Alright everyone most if not all of us, have played a fighter game in our lives. Some were amazing, some not so much. Some had amazing game play, other's made you want to break the controller. So my question to everyone is what was there most memorable fighter? It can be more than one if you have runner ups. My two are Mortal Kombat, because of the lore which got way better down the line, and the character design, the first time I saw Goro yikes. And my second is Marvel vs Capcom 2 because of the gameplay it can be either just button mashing, or a unique strategy, but either way it's so much fun.

I only really enjoy two fighting games, those two being Mortal Kombat and Super Smash Bros. Mortal Kombat is just FUN. I prefer the classic games, mostly UMK3 and Trilogy. I don't really know what it is about them, whether it be the awesome special moves, the bloody fatalities, or the character design. I love Super Smash Bros. because of how competitive it can become. It has really awesome combat, so fast paced.

Super Mega Man 568 : Awesome choices, have you tried Darkstalkers? From your recommendations I would think you may like the Darkstalkers games. They have them for PSX and MAME on this site. I played one last night on PSX, and it was amazing, it's quite random to, if you haven't tried it, try out BB Hood and win a match her randomness is amazing, I forgot how funny she was. All three games work to on the PSX, oh forgot to mention it's a trilogy as well. Mortal Kombat is amazing, I always loved that series, I grew up on that bad boy. I love Tekken 5 because it just has amazing controls and characters. The dragon ball z budokai games (Budokai 2 especially because of it's awesome story mode) They just play amazingly and I even like it better then tekken 5.

The tenkaichi series has my favourite fighter of all time, tenkaichi 3.
It's a Real 3-d fighter. You can go EVERYWHERE in the stage, it's completely destructable and totally captures the feel of dragon ball.

Hm sounds like a nostalgia thread. Well, I used to be da man at Tekken 2. I loved that game.  I wouldn't rest until I could do all of King's combo grapples. But Lee was my favorite character, Law ripoff though he be.

Hmm....that is a hard choice....I do have some. I would say street fighter 2 champion edition Gen version, and streets of rage 3. Also there's like mortal kombat 2. Though I was very bad at the game, I enjoyed myself. Then there tekken 2 whereas on the other hand there is dragon ball budokai tenkaichi 2 which I also love. And then soul calibur 3. There are so many choices...but, these are the ones I like to play the most. Even if I am good or bad at them. ^-^

My favorite for nostalgia is Soul Calibur, for the amount of service done for fans it's III, and V for gameplay; my favorite quality about the series is how focused they are on balancing out the characters, so that even if they do have tiers, anyone can still beat anyone, you just have to be good enough.

Leeland : Ah the classic Soul Series, I loved how they implemented the guest characters, if I'm not mistaken that series was the first to implement that. I first fell in love with that series during the dreamcast days I always used to rent that at blockbuster, before buying it. Wonderful series by the way.

BigDawgJohn : Yes you are correct for it's time it was very controversial, there were other games that were violent, but they were obscure titles. Mortal Kombat brought it into the lime light, and still to this day is quite violent. My belief is that games like GTA and such other violent games in one way or another hold thanks to MK for defining the violence within games.

I am a sincere fan of DBZ so I never take it for granted, not sure if you were around during the early 90's and late 90's, but there was a drought of DBZ fighting games in America, it was horrible. endings : Tekken is an amazing series, my friend actually made me aware of it, around Tekken 4. Once I realized how awesome it was I was hooked, I played 1-3 soon after, and wanted to learn all of Eddie's moves, then with 4 I wanted to learn all of Steve Fox's move set.

I would have to say that soul edge stood out the most for me.
It was like one the first sword based 3d fighting games I ever played, and to this day it is still a classic nostalgic rush for me.

To be completely honest with you, i really can't get into most fighting games. They just feel so similar and repetitive and after a while they get REALLY boring.

However, i do like Super Smash Brothers Brawl if just for the fact that it mixes platforming and fighting elements, which helps keep me interested.
