Since the middle of December I've been having issues with Firefox. Basically it randomly freezes for up to a minute and this sometimes happens as often as 10 times per an hour. When I kill the process, it sometimes takes a little while before it starts happening again but it's definitely not a solution to the problem.

It seems like ads trigger it but I'm not for certain yet. When I disable Javascript it seems to go away but you can't do very much on most sites without Javascript so that definitely isn't a good solution (some sites don't even work). I should point out that this happens to me on most sites.

Eventually I tested out Google Chrome and the same thing is happening with that which tells me it's probably something with my computer. I've ran virus scans with multiple programs (all of the best) and none of them have found anything. I'm now thinking that either a setting on my computer got triggered somehow or that I'm having hardware problems which would most likely be my graphics card.

It really slows me down in everything I do. Working on the site takes a lot longer and navigating the site can be a hassle.

Here's a list of things I've tried:
-Scanned computer for viruses with Norton, AVG, Webroot, and 1 other (can't remember which)
-Reinstalled Firefox
-Ran Firefox in Safe Mode
-Reset Firefox (which removes settings, addons, etc)
-Restarted Computer
-Ran Diagnostic Report with Norton
-Quite a few other things that I can't remember off the top of my head

Has anyone had a similar issue or have a suggestion on what could be wrong?

My first impression is to say that your computer may be overloaded, and just tripping over itself, because of how taxing it is to do even simple processes right now.

Clear it up, check if there are processes taking up too much of your CPU, and see if they are essential ones. If not, you may want to look into how it got there, and remove that.

It's a weird issue, not one I've personally experienced. I just use Google Chrome with adblock, and I rarely have problems with anything. When I do, it's usually because of flash, which I never upgraded because of the potential security risks in an older update. I'm wary now.

I haven't had completely similar issues, but I have noted that it seems only a certain number of vizzed tabs will load at a time. I normally could load 50 tabs if I wanted to... but not with vizzed. See, after not being on vizzed for awhile, I'll go through the new post list and open interesting threads in tabs. That way, they don't get moved off the page before I get around to responding to them. Then, I'll go through and respond to them in each tab.  (Not like writing without submitting and then 'tabbing' the responses. I write each one individually and submit it individually before moving on to the next thread.)

If I open 15-20ish tabs (I've never counted), they'll just stop loading. It doesn't matter how long I load... they will NOT load.  I can open tabs with other websites in the same window and have no issue, though.  I've thought in the past that maybe it was a precaution measure you've somehow put in place, if that's possible.  However, now you've got me thinking that something weird is up with it.

It can't be ads though, because they are disabled on my laptop.

legacyme3 : The thing is, I can do RAM and CPU intensive stuff just fine, like working with Adobe Premiere or Photoshop. Firefox doesn't actually take up a lot of RAM or CPU when I have these issues which is weird.

Singelli : That might be related to Vizzed security as a way to prevent possible DDoS attack.

Considering the information we got at the moment I got things I'd like to ask.

Did you try reinstalling Java by completely removing it from the PC, redownloading the most recent version from their website?

What is your OS and is it x86 or x64? (You can check that by right clicking Computer and selecting Properties)

Have you ran Malwarebytes on your machine? It's like an antivirus except it focuses on malwares and similar threats only and it goes farther than an antivirus, so I highly reccomend it. Free version is perfectly fine by the way.

Did you run any registry cleaners? I advise leaving that for last since I don't think your system is source of the issue, considering you said that you're having browser issues only. It's still worth a shot in case nothing else works, it's possible that it's a broken registry entry on the system. I personally recommend using Ccleaner for that. Like with Malwarebytes, the Free version is perfectly fine.

Hope that's enough help, I tried to be thorough but I barely have any time where I'm staying at this time, much less Internet availability sadly. Anyhow I'll let you know if I can think of something else.

Staff : Just letting you all know that I've finally fixed the problem I've been having for the past month+. I basically had to "Refresh" my computer which basically restores your computer to the factory default but keeps your files.

I should be able to get back to working on the site like usual again and most likely next week I'll begin going through my Private Messages and Notifications (I've been unable to do that due to this problem as mentioned previously).

I highly recommend refreshing your computer if you have any problems at all with it. Your computer will feel just as fast as it did when you got it and it'll fix any problems that came up after you got your computer. The only downside is that you have to reinstall all of your apps. More information on refreshing your PC here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc

Yeah, I had to do this a couple of times, but for mine, I did it so many times over time that it stopped working. Good to see that you can do more again, but don't try to do too much.

Davideo7 : It's kinda of a good thing that you have finally fix the issue you have been having for the past month. Although I never really use Firefox anymore since I started using Chrome because of the same thing basically. Having like way too much files on the computer at the same time can really slow down your internet connection, that's what I felt before my parents reset the computer and after they reset the computer, it makes a huge difference in speed and performance.

Nice to see you have solved all of your computer issues, slow computer isn't a good computer.

I used to use Firefox as my primary browser for Vizzed RGR up until about a year ago when there was a huge memory problem where all of a sudden Flash would take up a crazy amount of Ram/resources. Ever since I changed over to Chrome it hasn't been an issue.

Davideo7 : It mostly depends on what browser you're using, but since you said it affect all internet browser. Then all the files you have on the computer can also affect the performance as well, but you saying that deleting all those files didn't help. It might just be all about luck on having those issues fix mostly.
I have this happen to me quite often out of nowhere, and they can last a few minutes to as long as a few weeks, and I just had one like last week. So, yeah, sometime, the internet connection can have a mind of it's own.

It just got to the point where refreshing it worked less and less, like each time, 5 to 10% of the bad stiff was still left there, and after a couple months or so, each refresh would make it only half better. The computer itself was still pretty decent after each refresh, just not what it could have been.

Nothing beats a fresh install.

If you're like me and you end up installing a lot of stuff that you don't want to reinstall,  you can do things like clearing caches,  running a disk sweep to clean out some temp folders, and I dunno if anyone else keeps their computer on all the time like I do, but you can also restart when it starts getting like that.

In addition, there might be some scheduled tasks you are unaware of that cause slow downs. Anti virus programs tend to do this and believe it or not,  windows update will divert resources to itself in order to get you to install updates.

I guess I spoke too soon, it's happening again. I feel like I might be a little closer to figuring it out but we'll see.

I had the almost exact same problem! The freezing would last anywhere from 10-45 seconds and only when my browser was open. Even if it was just in the background.

It went away on its own the next nvidia update I had, so I guess it was the graphics card software for me.

Light Knight : I was kinda thinking that maybe it was something to do with my graphics card. I've looked into it already but I'm going to go ahead and look into it more.
