I just want to be happy. Then when I see something like Clannad, Angel Beats, or the movie, 5 Centimeters Per Second, it always changes my mood to sad. Why is this world doing this to everybody?!

People make that sad stuff because it can make money. It makes money because people want to see it.

Why wouldn't people make sad stuff?  Sadness is an incredibly strong emotion and it's something humans may be the only species to experience.  It's powerful, it's wonderful, and it hurts and helps people deal with terrible loss in their life.  We should celebrate all emotions because without sadness or pain, joy and wonder become very average and boring.

People make sad stuff because they can control your emotions.  That's the strongest person in the world; one who can manipulate your feelings and get you to experience the emotions they want you to experience.  Sadness, anger, hurt, and others can all lead people to make decisions and change their lives both for the better or not.

Either way, it's an emotion.  There is no joy if there's no sadness.  Experience it, enjoy it, keep things moving.

Personally, I am not a fan of sadness in anything, but on the other hand, what variety could there be if everything always ended perfectly? I myself am not a fan, but I guess they figure that it keeps things somewhat interesting.

RMJEtheReploid : Um, why would you try to change what he said? Simply state your opinion, and respect that he has his own opinion. You claim that he doesn't know anything about animals, yet have you even done research on the feelings of animals? I've found that, more often than not, warmaker makes an effort to be educated before expressing facts. Next time, before you go calling people 'dingle dorfs', remember that they're entitled to their own opinions as well. If you think/know they're wrong, simply provide links to scientific studies that prove otherwise or share information from articles you've read. There are better ways to go about this...

Back on topic. I personally believe that people specifically sad stuff, because it makes the good times even more sweet. In many movies, there is some kind of tragedy or sad experience. However, when they finally come to terms with it and move on, it makes the end of the movie that much more rewarding.

I agree with warmaker in that people make sad things because humans experience sadness.

Catharsis is a real thing. When I tell people I like the movies Perks of Being a Wallflower and Requiem for a Dream (neither of which are family friendly films, by the way), they constantly respond that those are real downers. I just sort of laugh and shrug. Whatever film or work I am talking about, I respond that "It is my life." No, my aunt didn't abuse me as a child, and no, I am not heavily lost in drug culture, but I relate deeply to these struggles. Seeing someone tell a story of pain similar to my own validates my own pain, and makes me feel that I am not alone. If the story has any hope in it, it has the added benefit of making me feel like I can also rise above my own circumstances.

warmaker : Have you ever had a dog? My family's dog quite clearly expresses sadness when she is tied up and not allowed to participate with whatever my family is doing outside. If you're looking for outside resources I recommend this video and the section in this other article entitled "grief."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQCOHUXmEZg
http://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/episodes/echo-an-elephant-to-remember/elephant-emotions/4489/

Also, saying that you will disregard what someone says because of their age is disrespectful in the most basic way. People can learn from others regardless of age. I believe a basic sign of maturity is the level of respect we grant to those who disagree with us and even treat us poorly.

When something is sad, in moves us more than complacence happiness.

Equally, happiness is ever more rewarding when it is overcoming of great sorrow, or averting it.

As for Animals with emotions, I have seen animals with some very complex things happening with them. I am never sure if they are simple bio organic robots without a soul or also free willed beings only less complicated. But I do know whatever the case may be, they are much lower than humans and don't seem as complicated in many areas, probably lacking in major compartments, like how a car is kinda similar to an airplane, but an airplane has wings, granting it a whole new level of abilities the car will never achieve.

Some animals seem to personal to their owners and caring about them to be simple, nonfreewilled organisms to me.

I think animals may have spiritual feelings and emotions, ect, but I'm not 100%.

I sure loved some of the cats we had though.

We watch or read things often to make us feel emotion. Sadness is a powerful emotion, and thus will often be able to reach the audience's heart.

I enjoy a sad story, because I don't often feel happy or scared during a movie, but somehow, sadness can often make me feel something; I think most people escape into stories with the main purpose of feeling something.

Let's keep this civilized.

Sad movies/shows make you create a connection to characters and create more realistic characters.

BTW, you might want to watch the end of Angel Beats! again....that was a happy ending...I dunno why everyone thinks it was sad.
