Tough decision. When it comes to writing, I'm going with pens. Any pen really as long as the ink flow is smooth and you don't need to use a lot of pressure. For pencils...I'm not sure. I draw and use mechanical pencils for fine details because the graphite just naturally has a sharp, fine tip. But I may have to go with regular pencils. I have about 10 different graded pencils that I use for different degrees of shading and I couldn't live without them.

When it comes to mechanical pencils vs normal pencils, I prefer the mechanical pencils all the way for school purposes and writing purposes because the led can stay very thin (assuming you buy .5 or .7 led) constantly without having to sharpen your pencil like you would do with a normal pencil. It is also easier to write with in my opinion, the only drawback for me would be when I am drawing something I prefer a pencil because it gives a better effect when you are drawing anime style compared to a mechanical pencil.

I like pens, however, as we already know most pens do not have the option to fix a mistake if one makes the mistake, but if you learn how to use the pen then I feel that the pen would be the best for many purposes; even drawing since it would help when you finish the pencil sketch and you re-draw it with the pen. So if I can use the pen without making too many mistakes then I can prefer the pen over the pencil since I don't have to bother about pressing for more led or having to sharpen my pencil. And pens come in many colors so yes pen is the winner.

Back when I was in school, it would normally depend in what I'm doing like if I was doing school work, I always use mechanical pencils; but as an artist, I normally use a classic pencil because whenever you need to erase something, it wouldn't be a pain in the behind.

So to me, I mostly favorite the classic pencil.

Most definitely mechanical since I discovered it a long time ago. Sure having to fill in is annoying sometimes but it is definitely better than sharpening more regularly. I do like pen too, but with pencil it is easier to correct.

From an artists point of view I personally enjoy a regular pencil any day. Due to a mechanical pencil's lack in point, angle usage, and freedom of how I position my hand. They are great for handwriting and simple things, but I feel that I'm limited with it.

As for pens. I don't use them unless it's an artist ink pen. I love ink pens, but their is a big difference between a writing pen and an artist's pen.

I love pencils, any kind, but preferably #2 pencils. I'm that one odd kid who plays with his pencils during school using Imagination. Pens aren't easy for it. Pencils will remain the best.

I prefer mechanical pencils over regular pencils. Mainly because it's less of a hassle to get some lead to write with. With regular pencils, you have to sharpen them, and sometimes, the sharpeners don't even work all that well. But with mechanical pencils, all you have to do is put in more lead. It's just easier for me.

I prefer regular pencils. Although they have to be sharpened, they're easier for me to write with since the led doesn't break as easily.

Also, I'm usually required to use a regular pencil when I'm taking a test with a bubble sheet, and if I normally used mechanical pencils I'd probably forget to bring a regular pencil and have to ask for one

Man, I wish I was good at art like all you guys! I like using mechanical ones for school, so no sharpening, but when I (try) drawing I use real.

I actually like regular better. Mostly because of the fact that you don't have to be so gentle with them, and that they are a heck of a lot better for drawing with.

I only like pens when I'm writing on something I know I won't make any mistakes on. I've been using the same mechanical pencil on all my schoolwork for the last three years. I like that the lead is always consistent and doesn't require sharpening. So yeah, big on the mechanical variety.

I have preferred mechanical pencils for a very long time. It's so much simpler to use them rather than ordinary pencils: no need for sharpening, an unlimited supply of writing and it can never break. Granted, you must  be careful how you handle the writing part so it doesn't end up writing to pale.

Finally the, er, mechanism is very durable.

This is a hard question for me. Since I have not used a mechanical pencil much and pens I cannot erase with so I know I do not like pens the most. Regular pencils I us all the time though in school. Since we need to use Number 2 Pencils for tests and such. Though when I do use a mechanical pencil think they are better than regular pencils. Below are some reasons.

My first reason is mechanical pencils you never need to sharpen unlike regular pencils. Regular pencils usually get me threw a day and then I have to resharpen it. Which really gets annoying considering some teachers do not even have pencil sharpeners.

My second reason is that I cannot always get the perfect sharp on some regular pencils while mechanical pencils are always easy to write with.

Though mechanical pencils are not very sharp a lot of times like I would want them to be they are still less annoying it use. With regular pencils I can also write in different ways. So really once I think about it more now I really do not which one I like more. Mechanical or regular. So I guess they are tied for me.

Honestly, I like regular pencils than the mechanical pencils. I press too hard when I write, so it breaks the lead. I also find it easier to sharpen a pencil, than having to buy lead all the time. I use both of them all the time, but wooden pencils are my favorite. Pens are also another favorite.

I like using a straight up Number 2 pencil. I do not like mechanical pencils because I break the lead way too easy. I like using pens too but with a pencil, if I make a mistake, I can simply erase it and rewrite the word.

I use mechanical pencils a lot more often than I've used wooden/number 2 pencils. I've always preferred them mainly because they don't require sharpening, and my work/handwriting seems to look a lot nicer when I use a mechanical pencil. I don't really have much of a problem using a number 2 pencil, but if I were given the choice, I would definitely take the mechanical pencil. Another reason why I prefer them to wooden pencils is because they feel better and perhaps even easier to grasp and write with. This is most likely due to the eraser grip, but nonetheless, my work ends up looking better with a mechanical pencil.

I use all 3. I like lead pencils a lot and mechanical pencils but whatever I can get my hands on to whether that be a pencil or a pen I use it. Sometimes I need something in a rush if I'm on the phone and need to write a note or if my mom does.

The randomness levels of this question are sky-high, but okay.

I like mech. pencils. Easy to write with. I don't hold my pencil right, but it's not like anyone will notice. They don't give me blisters on my hand like wood ones do.
