This may sound crude, but I honestly don't care. Someone being transgender doesn't make them special or any more important to me than someone who is not transgender. SJW's these days will perform a witch hunt on anyone that is against the idea of changing your gender. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and nobody has the right to force someone to change their opinion. That goes both ways. It's not polite and not okay to tell a transgender/SJW to see a therapist or to open their eyes, but it's also not okay to slander someone for being against the concept of 'transgender', because that doesn't make them a bad person. Now again, I really couldn't care less. I'm not advocating for it but I'm not against it either. They're humans and should be treated with the same amount of respect as others, whether you agree with their choices or you don't. I will say that the one thing that bothers me is when certain people don't allow you to make a mistake; and while I don't want to generalize, it's the reason why I'm not necessarily for it either. I've known someone who is transgender since before they transitioned, and after they asked me to call them a 'she' instead of a 'he', I respected their request. But since I had known them for so long, it wasn't easy to suddenly change like that. So naturally there came a time when I wasn't paying attention and called them a 'he', out of habit. And they got so mad at me, that they broke off all forms of contact and blocked me everywhere they could for "not respecting them and their decision". Which in turn got me some heat from SJW's in our school. I found the situation incredibly stupid, and after I called them out for overreacting and called them petty for ending a friendship over something so trivial and irrelevant as using a wrong pronoun (receiving even more heat from the SJW's lol) we haven't talked since. It's stuff like this that makes me want to avoid getting too close to someone who is transgendered, because what's the point if certain people don't allow you to be human and f*** something up lol. I remember back in late 2014 / early 2015 when transgender was a common topic on chat. It was to the point where I didn't want to hear about and got sick of it. Here's a thing. I don't care what gender you are. Gender is not important. If you want to change your gender, that's fine, and I'll fully support you and make sure to call you the right pronoun. Unfortunately, as Furret says, transgender people get so badly triggered over being referred to by the wrong pronoun. I mean, it's okay when someone slips once, but if someone was doing it consistently and refuses to work on it, then go ahead and rip their heads out. Of course, I've never met a person like that in person. Online though, eh... I did say I didn't wanna hear about it back in early 2015. That was because it was a topic on chat one night, and I decided to point out that I don't care what gender people are because, to me, it doesn't tell me what kind of person they are. I learned that night that it was a mistake to say that in the presence of a trans person. The next twenty minutes was this person getting pissed at me and chat-yelling at me, and demanding an apology, saying I was wrong. Yeah... hell no. I'll apologize for offending someone, but I won't apologize for having a different opinion. I also have to point out, not all transgender people are petty like the one Furret dealt with. I went to school with three trans people, and they were the nicest people I ever got to hang out with, and two of them were even good friends with me throughout my senior year of high school. While they do get upset when someone uses the wrong gender, they acknowledge that it's often a slip up and don't really mind at all. It's when certain people continue to do so when they finally attempt to say something. Either way, they were chill and patient, and even more, they were very nice people. Furret : You saying your school is full of SJWs who need to take a chill pill reminds me of my former friend. This one day in school, one of my trans friends was sick, so my art teacher sent me to take him down to the nurse. Afterwards, I returned, and I guess the art teacher was worried about him and saying so loud enough for my former friend to hear, because she started calling my teacher out for misgendering my friend. The funny thing about this though is that after it happened, the first thing my former friend does it come straight to me and say this: "Thank you for not defending your own friend, b****." This, along with other reasons, is why I'm not friends with her anymore lmao. She legit accused me of never correcting other people about misgendering friends, something that I actually do if it's people who are unaware that they make a mistake. The best thing about this is she acts like she's a much better friend to him than I am and claims to be a true defender of trans people, yet she treated my other trans friend like s*** and spread nasty rumors about him :/ Of course, I've never met a person like that in person. Guess how aggressive people get towards trans discussing identity, or how many flip the heck out at otherkin stuff like it's the weirdest thing they've ever seen.
Reasons for the hostility don't make sense, and really, you can't expect that to go away without an serious effort to make space for people to actually talk about their experiences. I believe the utter purpose of changing your gender is to feel more comfortable associating with a certain type of people, not your physical attributes. I don't get why people want to question the behavioral nodes of the human body, seems arbitrary. I myself, at school, more importantly, live in a very open community where everyone is accepted. Though we don't have a transgender (or at least, no one that I know of.) we realize the importance of sharing and respecting others in a society where stereotypes can often be gathered. No one deserves not to be respected, so why should this exclude Transgenders? I myself, at school, more importantly, live in a very open community where everyone is accepted. I have learned a lot out of this thread. As someone who entered this thinking, "gee, the general consensus will sway my ultimate decision on my next life choices"...I now know it's best to just do nothing, live my life being miserable, and just not care. |

I myself would. I mean, it is like asking, "They like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and I do not, should I bully them about it?" Except that a lot of people who are transgender have depression and gender dysphoria, and the effects are much worse than what they would be in my example. |

Yes absolutely. In my opinion it's pretty much basic human respect, whether you're a good or a terrible person, I will refer to you with preferred pronouns to the best of my ability ^w^. Of course, I'll probably slip up now and then especially if I knew you prior to you coming out, but that's to be expected. Heck trans people even misgender themselves sometimes :v.
(On that note, I don't think being misgendered on accident is anything to get super angry about. Yes, it hurts, but mistakes happen? Let people adjust geeze.) I don't care if you haven't transitioned yet (transitioning is expensive), are non-binary (fun fact- the white stripe in the trans flag represents non-binary people), or whatever. I will respect your pronouns. ...and that's all I'll say on the subject, since I know this can become a heated debate. I guess my opinions would be pretty obvious though if you knew me well enough lol. (On that note, I don't think being misgendered on accident is anything to get super angry about. To put simply, yes and no. If you were born a dude, I'm going to use masculine words when I talk to you, and vice verse for women. Until you actually get the change, I'm going to call you what you were born as. If you get mad at me, oh freaking well; I'm not the one with a mental illness seeking special attention. |

Before i start talking in here... I need to say that i am a transgender myself. I already mentioned this in one of my recent threads as well. That said, i actually respect everyone for what they are. Black skin or white skin, i don't mind. Blonde hair or dyed hair, i don't mind. Transgender? I certainly don't mind. If people (like me) want this, then it's their choice. I have, like, 3 or 4 friends in another community (of which the owner is a Vizzed user too) and they want to transition as well. But all of them had no luck in telling their parents, one of them even got kicked out of the house by their aunt for telling that. So i think that telling others about your choice can leave some reactions, but after all: If you want it, it's your choice. But yes, i would respect the choice of becoming a transgender. Not because i am undergoing it myself but because i respect everyone for what they are. That said, i actually respect everyone for what they are. Black skin or white skin, i don't mind.
