgehog - 382 KB = 20 Viz -> 10 Viz
Chrono Trigger - 3,037 KB = 30 Viz -> 28 Viz
Pokemon Emerald - 6,978 KB = 24 Viz - > 42 Viz
Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time - 26,606 KB = 89 Viz -> 82 Viz
Saturn Bomberman - 354,061 KB = 1180 Viz -> 298 Viz
Sonic Adventure - 1,079,923 KB = 3600 -> 520 Viz

I personally don't think so besides for one game: Resident Evil 2 on N64. That's a bit heavy in price, but besides that, I think everything's perfect.

This could work out really well for some of the bigger games and I think some users should be able to enjoy this.

   That is actually a good idea for the larger games. Maybe even Dreamcast but then people would want to play it and not have a good enough computer to handle the Dreamcast.
