dcpenguin :

"Maybe it should be validated by weight instead of age": That's just as unreasonable. I myself am significantly underweight. Does that mean I can never use a gun, even if I'm intelligent enough and perfectly capable of handling it?

"At least 200 lbs": Most people are under 200 lbs. This would mean only the incredibly muscular and the obese would be allowed to use an Uzi.

"I'm gonna blame the restaurant": Nobody needs to be blamed. The fact that you choose to blame them does not make them guilty of anything.

"I don't care if it is a legal organization, SOMEBODY should be getting sued.": Then it would be a frivolous lawsuit. The whole point of a lawsuit is to gain compensation when somebody does something illegal. Also, the fact that you don't even know who should be getting sued further demonstrates the fact that no lawsuit is necessary.

Watch the liberals say "DIS IZ Y NO GUNZ", this was the parents fault, if they would've thought "Hey, giving a kid a full auto gun that weighs 60 lbs, MIGHT be a bad idea..." Now that I think of it, she must've been a super 9 year old to even hold that, do you know how heavy 60 pounds is? That's 60 pints of beer, how could a 9 year old possibly hold that? I honestly think this is bulls***...

dcpenguin : Our country already has a problem with frivolous lawsuits where everybody is trying to sue somebody for a quick buck. Did you know a company that sells gasoline canisters went out of business because they kept getting sued by idiots who got hurt playing with them and fire? The only people who were affected by this are the little girl and the family of the guy who died. The blame for the incident falls on the guy who died because he's the safety guy there. The dead guy's family has no room to sue because he knew what the job was and took it voluntarily. The girls family might be able to sue the restaurant claiming the girl was traumatized and the instructor they hired is to blame for incompetence but that seems greedy if she's not all that bad.

Light Knight : Wow, this story has gained some popularity. It's even reached the attention of NBC News. Or Fox News. Either one, I don't care. It's now a popular story, even the creator of Slenderman has said sorry to the victim. But, that was during the recovery. And when the story was popular in only Milwaukee.

Vincent1875 :
A gun may be necessary in alaska, but not in new york city. States should use common sense to set regulations for junior gun use.
Much like motorbikes in this country (uk, whereby you are limited to engine power by age), I think guns should be categorised, with automatic weapons out of reach until over a set age.

Thebiguglyalien :
I disagree (the point of lawsuits). There are plenty of cases where people have sued on principal rather than money. If that gun range was found guilty, it would open up more potential cases, and other establishments would take measures to try to protect their interests.

Cradily is love :
AN uzi is nowhere near 60 pounds. UZi's are lightweight compact machinepistols.
And I dont think anyone here has said no guns (or, gunz...).

thenumberone : I know, nobody here said it, but I'm sure numerous liberals or anti gun activists are using this as an argument, and I remember reading numerous articles saying the Uzi was around 60 pounds, but IDK. :/

I cannot begin to stress how unnecessary guns are. They are weapons designed to harm or kill. The fact that they are not only welcomed in society, but encouraged to a degree is absolutely insane. I have had many long intense debates with gun happies about how absurd and ridiculous gun laws are and how they do significantly more damage than they do help.

Think about this, if your child grows up in a house where guns are hung on the walls and in the closets and in peoples pockets; whereever  it is people keep their guns, the child is going to be exposed to them and gain a sense that they are acceptable. Having been exposed to guns at a young age, the child is significantly more likely to own one themselves and therefore use one at some point in their life. If the gun was never exposed to the child at a young age, and if the guns werent around, there is a good chance they wouldnt ever use a gun. So therefore, if guns werent around, crime and death rates would drop.

Now, Im not saying take the guns out of the hands of the police, but take the guns out of the hands of the general public and get rid of gun shops. Its trouble waiting to happen.

bobq : The fundamental problem with that is that guns are not only incredibly useful survival tools but they're necessary to be "independent." The notion that if someone is attacking your home or family, and the only option available to you is to wait for the police to arrive and save you is terrifying to many people. Not too long ago I remember hearing about a woman calling the police because her ex boyfriend was trying to break into her house. The police operator woman told her that there were no officers available and the guy ended up breaking in and raping her. Having a gun gives one the power to protect themselves in a proactive manner instead of reactively having to rely on others. Sure, gun laws could be better but I don't think getting rid of them is the answer.

I feel that first, like many of the opinions, 9 year olds should not be handling automatic weapons or for the majority of children, weapons of any kind. Also to expect a child to handle an automatic weapon perfectly when most likely the child never held a gun before or was not informed on the dangers, principles of guns, or the safety for those around or in the area.

I know this is old news, but I need to respond.

Many of you think that the Uzi is to blame. That is not the case at all. It is the IDIOCY of the parents and the instructor that caused this to happen. Seriously, who the heck thought it would be a good idea to give a 9 year old a 60-pound automatic gun with lots of recoil? I can see giving her a small gun like a handgun or something, but an Uzi? There is nothing wrong with teaching a young girl to shoot a gun. Just make sure it's one she can handle.

Damn, I couldn't imagine that of a 9 year old shooting a man by accident. They shouldn't have let her use a gun, much less an UZI. They shouldn't have allowed her.

tgags123 : I agree, it's like when people say guns don't kill people, people do. With addition to the parents idiocy and poor judgement, it was also the instructor's fault to an extent be giving the girl such a powerful gun without any issues with the situation.
