So apparently a few days ago, Mike Maulbeck, the developer of the game Paranautical Activity has essentially threatened the life of Steam Co-Founder Gabe Newell on Twitter. Of course, it most likely was one of those angry joking rants that often happen. However Valve had not been to fond of what was said and decided to pull the game off Steam.

This so called "riot" had begun when Steam had listed the game as an early access title instead of a full release. As a result of what had happened, the developer had resigned from Code Avarice, the makers of the game as well as from the video game industry as a whole.

At the moment, the rest of the team is attempting to get the game back on Steam. They have issued a public apology and have created a petition to bring the game back.

What are your thoughts? In this case, the developer had left the team, though do you think that people who do such actions should still be allowed to work in the industry? Do you think it was fair for Valve to pull the game out of distribution even after Maulbeck had left and should Code Avarice be given a second chance?

The offender has left, so there's no reason to punish the publisher when it no longer has any involvement with that guy. It'd seem really petty on Valve's end to exclude it at this point.

That said, Mr. Maulbeck should've known better. Threatening anybody's life is a no no. Sarcasm is largely lost over the internet, so even if he was joking, nobody would know. Just seems like a doofus move to me

I'm glad it was taken down. Death threats are no laughing matter.
Joking or not Valve made the right call. If he was mad about it, he should have contacted steam support in a mature manner and he could have got this small issue sorted. Instead he blew it for himself and the rest of the dev team.

MechaNento: Yoi think it was fair for them to take down the game still? Even though when they took the game down, had already quit, and the rest of the team had nothing to do with it?

I'm glad it got taken down. Death Threats are just pathetic,You can't just threaten Steam and not expect your game to be taken down

GlazedKitten : *GASP* How dare you offend a steam game. I do want to test this out since I like the genre but I would never get it from there.

The way I see it, he bit the hand that fed him. Steam.

So of course the hand stopped feeding him.

Unfortunately the rest of his team has to face the consequences of his actions.

I wouldn't mind if the game was brought back up. But I wouldn't feel particularly bad for them if it wasn't.
