ZeroTails : and I were just talking about this over the impossible hack Mario must Die. And I just wanted to see how you all liked to play. There is no right or wrong answer, it just depends on your tastes and gameplay styles. So, here's the question, do you like to use the cheats, look up info on a game, or anything else besides figuring it out, or do you like to get it done yourself?

For me, I have always been a do-it-yourself gamer. No matter how hard it is, I always like to figure it out myself. That way, I can feel as though I accomplished something. I've perfected games such as Pac Man World 1 & 3, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Sunshine, and Metroid Other M in this manner. Okay, the Pac Man world 3 is not 100% honest. There was this one watermelon that I could not figure out how to reach for years. My brother ended up figuring it out and then told me. Well, I perfected the game, but even now, I still wished that I had figured it out on my own. But that's me for you. Always got to be the hard way; I guess I am stubborn or something like that!

I will go over each aspect of cheating to answer this question.

Gameshark ect
No. I used to, but it just takes away from the fun of beating the game. Sure, a boss may be destroying you, but you're going to cheat? I like the sense of achievement when I beat a game, and cheating takes away from that.

Guides
Only if I'm desperate. By desperate, I mean desperate. I used to, but not now. If you use a guide to beat a game, you're not beating it yourself, and therefore taking away from the sense of achievement. I know that some people need guides to beat a game, and that's fine, but it isn't that, well, legit. I make guides to help people, not to have them use it all the time. Regardless, it's set up that way.

YouTube
Okay, I love watching YouTube. It just happens. And when I play a game I've seen a video of, I tend to use what I remembered. 

Aside from YouTube (and guides sometimes), I tend to do things myself. Just me.

FaithFighter : I prefer to play the game without the use of cheats. It's just, I want to complete the game by myself, originally. I only watch YouTube videos if I'm really stuck at some part, but I never use cheat codes. Cheats are fun, but I would use them only after the complitation of the game, not to complete the game. If I don't use cheats, and I beat a hard game, it shows that I have gaming skills, and to beat it originally. As for 'Mario Must Die', no matter how many tries it takes, I'll manage to complet it without the use of cheats.

greenluigi : Liked your post. He was just wondering if using cheats and glitches was the only way to win the game, though. I'm certainly not going back to it. I've got better things to do. Games to play, reviews and guides to write,plus talking with my friends on vizzed.

FaithFighter : I'm not sure who you mean by "he". I was the one who suggested cheats, and I'm a girl (made apparent by my semi-pink name). But yea, cheats are not a good thing to use. Too... boring.

Cheats yes I use them. Not all the time but I don't mind using them. In terms of guides it all depends on what type of game I am playing. Sports and platformers no I rarely need guides. If it is games that require you to explore a lot then yes I need a guide as I am not very good at memorizing places in games.

Well if I ever do use cheats out of difficulty I make it a task to replay the part that gave me trouble the right way. Especially in SCP containment breach... jeez. And since I'm the kind of experimenter in games, if I find a ridiculous cheat I will probably try it just to see what it lets me accomplish, like when I found a cheat for infinite city health in Superman Returns. It's a pretty tough game, since even though Superman is invincible, and when he loses his health you simply kneel down for a bit and press buttons to gain your health back, it's not superman you need to worry about. If you or the enemies manage to damage the city and pedestrians enough, it counts as a loss. So  I turned on the cheat, making it impossible to lose, and the first thing I do is fly up high enough to avoid any random encounters, then go to a safe place and start MURDERING EVERYTHING. Yep, give Superman an invincible city he can save, and he sees it as an opportunity to kill everyone. I know there was a way to freeroam as bizarro, but still, superman has tornado breath :3

For single player games, I won't look up guides or cheats without beating the game first on my own. Otherwise, what's the fun if you can't figure things out yourself? I'd only turn to a guide if I really get stuck on a part, to the point where it's not fun playing it anymore, so I just want to get by it.

I love to use cheats after I finish a game. To me, cheats are a way to make the game a new experience on the second playthrough, and never to make it through the first playthrough.

So basically here's how it always goes for me:
1. Play through the entire game.
2. Restart and use every cheat I can find.
3. Write overly lengthy posts explaining said system.

I have looked up a solution to a game puzzle once in recent times however, it was to a puzzle in Twilight Princess. I only did this because it was one of those annoying sliding puzzle-esque puzzles that the devs of that series feel they must implement in the games, and honestly I simply cannot grasp how to work one of those.

Moral to the story: Sliding puzzles are my Kryptonite. they render me powerless. T_T

I usually don't like cheats at all, but it depends on the game, really. When I play games from series I enjoy, like Mega Man and Resident Evil, I make sure not to ever look up cheats. It's the same with games that I know are the last in the series or generally short, yet are really enjoyable, such as Half-Life 2. I remember being stuck for long times on several parts of the game, but I kept going without help because it was so great. If I cheat, it's usually by looking up tips and advice to try not to spoil too much.

Oh, and of course, actual cheats are fun on games you've finished.

I have a very strict rule when it comes to cheating. My rule is that I can only cheat after I beat the game without it because I accually beat the game without cheating so no one can criticize me trust me some people do not all but some.

For me, I beat the game on my own first, and afterwards, I use cheats. Because, It's not really fun whenever you let the game beat itself, you know? Games are supposed to give you enjoyment, but with cheats, that enjoyment isn't really the same to me.

It really depends... I sometimes cheat, on games like Age of Empires, I do it because I only have a limited time I can play, so I speed it up by doing that. For other games, I love the challenge!

First time playing a game, I tend to play through it all by myself. No guides or anything unless I've spent over an hour on one part and I'm well and truly stuck. If I were to use cheats, it would cheapen the experience for me.
But after that, I enjoy using the occasional cheat/glitch just to see how broken a game can be. Not necessarily Gameshark, but more game-breaking bugs.

I beat the game first, then I tend to cheat to mess around a bit, because its fun.

I usually play the game through first with no help with only few exceptions like hard bosses where I need a boss guide or a puzzle I just can't seem to solve.
Game cheats I use second play through for the rare games that have debug rooms or easter eggs you can only get through a cheat.  Xenogears is a prime example for you can only see one video if you use the debug cheat!
Now some games I find fun using a guide to help me get extra or rare things but that is only for second play through.

I don't like using cheats for the most part, at least on my first playthrough. I don't like having to use some cheats in order to finish the game, because it makes me feel like I didn't earn it. But after I already beat it, I may check out some cheats and just have some fun with it. Usually, the only time I'll use cheats to beat a game first time through is the game has lost my interest, and I just want to finish it off for closure instead of the accomplishment of beating the game.
