Almost two years ago, during a trip to Texas in February of 2013, I went Ice Skating for the first time ever and I was terrible at it. I could never make it one full lap around the rink without holding on to the rail the entire time, and even then I still managed to fall at least a dozen times, I'm just that bad.

Today I was at my agency and I found out that I wad on the list to go on an ice skating trip tomorrow with them even though I never agreed to go with them, but its a trip and I figured that maybe I could just watch them instead of actually trying to skate, but I know that won't happen and I guess trying again could be fun.

Today I brought one of my friends to the agency for the 3rd time ever and I found out that if one or two other kids drop out, then I would be able to bring my two friends and we would fail at ice skating together since we all suck. I'm not too sure where we are going for it though, if we are lucky we might actually go to Central Park or Bryant Park, or we might end up finding a local place.

I'm a bit nervous about this because I really don't want to break the majority of my bones but I can tell that its going to be a fun time.

How many of you have gone skating before and what are some of your experiences?

I love to ice skate. That said, I don't think I will ever do it again unless I get a pair of custom-fitted skates. The skates I wore (rented) last time I skated didn't fit quite right and I had to be very careful not to twist my ankle. I still had a good bit of fun. I want to get back out there on that ice...when I have a pair of skates that fit correctly.

I, for one, didn't have too much difficulty staying up even though I had very little experience ice skating (I had maybe done it twice before in my life). But as I stated, I knew the risks involved. By being careful, I had a pretty enjoyable time. But it could have been better if I didn't have to worry so much about twisting my ankle or falling.

That said, if you have the chance to go, I highly suggest it, even if the skates you get don't fit quite right. It may ignite a sense of wonder in you that you have never felt before. That would likely make the trip very much worth it.

supernerd117 : I might get a sense of wonder, but last time I did it, I did happen to lose my sense of smell for a bit from smacking into the ice too many times.

Texas and Ice Skating? That should not go together. 

As for the question, the first time I went, I think I was 7 or 8. I skated for 3 hours, and only fell on my butt 4 times! But, the last time I went, I didn't do to well: my knees were hurting that day, and it was pretty bad. I didn't fall except for once. 

thing1 : Wow, you sound like you're a master at this.

We just started heading out for the roller skating now and I'm quite terrified about it. If my friends had been able to come, I would have been able to have some fun L, bit I would still get very injured, but there were no extra spots for them.

One chapperone volunteered to come with us just to look out for me because the last time I went ice skating she forced me to get off the ice because of how injured I got.

I totally blew out my back while skating, I was just finishing up my 3rd time around and my legs went out from under me and up in the air. So my back lind of arched and my upper back and shoulders were the first to slam into the ice. It was fun overall but it took my about 40 full minutes before I finally went on the ice, and I. Total I did four laps in about an hour, but I really don't want to do this again.

zanderlex : Far from it my friend. Like I said, the last time I went, I messed my ankles up. Maybe I had different types of skates or something, I don't know. I just know that it wasn't as fun the last time I went. Probably because I didn't get Hot Chocolate after. XD 

thing1 : Well you're at least a dozen times better than me at this from the looks of it.

Don't sweat it. I'm from Canada (where "everyone" plays hockey) and I've never been able to skate properly.

However, don't worry about breaking anything. Sure, your butt might get sore from falling all the time. But unless you skate too fast or have weak bones, you're safe.

janus : My neck is still sore and my arms are bruised still. I hope I never have to skate ever again.

zanderlex : Yeah, me neither. I look clumsier on skates than an old man walking with his cane.

As for the bruises: I guess we all fall differently. Should destiny curse you with another round of skating, be sure to wear something protecting your arms, and maybe a helmet to protect your head

janus : I literally did ask someone for knee pads and pillows for my face, but to no avail.

I always loved ice skating, I had those kiddy ones and people would use to help me, however I have been getting pretty good at it, and I have fun racing, and such

imamonster : Do you have any idea how jealous I am of you now since you are good at it?

Haha, if you practice you'll get better at it, or your just not very good at it in general, and you won't get better, but who knows, right? If you try!

imamonster : I will never get better, literally. I don't even know how I'm supposed to move my feet, or push, or bend. The only way I was able to move was by keeping my right foot in place and moving my left foot back and forth, never used both feet.

zanderlex : This is perfect timing! I actually just went ice skating a couple of days ago with my mom and sister. I have roller skated before but was afraid to ice skate. It was not that bad actually. I fell several times, but never really hurt myself...except when I started getting a little more confident. I started to pick up speed. (I love going fast!) and then I tried to stop, crashing into the wall. I hurt my elbow, and it swoll up pretty good. Just as I am hoping that no one noticed the loud bang, I fell on the rink! There were a couple other girls that were figure skating. I just couldn't believe someone actually being able to do that. I was beginning to feel as though I was surrounded by graceful swans (even my mom, who was doing this for the first time, was doing awesome.) and i was a dying duck!
