thenumberone : You really don't see the difference between a movie and a book? You're not actually seeing anything when you're reading a book when it comes to violence but with a movie, you usually see the violence and gore. Sometimes a newspaper can be pretty detailed about a crime or a murder that took place, does that make the newspaper for adults only? I'll agree that the Old Testament is probably PG-13 but there's no way the New Testament is even close to PG-13, I've read far worst books when I was in school.

Seriously, are you just trying to pick a fight? You hate the Bible and that's fine but leave those of us who do enjoy it alone. I already made it pretty clear that this isn't a direction vizzed is taking. I originally planned on adding this feature to mybiblegames.com but for many reasons I decided to add it to vizzed. This feature will not be part of the main navigation of the site.

bloodyb : The PHP script randomly generates a number each day you visit the site during those days.

thenumberone : Definitely dittoing what David said. Also, you're acting pretty incredibly. You are requesting tolerance of other's beliefs, yet are condemning David for acting within his. If this is how you are going to act, then it's probably best that you're claiming to be leaving. You're being hypocritical, getting upset at David for no reason worth mentioning, and are denying a Christian the right to share his beliefs.

Also, what gives you the right to decide how acceptable David's choices are? If David can't publicly show his beliefs, then you shouldn't be sharing yours.

I really do think this is a great idea; I don't think people will come to Vizzed just to read the Bible, but it's a good thing to let people read it if they don't own it. Considering you're going to expand on this by adding more and more features, it's a great way to study the bible. All in all, this is a neat idea~

Just wanted to quickly comment on this even though it might be a bit late.

I personally find this to be an interesting addition to the site despite me being an atheist. I have to say I did have a bad feeling when first reading the title of thread but I appreciate you not trying to show it down peoples throats at least by not adding it to the main navigation and thereby make the site head in a certain direction... Even though I still feel a bit cautious about it but I'm sure I'll get used to it. I'm sure many people will appreciate the feature since most people on here are Christians. I might even use it sometime in the future myself if I'm ever researching about religion.

Zlinqx : Definitely not too late to comment. Yeah it'll be pretty easy to avoid this feature completely and to forget it's even here. I definitely don't want to shove it down anyone's throat.

David, I would like to also request that feature you considered previously regarding 3 custom links added to the top bar. I really want to keep this easily accessible, but knowing myself I'll end up using a different version unless it's easy for me to access. Is that custom link idea feasible at this point?

Also, I generally use the ESV, do you know if that's public domain?

I contacted the company in charge of granting permission to use the New King James Version of the bible and they turned down my request. From what I understood, at the moment anyway, you can only purchase the rights to use it for print (study bible for example). This is unfortunate but definitely not something which will hold this feature back, there are still plenty of people out there who use the King James Version (the version which I'm currently using) as their primary version, I basically wanted the New King James Version since it would've been easier for users to understand.

They did give me a link to other Public Domain Bibles so I'd be willing to add any of them if enough users wanted them. Here's that link:
http://www.prayerscapes.com/Links/free_public_domain_bibles.html

mrfe : I'm not sure when the custom link feature will be added but I'll see about getting it added before this feature has a more official release.

It doesn't look like ESV is in the public domain but that's according to the website I was given, you could look more into it if you wanted.

Cool.

How will we be able to reach it though? Visiting the control panel?

I really like how you added it and how you can navigate it.

It is really convenient to use instead of having to find my hard copy.

How long do you think it'll be before it appears on the control panel?

Also, do you think you would be able to link it to the holy bible that we can buy in the item shop?

Barathemos : I'm not sure when I'll add it to the Control Panel but most likely after it has been officially released and is no longer in beta. So probably sometime in April.

I want it to be available to everyone even if they don't own the Bible accessory. However, I could maybe think of a way that the Bible accessory gives you extra features.

I'm flattered that you ask, but I'm actually not familiar with any of the versions listed on that page, so I'm not comfortable giving an opinion. The only one I even recognize is the ASV, and I still don't know much about it.

I bet

Could give a better and more informed opinion.

Singelli :

Man, that modern list is pretty slim. Based on the public domain modern Bibles list, the NHEB is the only one that seems solid based on the description, but it is the one that I have only heard of for the first time. The second would be the Bible in Basic English (BBE), but for those who may have a hard time in reading in English. (WEB) could be good, but we should ignore it for now since it is still in draft and they still are checking for edits. The CPDV I would not recommend because it only translates from the Latin Vulgate, which is not the original language.

As for the older versions, you can definitely include the ASV, which is just as literal as the KJV and follows the translating tradition of the KJV (Some may say it's the most literal), but it is made updated so that Americans who are not as familiar with British phrasings from the 1600, as well as being more updated than the KJV in terms of archaeological and textual advancements. Also, if it is not possible to get some of the solid modern Bibles like the ESV and the NASB, the ASV is the base of these modern Bibles, so it has its foundation. It is still just as hard to read. YLT and Webster are great contributions in translation history, but no one really use them nowadays.

Note that I would not recommend any of these to be used for Bible studying purposes, but if there are no other options, KJV and ASV are good second tier Bible versions for Bible study.

play4fun :  Thanks for the information. I actually was shocked at the size of the list, to be honest. I expected it to be humongous, so I was nervous when David asked me for an opinion.  When I opened the link and skimmed through it, I thought I had missed something at first.

What you've said about the ASV intrigues me though. I might start using GatewayBible to parallel the KJV with the ASV.

Singelli : I wasn't really shocked about the size, just more of what is on the list. Like I said, ASV is kinda like the American version of KJV, though I think there may be some poetic English that remains, but ESV, which is the one that I read, and NASB, which is the most literal modern version, stems back to ASV so it's definitely a vital one.

Sorry for late response.

Although I can't use the New King James version it its entirety, I'm pretty sure I can still use it for quoting purposes like this:
https://www.vizzed.com/bible/verse.php?b=1&c=1&v=1&tr=0&tg=128&tb=255&w=320&br=0&bg=0&bb=64

The copyright conditions I think allow quoting up to half of a book.

play4fun : Thanks for the info, this will be great for future reference. You seem to know alot about this kind of stuff, I'll definitely go to you for questions and feedback in the future.

Btw, why do you say that the King James Version isn't good for Bible Study?

I'm so sorry. I read this thread thinking OH GEE an easy online bible study fashion. That's what we need. So that folks like me who need to LEARN what little they know, but are willing to find Christ ion their life, and maybe a little salvation...I ain't sure. ALl I know is I need to find who I am with my faith. And this seems to be a very critical key. Can anyone help me with a little guidance of our lord?
mrfe :
and
Singelli :

have helped me tremendously, but maybe
Davideo7:
and possibly
play4fun:
could help?
Any help in my seeking answers would be greatly appeciated! After all, a book can only teach so much. I think good people who know what they know would help...

Davideo7 : Since I sit bored at work at night for half of my shift each night, are there any kinds of questions you are currently looking for in particular to be submitted? I may not be religious, but I still like to learn.

manicman66 :  You know I would adore helping you again.   I might not be all that active here anymore, but I can always make time for my friends.    Especially for such important matters!

And since I'm posting here anyways:

Davideo7 :  I haven't submitted any more questions because I've been meaning to ask you for some feedback.  I noticed that you didn't accept several of the questions and answers I submitted. Is this because you thought they were too hard, or did you think the answers were incorrect / debatable?  I don't mind whatever your reason.... I just want to know your reasons so I can write better questions.  I've had tons of ideas come up in my readings.
