My favorite battle system has to be in final fantasy vii! I love the materia system that gives you limitless capabilities and the level system was always a smash hit for me! Level 99 was never high enough for me, tho!

I like the battle system in Final Fantasy XII, though, of the more traditional ones, I like FFX...I liked the more strategic nature of it, in that you could see what was coming and plan for it...it was easily clear who was getting the next attack and there were no "hope" moments of "god, I hope my character gets to use that healing spell before the enemy attacks"...you KNEW if that would happen because of the turn-order icons in the top corner of the screen...

FFX series (FFX~FFX-2).
What vikdeath said, but I like that status system because you can slow the enemies down or speed up your own characters in case you're in a rush to finish the game before you leave.

FFT series for me

One of the more strategic ones plus the height of the ground you were on played a role in it especially if you were an archer.

I would have to go with FFVII's system. The materia makes it pretty awesome, so every character can use magic, which is great if your main magic user is unavailable.

I liked VIII's battle system it applied alot more gameplay to get stronger rather than just level up and be done with it.

I absolutely love X's. Turned based is probably the absolute best for me (one reasons I loved the original so much), and X took it and ran with it. Was never really a big fan of the ones where you had to wait for a bar to charge up to attack, and it was somewhat real time without being real time(XII) which I don't really like. Either pure real time or turned based is what makes me enjoy a RPG most. I was hoping for the same battle system in X2, but alas, they brought back jobs. I eventually came to enjoy it, but I'll always like X's better. On a side note, anyone nervous about XIII's? Looks a bit edgy to me...... I really wish they'd just go back to turn based.

FFVII's materia system is great. I like to match materia with characters personalities, it's a great system because you can roleplay with it. One combo that's super awesome... (Final Attack)><(Phoenix)! The one thing that irritates me though is how your ultimate weapons have zero materia growth. It should be triple.

Actually make that quadruple.

If FFVII ever sees a remake I hope the battle system stays intact (with all new materia of course).

I also like VIII because it's so unique.

Can't wait to see how FFXIII's system plays out.

My favourite is the one of FFXIII. It's just action-packed and tactical at the same time. Not to mention it's challenging without being too gruelling (which is something that FF battle systems usually fail to accomplish).

I wish I could go against the grain to make some decent conversation, but I've gotta hand it to ten. The strategy you could employ with that predictable turn-set visible gave the game a whole new level of depth when it came to combat. It helps that I managed to COMPLETELY fail to realize it existed until the second or third boss fight.
