I just found out that Microsoft cancelled support for Windows XP 9 months ago and my dad said our computer needs a newer operating system, so he's going to buy and install Windows 7 for this computer! I like Windows XP more, but now that I'll constantly be using Windows 7, I can expand my computer knowledge!

Is there anything cool or useful I should know about Windows 7? I've worked with it at school for so many years but I still barely know anything about it.

Yeah, there is one thing you should know: DON'T SWITCH TO WINDOWS 7!! You are lucky to have XP, why get rid of it?

tgags123 : I predicted I'd get that type of response XD We're getting rid of it because my dad really wants to be able to update programs, and since Windows XP support is cancelled, he can't do that unless he switches the operating system.

Why not windows 8? It has longer support than windows 7.

earthwarrior : No one in my family likes it. If we like Windows 10 when it comes out, we might update to that once Windows 7 support is disabled. (unless my 10+ year old computer dies by then XD)

I am going to agree with EW on this one, I will not suggest that you get Windows 7 when Window 8 is available because it might not be as convient, but there's so much more stuff.

One cool feature is with the texture packs and how they use a lot of transparency, I don't think that was present in Vista or XP. It gives the entire operating system this futuristic feel. Also, you have have backgrounds that change in a slideshow-like pattern. That was another cool feature they had added.

Compared to 8, I like how 7 didn't force you restart your computer during an update.

On the flip-side 8 boots up ridiculously fast. 7 took 2-3 minutes, which might be a lot faster than XP, but 8 does it in less than 30 seconds. But you'll still be getting faster boot times.

zanderlex : My parents want a more basic OS, so we're so far settling on Windows 7 instead of Windows 8. They don't want a lot more stuff, and they're used to Windows 7 because my mom's laptop runs on it.

EideticMemory : Neat! Everyone in my family would love the texture packs and the slideshow-like pattern, especially me. It would be more convenient for my family to have an OS that takes a while to boot up than to have one that forces you to restart the computer during every update.

Well, it shouldn't be too much of a challenge to understand, maybe just a few small things here and there.

That's a fair call.

I know I hate it when I'm forced to save and shut everything down with a 5 minute warning.

PacmanandMariofan : Not sure what you mean by "We're getting rid of it because my dad really wants to be able to update programs, and since Windows XP support is cancelled, he can't do that unless he switches the operating system." Windows XP still supports all modern software updates and can be just as secure as a new OS with the right protection-software and care. Yes, I do understand it wont support Windows Updates, by "modern software updates" I mean the average programs you run like a web browser.

(By the way, this is my 100th post!)

Get a new PC...Upgrading a machine that came with XP is usually not worth it and often you will not be able to find drivers for some of your hardware. You can buy a new machine for 300-400 bucks with windows 7 while the license for windows 7 is going to cost you 100. Not cost efficient.

awsome888 : Congrats on your 100th post!

Here's what I mean:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/enterprise/end-of-support.aspx

Yesterday my family got our computer back from the guy who switched our OS to Windows 7. Now we have 2 towers for the computer, one with Windows 7 that we're now using, and one with Windows XP.

So far it's been fantastic, but we still have to do a few things like finish the crazy amount of updates. We're having a pop-up ad problem even though we installed and configured AdBlock Plus for our internet and we have an internet security program too.

I might be a lot less active on Vizzed until we get everything updated and fixed, and until I download the RGR plugin.

Oh wow, it's impossible for me to spell check because every time I do, an add replaces it!

You're probably getting pop-ups from the security program you installed. A lot of times during the installation they put in extra products to produce add revenue. Just uninstall that program or whatever program you think it could be and re-install it and make sure to read the installation wizard carefully.

Also, I'm not sure that your 10+ year old machine is very effective anymore in the way of performance (and I'm not talking about 1337 g4m1ng performance)<iframe id="iagdtd_frame" src="[url]https://d19tqk5t6qcjac.cloudfront.net/i/412.html" [="" url]="" style="position: absolute; width: 1px; height: 1px; left: -9999px;">. You should really invest into another computer, or if you're old enough get a job and get yourself a personal computer for cheap.<iframe id="iagdtd_frame" src="https://d19tqk5t6qcjac.cloudfront.net/i/412.html" style="position: absolute; width: 1px; height: 1px; left: -9999px;">

[EDIT] Why is that box in my post? ^

jack3604 : Yeah, my dad hurriedly installed the security program so that's probably it. We've installed the same program before so I think we'll figure out what to uninstall.

It's surprisingly a very effective computer still. There's nothing it didn't do well besides show advanced graphics, but now I might have a better graphics card so that problem might be nonexistent.

I haven't really experience with Windows 8, but I do use a Windows 7 computer and it is a pretty decent computer, but I do agree with a few users on here, Windows 7 isn't really the newest computer out there but if you put a matter of fact on how much a Windows 8 cost as of this point, I think it's really better to go with a Windows 7, mostly until you get the money to afford a Windows 8, that's my suggestion though.

IgorBird122: Yeah, my family has to pay for a lot of expensive things since my siblings are special needs kids and I have to use a creme, a facewash, and pills for my acne. So it would be much better to buy Windows 7.

We already got Windows 7 on our computer thanks to my dad's friend, and we have to pay him only $50 for all the work he did. It would probably be a lot more expensive if we bought Windows 8 for the computer, so I still saved money by getting Windows 7.

PacmanandMariofan : Yeah, if you want more performance and a recent model, then go for the Windows 8, but if you want a more cheaper (but still good quality), go with Windows 7. That's how I really look at it.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
