They have been a lot of controversy related about the host city for the 2022 Winter Olympics, the issue is that no one wants to host these games. So far, the only two cities still have a potential bid for those games and they are Beijing, China, and Almaty, Kazakhstan; and both cities are possibly dropping out as well which means that the 2022 Winter Games could be cancelled due to no host city.

What are your thoughts about this 2022 Winter bid.

Someone who has already had it and who has a facility will pick it up.

My money is on Vancouver again.

Barathemos : Well, my bid could be Pyeongchang, South Korea because they will have the 2018 Winter Olympics (the Winter Olympics before 2022), so it might be them hosting it again in 2022.

Well, they select the city on July 31st, 2015 (always selects the city 7 years before the event), so we got another 8 months.

IgorBird122 : Is it too late for a country to make a bid? I was looking at the Wikipedia page, and from what I can see, it's too late. But, if nobody wants it, do you think they might open it up for "emergency" reasons?

thing1 : Base on what I know, what the IOC does, they normally use the last host city (so with this situation, they might use Pyeongchang in 2022), but we really don't know, we have to see what happens between now and in July 2015.

The Olympics have a way of bankrupting cities when they leave.  Towns and cities, especially winter wonderlands, build massive infrastructure to host the Olympics and end up having less than no money at the end of the thing.  It's so expensive now to host Olympic games most countries and cities are opting out of the option.  I haven't actively watched the Olympics in a twenty years because it's unwatchable.  Especially things like snowboarding and the new sports brought in to sexify (that is a word) the Olympics make it a sideshow now.

No one wants it because it doesn't do much to positively impact the host towns and cities.  Go back and read what happens to these places once the crowds leave.

warmaker : Sorry for the delayed respond, Although Athens, Greece is a pretty big city, but after the 2004 Olympics, it did tore that city up (well, that and their economic issues they always have recently). And also look what happened to Sochi after the 2014 Winter Olympics, after the event, it's basically now a ghost town.

I just want the Olympics to come to NYC already. Some things here were already built in the hopes that we would land it a few years ago but it was never meant to be, there are the venues for it, and there are some places to build more, so I just wish it would come here already. Maybe even at the MetLife area.

zanderlex : That's the same way I think with my hometown of New Orleans,LA. Although we have the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, but other than that, I don't think it can hold anything else though in the city, unless Houston, Texas gets it one year and maybe, just maybe they may use my hometown for one event or so. To tell you the truth, the only thing the Superdome has hold is the Super Bowl, and a bunch of other major sporting events, but that's mostly it.

Honestly, I think Seattle would be a good place for a Winter Olympics.

We have a few places for events, and we have an already decent enough economy to where it wouldn't crash after an Olympic games.
We have plenty of mountains over in the Snoqualmie area where there are plenty of events.
We have a minor league hockey team ( I think ) somewhere close by, so that covers hockey.

I mean, we have a few places that we could build on, so we could cover everything else.

As for what would we do with the venues after the Olympics? Turn it into a place to use for fun, or a museum. Seattle and the surrounding area has a bunch of museums.

I just wish that Barcelona would rectify and make a bid again for hosting the Winter Olympics. We have already hosted the Summer Olympics, and contrary to Athens, the city has grown up and is now an important place to host a wide variety of events. True, Winter Olympics are different, and the facilities which have to be built for them would not be used again, since wintersports in Spain aren't excessively followed.

Wishes and fantasies aside, I would only like the venues to be chosen for a reason different than the money they are going to invest, like happened with Sochi. Now that the IOC has approved for the Summer Olympics to be held in different countries at the same time, this rule could come into effect when choosing the venue for the 2022 Olympics. Maybe then a new and solid bid could be made to host them, between two cities that have all the facilities already built. Sorry, driven again by fantasy.

I have no information on this subject. May someone please explain to me why no one wants to host the Olympics later on? Is it simply too expensive? Politics getting in the way?
