I dislike Final Fantasy these days. Seriously, why does it still exist? I'm sick and tired of this festering zit on the face of the gaming industry. I just fail to comprehend why people will willingly shill out $60 every time Square pumps out another cookie-cutter RPG. In my opinion Square Soft stopped caring about the quality of the game when they realized that many fans were so slavishly devoted to them to the point of near zealotry, that they'd buy anything, regardless of the price, that they put on the market.

It's not like they're all bad, the first one was okay, the one with Kefka was pretty good, too. I also didn't think Final Fantasy 7 was nearly as horrible as people made it out to be, but it certainly wasn't as good as Square's PR machine made it out to be, either. If you mention any of the problems in a Final Fantasy game, whether it be bad voice acting, maddening amounts of grinding, or contorted storylines that make Star Trek blush, many will point you to the supposed Holy Grail of the Final Fantasy series; Final Fantasy 10. According to most, this game fixes every single problem in the previous iterations of the game. If you happen to be in the party of people that believe this drivel, then I hope you never have children.

I have to question why Square chooses to make their titular character based off of a set template: Spiky hair? Check. Boyish masculinity? Check. Giant sword? Check. Adding insult to injury, several women FF fans appear to have a raeging boner over Tidus. As far as I'm concerned, that sword must be compensating for something. That, and he plays some mutilated version of soccer, and I hate jocks.

Keep milking that cashcow, Square, it hasn't dried up yet.

Tidus' voice is played by a voice actor you've probably never heard of before, a man by the name of James Arnold Taylor. He played a little known character called Fred Flinstone. Oh yes, Tidus is played by the voice actor of one of the most beloved cartoon characters of all time. Regardless of how good a job he did with Fred Flinstone, regardless of how good a job he did with Tidus, I lost all respect for the man after I saw this:

I have really never played Final Fantasy, but I heard it was made to get some more money.

OK I see and I'm not liking it. The old games good were and some of of the new FF. But this what is that? Plus what with the sword? It realy lame that almost every main charcter has a sword in the beggening.

The design is by Tetsuya Nemora. They use his illustrations for a lot of their games. I found final fantasy 10 to be their last good game. X-2 I didn't like so much. I thought that 10 was the most intricate final fantasy of all the final fantasies. It was a break through of games with lots of voice acting and movie cut scenes and graphics. The music by Nobuo Uematsu was genius and well composed and implemented into the game. The characters blended well into the story as well.

I think those opinions on the game are too harsh. Some of irrelevant to judging the game for it's quality such as the looks of the character and who the voice actor is. If you were to talk about any final fantasies it should not be 10 at all, maybe 10-2 for it's run on of the story and 12.

10 isn't the "Holy Grail" either, people just love it's story. 7 was this "Holy Grail" because it is the one that people love the most and it is the most popular and people that don't even like RPGs love 7.

Final Fantasy X was a great game. Not my favorite, but I appreciate X for what it is, a great solid game.

Final Fantasy seems to be recycling their formula too much. I hope 13 has a unique plot... Because a lot of these games seem to have the same types of characters with each sequel: emo kid with a dark past who has a weird weapon, the blond one, some random angry main character who is pissed for no reason, and the girl the main character at first disliked but then eventually falls in love with. There, I think that covers the plot for the next 30 or so FF sequels XD

yay Im hoping that ff13 switches it up a little. I have noticed that square has started changing the fighting system up a little bit in other games. like crisis core

I used to hate him because i find him very annoying back then. Now hes ok, but not one of my favorite characters. Never use him much though in the game.

I have to agree with everything you just said.Yes,they have been changing it sooner or later it'll end up like live action.

The only main character that does NOT use a sword as a weapon is Zidane,with daggers.

Gosh, that's a bit harsh.
As for Tidus, I found him annoying. But I didn't hate him for it. I hated Yuna for being annoying, but that's a different story. Anyway, FFX was different. I liked it. Yeah, there are overused concepts and aspects, but in this day and age, how many things do you see that have nothing cliché about them? The story was good, the gameplay didn't suck completely.
You're basing everything on your own opinions, which is a very partial way of judging. I mean, just because you in particular don't like something doesn't mean it sucks.
As for the laughing scene... That killed me. A lot. My brother and I still make fun of it. It was just plain bad. But there are so many other good things in the game... it kills me more to see people judging an entire game on a couple of things that barely matter.

I'm a huge FF fan. Started with IV when I was like 7 and I've loved it ever since.



But, I must agree with you. After IX, I've grown tired of the series personally. Tidus blow hardcore and Vann; he's just Tidus with less clothing.

I know its strange to say, but I personally prefer my RPG's to have characters to have something that the player can relate to. And that doesn't happen now days.

Point is, you've made a good point. But sadly, Final Fantasy will never be the swan song that Square intended it to be. It will never die..

Okay. 10 wasn't amazing or anything, but I have to disagree with you on how bad you believe it is. I thought the story was unique. The love story was cliche but the main villain, Sin was different. It was a giant, sea monster with no motive to kill. Most main villains have this ambition to either rule the world or destroy it. True Sin does try to destroy the world, but it just does it out of instinct, not because of some ambition.

I agree that the laughing scene was a fail on Square's part, but a few irritating moments shouldn't mean that the entire game was awful. But you're entitled to your opinion so I'll not say anymore.

ok im gana go ahead and clear up why square enix made final fantasy. it was because square was going out of buiseness so they made one last game and called it final fantasy. and acctually i liked 10. ive liked all of them so far. as for the laughing sceen....yeh.....

Final fantasy X was amazing, easily the best game ever to come out on the PS2.. The storyline was Deep when you look past the "saving the world from Sin " part... The way they used the summoners as a martyr for saving Spira from Sin was a good call

Also i think Tidus was great main character.. your just judging from his appearance. He has a far greater personality then Cloud and Squall

I found FFX to be a good game. While other FF games have a "grinding" time inbetween major plot parts, this game was a bit different. It made you train if you want to. And the training was extremely easy. I found myself collecting a bunch of the Orbs in a short amount of time.

The movie scenes, the music, the voicing, all of it was great.

Yes they had a good idea and many great details put into the game. The Summoners, Sin, the mini-game of Blitzball, the Aeons, the Monster Hunting thing with the weird weapons. So what if the main character is a bit off appearance wise? How do you judge Bill Gates when you see him? I see a nerd with glasses, starting to lose hair, and wears button-ups with slacks. I don't see him as stylish or any form of respect. But now his name is associated with Microsoft, and he has a billionaire with a nice family and respect. You really can't judge a character like that. The amnesia part, the relationship with Yuna, the mentor-ish bond that can be considered with Auron, the brotherly one with Wakka. He is a character that i find is one of the better ones from the FF series.

I do agree though that they are pumping out some games that are more focused on the money-gaining aspect then actual quality. But there are some gems there like FFX and FFVII and my personal favorites FFV and FFIV.

Honestly, after FFVI, I just didn't like what came afterward. I loved how the early games all improved upon the previous one or at least added some new things each time. I don't think it's nearly as formulaic as Pokemon though. People don't really complain about that though. I guess it all depends on where you start and/or what you've grown accustomed to.

I didn't like FF7 field graphics at all, it made think that their limbs might snap off at any moment. Other than that I didn't have much to complain about, everything else was good.
