I have I believe 3. I primarily only use 1 though. I found that different versions sometimes are worded a little differently and can sometimes help people to understand what is written better. I mean compare a King James Version to NIV and there is a huge difference.

SoL@R : Actually, it was just to see if I was crazy for having 3 bibles when I consider myself agnostic, yet still like to learn about people's faiths. This wasn't intended to be a competition of any sort.

I actually have one bible, despite being an atheist. I couldn't tell you what exactly it is, but I got it for free from some Jesus Freak a long time ago. It's somewhere around the house, I don't know where, and it has never been opened, but it's there in case I ever decide to be religious. Which probably won't happen.

thing1 :  Hence my statement that I saw that you never intended for this thread to go that direction  In all honesty, you being an agnostic, you are kind of crazy for having 3 bibles ;p  Agnostic = "I don't know if there's a God".  You have 3 reasons in your possession to know the answer to that question!

legacyme3 :  It's always difficult to judge the true emotion / tone behind written words, but I do sense a mocking vibe from your post: "some Jesus Freak..."  A year or so ago I would've found this remark extremely disrespectful and offensive, but since I got older and "wiser" I learnt the true nature of atheism.  Now comments like these doesn't shock or surprise me anymore since I do not in the slightest degree find the belief that all things came from nothing, threatening.  Saying that, it seems in my few years here at Vizzed from scanning through threads, that you are quite popular among the Vizzed crowd.  I only frequent Christian Conservatives and rarely comment in other areas, so I don't know you and others that do know you might testify that this is your manner of "lighthearted" posting and I'm making an unnecessary fuss about nothing.  If this is the case and I've "misunderstood" the tone of your post, I apologise, but just know that my "freaky" Christian faith is not about fairy tales, hating on homosexuals, atheists, unicorns etc.  It's about truth.  God's truth as He has given it to us in His Word and about loving people enough to care about their eternal destiny and salvation whether you believe it or not.  True Christians want everybody to go to heaven, that's why the Freak gave you a Bible in the first place since it contains the road map to everlasting life.  I truly and sincerely hope and pray you will find it, open it and read it sooner rather than later.  If you do, start with the book of John.
Here's a quote from famous atheist Penn Jillette regarding Christians sharing their faith, “I’ve always said that I don’t respect people who don’t proselytize. I don’t respect that at all. If you believe that there’s a heaven and a hell, and people could be going to hell or not getting eternal life, and you think that it’s not really worth telling them this because it would make it socially awkward—and atheists who think people shouldn’t proselytize and who say just leave me along and keep your religion to yourself—how much do you have to hate somebody to not proselytize? How much do you have to hate somebody to believe everlasting life is possible and not tell them that?...I mean, if I believed, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that a truck was coming at you, and you didn’t believe that truck was bearing down on you, there is a certain point where I tackle you. And this is more important than that.”

SoL@R :

It wasn't mocking in the slightest.

There are normal Christians and then there are Jesus Freaks. The difference lies with how overbearing they are and how much they shove your religion down your throat.

I was encountered by one of the overbearing shove down your throat types.

I haven't read this bible, but I grew up religious, so I more or less get the messages. I just don't believe. That's all there is to it.

I respect the belief though. It wasn't a mocking post. Light hearted sure, but all my posts are light hearted. I'm not about to change that, given it's who I am.

SoL@R : Well, the 3 bibles I have I have never bought. I have one that was my 9th or 10th birthday present from my Mom. Then I have another that was a graduation gift from a mentor's church that I would go to because they loved me volunteering for all of their events. The woman's group there got it for me. As for the 3rd, I can't remember where that one is from.

And finally... somebody that actually knows the difference between agnostics and atheists.

SoL@R :

If I am to be called a Jesus Freak, then I understand it is because I believe in the saving power of the death and resurrection of Jesus for those who believe, and if I am to be called a Christian, I'd rather be also called a Jesus Freak.

legacyme3 :  Thanks for clearing that up.  Just out of curiosity and I'm sorry for going off topic.  Could you give a real example of someone that shove religion down your throat, in your experience for example?  What did that person say to you?  It's a pity.  Not the way Christians should be going about things ala Westboro baptist church style who "hates" all non-Christians.  Christianity can and never should be forced on anyone.  We are advocates of Christ and will and should tell the truth, but always in love.  That truth being that if you continue lying, stealing, hating, lusting etc. you will end up in hell, but there is of course another way that will put you on the path of everlasting life.  The choice lies with you.  It is not forced, but it is a genuine concern for people that continue living sinful lives.  It does not for one second mean that Christians are better people, but they are better off.  We are all humans and still sin, but Christians do not dive head first into sin anymore since God has changed their heart, life, character, by His power.  Something you will only understand if and when you take Him seriously.  If you are lying asleep in your bed and your house is burning down, I would knock down your door, grab you by the leg(gy), arm, hair, wherever and drag you out of there.  Or if you walk blindfolded towards a cliff, I would scream and shout at you and eventually tackle you to keep you from going over the edge.  That is exactly what "radical" Christians are doing and for this Christians all over the world are mocked, hated and persecuted.  The world are asleep and has been blinded by the enemy (Satan) and they are quickly heading for eternal torment.  Christians are (should be) warning people of the coming judgment, because, like I said before, they want everyone to share in this gift of everlasting life which could only be obtained by recognizing that you have sinned against God, turning from that sin and believing that Jesus Christ has died for your sins on the cross.  The punishment that was meant for you, He took upon Himself and He paid the fine on your behalf.  He died on the cross and on the third day He rose from the dead so that anyone who trusts and confess that Jesus Christ is their savior and Lord WILL be granted everlasting life by God.  That's the gospel truth as they say.  (welcome to Christian Conservatives )

tRIUNE :  As I've mentioned, a few years ago, being called a "Jesus Freak" would not have sat well with me.  Now having a clearer understanding of things and realizing the urgency to "seek and save the lost" I would probably qualify as a Jesus Freak, being "radical" in sharing my faith so I totally agree with your post.

SoL@R :

I could go on for days, but that's not really up for discussion in this thread, it would get too offtopic.

It's also not a topic I care to talk much about, I have met a lot of extremely rude Christians/Jesus Freaks/etc that have potential to paint everyone else in a poor light. As I've gotten older, it hasn't gotten better either.

That's really all I'll say on the topic, since it has nothing to do with this thread.

My best guess would be between 7 and 10 bibles. I had an illustrated children's bible when I was 4 or 5. Than I had a 'The adventure Bible" NIV from 6 to about 13 would be my best guess. I than got a bible for teen guys bible for only a couple years until I read some of lee strobels books and decided to get a lee strobel study bible. After a while I just got tired of having so many Bibles with commentary by the distributor that I got an NASB leather cover that was pretty much just a bible without all of the other stuff. And it was crazy how small that book was without all the extra stuff in it that a lot of bibles have. There is almost more commentary than actual scripture. Anyway, I also have many Gideon pocket bibles around in which I keep one on me at all times, so yeah I have a lot.
