I think it is passive-aggressive to show the number of dislikes a post gets but only show the people who like the post.  That enables people to criticize without committing to the conversation and it seems like a weak way to show someone you don't support their position.

I think the "dislikes" should be shown.  People should own up to making a click.  If we're taking the time to show the total number of dislikes, why not allow people to claim credit.  That may open up more conversation and encourage participation in the threads and forums.

I think this is a good idea. You could basically attack somebody, and nobody would be the wiser. I mean, even though Post Rating actually doesn't matter to most people, to some people, it does matter.

I think this that is actually a pretty good idea, and should definitely be looked into.

warmaker :

People are still going to pick on minorities though. . . just because they are a minority. And dislikes will be exchanged between users to no end. I sill like that better than the silent backstabbing though. But if you ask my opinion, downrating users in any way, or decideing what is unacceptable content is the mod's job.

not normal users.

A feature like this may bring pros (like what you said in your post) as well as cons, such as the ability to pinpoint certain users. That, in turn, may cause a lot of disagreements between members. I'm more cautious about the fact that Vizzed members can purposely abuse this, especially if someone were disliking every post made by a specific member just because member A doesn't like member B.

I think it is best to keep the dislikes anonymous.

If identities were to be shown for dislikes, that could lead to more outrage and arguments in the Vizzed community. It can also led to dislike spamming because one disliked another one's post/comment and that will just get things out of control. Besides, anyone can still try to back themselves up by posting on here. If they don't post to support their argument, then that is their loss. I agree with nreid1's last statement.

Personally, I don't think likes or dislikes should be public to begin with.

I mean, really, does anyone here have such an ego that they absolutely need to know who likes OR dislikes their comment?

Does it even matter?

I think likes and dislikes were a crap idea in the first place. Why bother to "rate" things if it's just a damn comment? Mods have the right to take it away if it's too offensive.

Honestly never cared for the idea much to begin with, It's just another way for "friends" to abuse a system. I mean i could give this thread a like but what would it achieve really. Besides perhaps warmaker's post rating going up by one and him maybe feeling a little happier or not caring (I guess he could be outraged but that would be weird)

Perhaps a less confrontational way would be to keep the person who disliked the thread anonymous because lets face it, Certain users on here get butt hurt by the smallest of things the last thing we need is another reason for them to get upset and curse everyone under the sun. And trust me there are a lot of users like that on this site.

But as i was going to say, Keep dislikes anonymous but make them have to type a reason into why they liked/disliked a post. It could be that simple. It would also be better if likes were anonymous as well because all it leads to is.. "I liked your post, so i am such a great friend, you should give me tp and post ratings back" or the typical "I just liked your post gee, Leave me alone" kind of responses.

i could write more of the same but that's the general gist of my opinion/

i don't really understand the whole like dislike system in general whenever i like and/or dislike a certain amount of postes it cancels out my selection and wont allow me to like or dislike anything for the rest of the day for example if i like three posts on the same thread all of sudden it will also dislike them at the same time and not allow me to change same dislikes if i dislike several posts all of sudden it takes away the dislikes and wont allow me to have the option for the rest of the day i think this is stupid why even give me the chance to like or dislike something if your just going to cancel it out

does this happen to anyone else?

warmaker : I can see what you mean on this, someone could just be angry at you and be giving a biased vote. The fact that you cannot see who, gives the spiteful users a chance to do that without being called out. Whereas, if you show their name, you could call them out and tell them to prove their rating. You would probably get fewer hate ratings.

yeah i don't really care that much, at least if its liked and its a walkthrough or something - you know its helpful. Dislikes can be constructive, but you would have to know why its disliked. I'd rather they just post "Hey I disliked this because _____"
