Local Mods : Ok I have no idea where this goes so can you please find me a place for this...

Ok now that I got that over with...
*Inhales and Exhales deeply*
Ok listen! LISTEN!
I mean read... Silly me...
No I am freaking cereals (serious) right now...
ITS MY HAIR I SHOULD BE IN CHARGE OF IT!

You see my mom likes my hair to be short.
Well I want my hair be pretty long, but she disagrees!
WHY CAN'T I MAKE THE DECISION?!
WHY!?

Like seriously its my pickles hair!
I DON'T TELL YOU TO HAVE SHORT OR LONG HAIR ITS YOUR HAIR DO WHATEVER YOU WANT, BUT DON'T INTERFERE WITH MY DECISIONS OF MY HAIR! ITS FREAKING ANNOYING!

(Angel VGMX: Oh boy he has the temper again...)
(Devil VGMX: Now what?!)
(Angel VGMX: IDK)
(Devil VGMX: I know, maybe we should ask other people what they think of VideogamemanX's thread)
(Angel VGMX: Good idea!)

I mean its your hair I can do whatever I want to with it!
NO ONE SHOULD BE IN CHARGE OF MY HAIR NOT EVEN MY FAMILY, NO ONE EXCEPT ME!
*Takes chill pills*

Ok as you can see I was discussing that I should be in charge of my hair, no one, but me!
So my Mom hates if my hair is long, excuse me shouldn't that be my decision!?
What if for example, I have to talk to my dad for her, well that would be unfair, why can't she talk to my dad.
Actually scratch that, what if I told her to cut her hair short, of course that wouldn't look pretty, but let me tell you she CONTROLS MY HAIR AND I WON'T BE ABLE TO HAVE CONTROL OF IT AGAIN UNTIL I HAVE MY OWN HOUSE!

While my mom is very nice and fair, she just gets really out of hand with this one...
Please help, tell me what I should do to convince her at least...

I think while you're 14 and living under her household, she does truly have the right to tell you what to do. However, I think parents sometimes forget that they need to respect their children, and this includes listening to and considering their ideas and wants.

Have you tried having a calm, respectful conversation with her about it?  Just as she ought to respect you, you ought to respect her.  If you only get defensive and angry when discussing it with her, no ground will ever be made, and tensions will just build.

Otherwise.... well, that's something you can look forward to when you turn 18?    (I'm teasing...., but it's true.)

Singelli :  That is some good advice I shall have to try hard to find something to add.

First off let me say I feel your pain Videogameman.  When I lived with my father and step-mother they tried to tell me how to dress, how to wear my hair, what games I could play, who I could hang out with, let's just say they were a little too controlling.  I know that stuff like that just really will make you mad.  Now i'm not condoning this but you know what I did.  I would pack the clothes I wanted to wear and change on the way to the bus stop.  Now in your case I don't think you Mom is being quite that bad, it seems you two are just butting heads over this particular issue.  And while I agree with Singelli to an extent, that while they are providing all your needs and you live with them and are still (i'm sure they see it this way) their little baby, they have some obligation to make sure you aren't making any negative statements to the world with your hairstyle.  At the same time though someone at your age wishes to develop their own place in the world and style is part of that.

I totally agree with Singelli in that you should try to have a completely rational discussion with your Mom and try to come to some sort of compromise.  Maybe get a stylist magazine and sit down with her and try to come up with something you can both live with.

VideogamemanX :

It's your body, but I don't recommend that you stab yourself.

Your parents I perceive are just looking out for what's best for you. They're lived a lot longer and have more experience. I believe it actually says somewhere in the Bible that it's an abomination for a man to have long hair, unless it is for a Nazarene covenant.

But really? You're a guy. I would be surprised that you want long hair.

Consider this. Your parents dressed you up since you were a little boy. They chose your clothes for you and made you look nice and presentable to other humans. fashion is essentially something that we are taught.

What if you wanted to walk around with duck tape on the left side of you're face everywhere?

Would you let your child do that?

Or tape it in goofey faces?

Yes, even your appearance, and your body is to be monitored by your parents. And remember! They do it for your own good. By obeying them, you'll win respect from your elders, and they will talk about how you don't do all the stuff that other people do just to fit in or be cool. As of such, they'll teach you things, more things cause you already listened to what they already told you was good.

Where would we be without our parents?

Probably homeless, without a job and starving.

I would not let my son have long hair cause it looks bad. He might not think that it looks bad. . . his friends may not think that it looks bad. But that's the teenage years for you. Lots of teens going through your age often want to do things that really just mess their bodies up, like get tatooes, ect.

It all just makes them look bad, and they often regret it later in life.

Even short term choices like long hair tell people about you. Are you rebelious? Are you well kempt and under your parents? Are you respectful? Do you fight authority alot? Do you pay them respect? Or bad mouth them behind their back.

There is a place and a time to talk about authorities being incorrect, but I don't think that this is one of them. Plus you should do so with great respect if you need to compare opinions or bring up an issue.

In the end, it looks disorderly, and hurts you in the eyes of teachers, principals, and kills you in those crucial times like job interviews where appearance is very important.

"But people know not to judge based on what someone looks like!"

Wrong.

The clothes someone wears tells you the lifestyle they live very much. Women with high cut dresses are trying to turn heads more than a girl in a short dress. A guy with a beard sitting on the corner of a street with holey jeans probably just doesn't have the stuff to take care of him. That's why his jeans are worn down and he has a beard.

And. . . hey. Sometimes. . . people don't have a job. . . because. . . . they can't keep a job.

A young man with short hair and a nice clean shirt walks into my store wanting a job?

Hmmm. This teen may do.

A young man with long hair walks in? Uhhh, customers may not like that.

It's psychology. It's order verses chaos. And long hair, quite naturally, doesn't really look good on guys. Short hair shows you take care of it. You can afford to take care of it. Take my advice.

VGM...
I kinda agree with you, but I kinda don't..

It is your hair, but your mother is trying to do the best. But you have the rights to have it long. Try to tell her calm that you don't want short hair.
(Oh, and tell her that longer hair is warmer, if you brush your hair. )

I once wanted long hair hen I was young, and when I had the hair...
After 2 months I had let my mom cut the hair to short again. I hated my long hair, as I didn't take care about it.
I obviously need to take care of my hair now, it's starting to get long again...

Let me tell you: having long hair takes a lot of time to prepare yourself to go somewhere, longer then short hair.
So yeah.

Also, using chat's censor eh?
You kinda cursed in the thread, but you should remove the pickles in the title, in my opinion, it's kinda inappropriate to curse in the thread title.

Well, first of all, your parents are your parents after all, so they have the right to decide certain things.
Has your mom told why she doesn't like it? I mean, parents have to explain their choices.
Second, I'm not sure how and when you've talked with your mom about it. If you take it this seriously I would have a long conversation with her why you want it and what your reasons are.
I would say to your mom that they should respect that you are allowed to make decisions about your own hair and body (unless it's dangerous like stabbing yourself or something else) and that it's your hair that you and your mom are talking about, not her hair.

Singelli brought up a good point. I remember a long time ago when my mom didn't like me being a tomboy and dressing in guy colors (black, white, blue, gray, and etc) and she didn't really like me for not acting like a typical girly girl or a "normal" girl from her eyes. I remember telling her that I want to dress and act the way that I want to be. It took her a while to get used to my choices. She still jokes about my clothing style and the way I act but she respects me on what I really am.

A calm conversation really does go a long way instead of arguing and yelling about it. It is better to be comfortable in yourself rather than being forced to do stuff.

Let's be honest here It is only hair. I am pretty sure that just because your parents like you to have your hairstyle a certain way that it is not the end of the world, Heck if they pay for it why even complain, I would love to get free haircuts simply because someone did not like my hair growing long etc.

I think you are just over reacting and are perhaps just being a typical teenager that wants a bit of independence from their parents.

At the end of the day just get a haircut, You have plenty of years after you move out to do whatever you want with your hair. It is not like the ninja hairdressers are on a mission to stop you having a hairstyle you want after all

Singelli said it all, and I agree 100%. Parents should give their kids SOME room for expression, but in the end, you are 14 living in their house, and they are your parents. So it's up to them.

On a side note, I think you'll be a good writer, you seem to have a little bit of a knack for it,  I chuckled at the Angel and Devil part. (Though less allcaps please)

What is pickle hair? Is it like your hair smells like pickled stuff? Or does shape your head in such a way that you look like a pickle. I was once told my friend who hated cutting his hair and beard so one day, I asked him if I were to pay you everyday to never again cut your hair, or shave your beard. He said I would love to try, but he had tosomewhat trim it for work. So I must ask, hypothetically speaking if someone came to you, saying the samething I said earlier? Would you do it? Or at least attempt it?

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
