Davideo7 : Still, you would have to go all out every single day. I think I scored only 3 or so points in green in the first 5 or 6 days,so green had little effect.

Also, at the moment, everyone knows that I have no home internet, so I have to travel an hour to and from school to come on. From the 11th to the 20th I will have data, so I will be on all day at home that week.

By the end of the 14th, I can see myself with another 10 point lead. Hopefully 150 or more points.

On the topic of why I think traffic is down, I honestly have no clue. There's nothing about the site that is "wrong", and with how many users we have, it doesn't make a ton of sense.

I think it's just that the most active users now are not as active as the most active users back then.

I checked wayback for an answer.

The only day that had data was December 2012. (I think it wasn't a TDV month.)

There are two users with 500 posts in the past 30 days (zanderlex and thing1), and there was only one user with 500+ posts in December 2012... (Singelli)

I had 173 posts in December 2012, though, and I have 169 posts in the past 30 days. So I am a good benchmark.

In the past 30 days, I'm the 10th ranked user (which surprises me, I should be nowhere near the top 10.).

In December 2012, I was the 19th (which was more accurate of where I belong at this time in place).

That means that the requirements to be top 10 has gone down. Vizzed is top heavy in activity, with only 3-4 members accounting for a bulk of the posting (Two of which are moderators, and new ones to boot). Back in December 2012, you had no one "carrying" the site in activity (Singelli not withstanding), but you had a reliable group of 10 or so posters who wanted to be active.

I wish Wayback had more results, because I'd like to see the drop off over time and it could tell us more, contextually.

But if I were to guess, it's a less dedicated memberbase.

legacyme3 : It's not as if all of my replies have been small, plus I've had a lot of users reply to me in this thread so I've been trying to respond to them.

Another reason could be the fact that I have a lot of competition now. Years ago there weren't many sites that allowed you to play retro games online, now days there are a ton. I guess I need to focus on expanding the site in a new direction soon, a direction that very few (if any) sites have gone to. I've got lots of innovative ideas (a few of them no other site has) but it's just a matter of finding the time to bring them to life.

legacyme3 : I mean when i am in the top ten it is a bit weird as well let us be honest. I am pretty unknown when it comes to posting.. Though it does amuse me to see that I'm one of the users that was quite high up in both lists.. 

Another random thing is that at the end of 2012 all 4 globals were in the top 50 posters for the month, In the last 30 days only 1 out of 3 is. 

It could simply be that forums in general are seeing less traffic.... that's always a possibility.

Either way if i was not so tired i would like to see how many of the people in the top 50 posters in December 2012 are still active today.. It might make for some interesting statistics.

Competition may be a factor too, but that doesn't really account much for the activity that "was" here to begin with. I know some people just get tired of forums, and that's fair.

But so many people have just completely disappeared and not been replaced within the community. When you lose such hyperactivity, it's hard to replace it (and in some cases, nigh impossible)

I don't think Vizzed needs to add all that much honestly. That's not to say it can't be improved (anything can be), but the basics are there, and many of the best places on the internet just keep it simple.

I'm bored, so I decided to look at your request. (Users in the top 50 of Dec. 2012 who are active today)

For the sake of this exercise, I determine "active" as having made 10 or so posts in the past month.

Here's a list of notable users from December 2012 who are not "active" in the past month (Dec 2012 post count in parenthesis): Destifen (342), zelda2 (336), DwarvenKnuckleBuster (298, new member), Crazy Li (250), skippercapt (223), speedy gonzalez (190), austipokedude (176), Eddy88 (169), ender44 (145), MegaRevolution1 (144), Mother3Fan5 (123), KG (100), Lazlo Falconi (78), soxfan849 (76), silverthundr (73) and a dozen other users outside of that who posted 70+ posts.

Of the top 50 from December 2012, 22 of them reach the level of "active" (that is to say, 10 posts in the past 30 days), and a further 8 or 9 are still on the site, but post less than 10 times in a month now. The point being that they are no longer invested in the forum side of the community.

It's actually surprising to find that close to half the top posters from December 2012 are still active in some way, shape, or form.

Activity might have changed... users might have gone.... but I honestly think that the site's quality, atmosphere, and sense of community has majorly, majorly improved.

I'd rather have a slightly less active and great community....
Than an extremely active one that fosters ill feelings.

But then again, I'm not looking to the site for income, like David is.

Shouldn't this conversation be branched off into its own thread?

School Work has been keeping me busy which is the main reason I haven't been able to participate as much as I'd like in the TdV hopefully I should be able to compete more starting this weekend though.
