The newest Night at the Museum movie wasn't exactly what I had expected it to be but I really liked it, one of the best comedy movies that I have seen all year. I was really on the edge though about whether to see it or not for most of the weeks that had led up to its release, but about a few days before it came out, I agreed with my friends that we would see it on Christmas Day. Due to some random circumstances, we ended up seeing it on Christmas Eve and it was pretty good, definitely worth the price we paid though. I don't really know what I was supposed to be expecting since I haven't seen a movie in this series in years, but it turned out okay and I was able to enjoy the movie in general.

Story 8/10

The story pretty much starts off the same as the other movies in the series with Ben Stiller's character, Larry working as a night guard at the American Museum if Natural History, a place where all the exhibits come to life at night because of a magical tablet. The exhibits start acting crazy and it is learned that this is happening because the tablet is starting to die. Larry finds out that the answer to what is going on and how to fix it could be found at a museum in London, so he goes with his son and unexpectedly, a few other of the exhibits to the museum to figure out what to do.

When they first get to the museum, there are a few hilarious scenes that you can't stop laughing at, one of which involves the night guard of that museum and the other involves an exhibit from New York that looks exactly like Larry. Once they are on their way heading for the Egypt area, its just a blur of volcanoes, dinosaurs, and just hilarious and cool scenes. They run into Sir Lancelot who helps them a lot as they venture through the museum, but once they find out the problem with the tablet, he steals it and runs off. After an epic montage of clips, they get the tablet back and manage to fix it, but it is decided that the tablet would be left there, meaning that the exhibits would not come back to life anymore in New York. Larry kind of comes to terms with this and then leaves his position with the NY museum.

The movie had two scenes that I absolutely loved, the first one I will talk about is later in the movie near the end as they are trying to get the tablet back from Lancelot. He is trying to find Camelot and he ends up running to a theater production of Camelot and barges onto the stage. Its hilarious watching Lancelot think that it's actually Camelot, and it's just as hilarious to watch as he realizes it's just a play. Did I mention Hugh Jackman was in this scene? Just having him over any other actor made the scene even better. The next scene takes place a bit earlier as Lancelot is leading them to the Egypt area. A giant multi headed metal snake attacks them. Lancelot and Larry's son fight as the tablet dying caused the New York exhibits to be useless. This was one cool scene that I loved because Larry grabbed a defibrillator and did an awesome leap onto the snake as all the heads were going after him, killing it. All this doesn't even scratch the surface of what happened in the movie and might not even be close to the best for some viewers.

Cast 9/10

The cast was amazing, it's one of those movies where they pull together a bunch of top notch guys and have them do a movie together. First off we have the three big actors who are Ben Stiller, Robbin Williams, and Owen Wilson who have all starred in all three movies together. Stiller plays Larry, and I think he did a great job. I actually think he's in one of the best acting stints of his career, after his performance as Walter Mitty last year. I don't think he acts much lately, but he now does a great job each time, especially in this one. Next is Robbin Williams who plays as Theodore Roosevelt and is the second to last movie he has filmed before passing away. I loved his style for this movie and the way he portrayed Roosevelt and I don't think that any other actor could have done a better job with this role. Next is Owen Wilson playing Jebediah. Wilson is always great at making you laugh and that can't be more true as he plays a tiny wax man, and he plays his role perfectly.

The rest of the movie is just jammed with celebreties who all do great jobs with their roles. There's Ricky Gervais who has appeared in all 3 movies and many other TV shows and films, there's Ben Kingley, Hugh Jackman, Mickey Rooney, and many others who work together to make the movie amazing in terms of the acting.

Music 6/10

In terms of music, I didn't actually find anything to like in this movie. I don't remember if there even was any music because either there wasn't, or I just did not like it. Afterwards, I did manage to find a few songs that were in the movie and I just didn't really care for them aside for a few pretty decent pieces, but other than that I found the soundtrack to be pretty bland. I do in general like the music by the composer though, who is Alan Silvestri, who has done the music for Back to the Future, GI Joe, and the Avengers.

Graphics 9/10

The graphics were what had made the movie so enjoyable aside for the massive amount of comedy because it brought everything to life. Sure, most of the movie and exhibits were actually people in various costumes, but without all of the special effects, we would not have had living dinosaur skeletons, there wouldn't be a monkey, a volcano, or Jebadiah and Octavious. The graphics and effects are what brought the magic of the museum to life, and they were pretty good. They weren't stunning aside for a few scenes like the defibrillator one, but they were all very believable and made the story more realistic and fun to watch.

Overall 8/10

Overall, the movie had been really enjoyable and a lot of fun to watch. If you are a fan of any of those actors or liked one of the previous films in the series, you should watch it. This isn't the kind of movie though where I would say you HAVE to watch it in the theater to feel it's awesomeness. The movie will be just as good if you wait for it to come out on DVD or on TV, but you still have to see it at some point. My overall grade for Night at the Museum: Secrets of the Tomb will be an 8 out of 10, or a B.
