Hi guys, today I have decided not to do a review, but a debate about whether the Wii is obsolete or not. Let's start!

Obsolete
A few reasons why the Wii is obsolete :

Nintendo Wifi Connection
As of May 2014, the Wifi Service has been terminated.
Since a lot of games used this feature, this makes Wifi
Tournaments impossible!

No More Games!
Nintendo has unofficially abandon the Wii, forcing
gamers to stick to the library of limited good games for it
including Super Paper Mario, Mario Party 8 and Kirby's Epic
Yarn.

Hacked Easily
The Wii can be hacked very easily which unfortunately is a sign
that the wii is obsolete.

Not Obsolete
Cheap Games
The games are particularly cheap especially here in Wales. The cheapest
I found was 56 pence in a ACTUAL STORE! This means most gamers still
use this compared to the Wii U.

Wiiware
Even though the Wifi Service was terminated, the Shop Channel wasn't, the Wiiware Option
on the wii offers a range of games all designed for the Wii. You can even play your old classics using
the Virtual Console option.

It think it's been obsolete for a while. Most people have upgraded to a wii u or another console by now.
The Wii was easily hackable before it became obsolete. Wii emulators and ISO's have been  out for years not.

realplayer109 : Although Nintendo has discontinued the Wi-Fi source, but it is still selling a couple games here and there, but it isn't 100% discontinued just yet (I see Nintendo 100% discontinue the Original Wii in 2015). By that time, Nintendo will more focus on the 3DS and the Wii U.

I guess it depends what your definition of obsolete is. But in general, as far as the gaming market goes, yeah, it's gone, just like the DS is gone, too. Nintendo has traded the Wii and DS in favor of the Wii U and 3DS. But I'm sure it still has a long life of people buying pre-owned games and consoles, and it will be played by many for many years to come. The PS2 is still one of the most owned and played consoles to this very day. 

Well personally to me the wii has been obsolete or dead since about 2012.

The Wii was obsolete when it was released to be totally honest. Its very much out of date now but that's not a bad thing, I am getting Wii games for a good price (much cheaper than ps3 games).

I have to agree with GenesisJunkie here... The problem is that the Wii had it's cool features, but was outdone by the 360 and PS3. The Wii was really a joke in many ways. The Xbox 360 was out longer than the Wii, but it came out with a cooler motion detection system.

Some reasons the Wii was obsolete when it was released: 

The Wii had terrible motion sensors. (Hold the Wiimote in the middle of the screen, without the Wii Motion Plus. It will go all over the place, even if you don't move a muscle.) 

The Wii had TERRIBLE graphics. (All games had sub-par graphics, check out The Force Unleashed for Wii.) 

Overall, the console was cool, it had an idea, but it failed on so many levels. The entire reason for the Wii U is to make up for Nintendo's failure.

(I do love the Nintendo games, and franchises. I'm not hating on Nintendo.)

Nintendo Wifi Connection:
There are good servers that are easy to get by modding your Wii. Easy peasy.

No More Games:
There are still people making custom homebrew games as well as massive full-sized mods.

Hacked Easily:
You should view this as a good thing. If Nintendo doesn't care about the Wii anymore, what's the harm in modding i?

Cheap Games:
Or you could get free mods because cheap games are mostly all crappy with a few exceptions. Wipeout on Wii is fun and cheap because it's not very well made and it a fun game to laugh at with your friends. Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii is a massive free mod for New Super Mario Bros. Wii that adds 13 or 14 new worlds with levels that have level design way better than the original.

Wiiware:
Has a couple good games. Virtual Console is obsolete because of emulator mods.

My conclusion:
The Wii may be obsolete to Nintendo, but not to the players who revive it with mods.

The fact that the Wii is hacked easily is pretty much the only reason that it's not completely obsolete. Pretty much the only reason to own one is so you can hack it, and to play certain Wii games with gamecube controllers.

I wouldn't say the wii is obsolete quite yet I mean sure the wifi connection's no longer around but the system still has plenty of awesome games plus it's super cheap in a few years time yeah the wii will be obsolete but for now I say no.
