thing1 : This does not sound right to me.

You said you would go by predicted score differential to actual score differential. This is a good idea but I think it should go by who came the closest to guessing the actual score. Going by your example, if MattyIce guessed 35-26 and you guessed 21-17 and the actual outcome was 35-29, then MattyIce would win because he actually guessed one of the scores. Technically, he was off the actual score by only 3 points but you were off by a total of 26 points (14+12). This makes more sense to me because it is how I guess the outcome of a tiebreaker. I'm not guessing what the score differential between the two teams will be; I am just guessing what the overall score is going to be.

MattyIce : I would like to know what you think about this as well.

thing1 : The object of the tiebreaker is to Guess the Actual Score.

Game 1
Player 1 guesses the score will be 7-0
Player 2 guesses the score will be 14-7
The actual score is 21-14
Player 2 wins because his score is closer to the actual score.

Game 2
Player 1 guesses the score will be 13-10
Player 2 guesses the score will be 16-13
The actual score is 16-10
Player 1 wins because neither of his scores exceed the actual
score. Even though Player 2 guessed one of the scores (16) his
other score exceeded the actual score (13 is more than 10).

Game 3
Player 1 guesses the score will be 28-21
Player 2 guesses the score will be 30-21
The actual score is 35-21
Player 2 wins because his score is closer to the actual score
than that of Player 1.

Kruzer : Game 2 Confuses me. They both correctly guess one of the 2 scores. They both predicted a 3 point difference, where the actual difference was 6 points. Shouldn't player 2 win since he correctly guessed the winning team's score?

Kruzer :
thing1 :

It will be obviously somewhat difficult to explain the rules come playoff time. I hate to side with my brother on this, but his method is more of what I was thinking about doing. The goal would be whoever gets closer to the COMBINED score. Here is how I would rule the examples that Kruzer gave:

GAME 1
Player 2 would win. I think that one is sort of obvious. Player 1 combined score is 7, Player 2 combined score is 21, the actual score is 35. Like I said...obvious.

GAME 2
It would be a tie, because both players correctly guessed one score, and were both off 3 points on the other score. It does NOT matter if you exceed the actual score. Player 2 was still off by 3 points, even though he guessed 13 and the actual score was 10. The bottom line is, Player 1 combined score is 23, Player 2 combined score is 29, the actual score is 26, therefore it is a tie. I'm not sure what we'll do in the case of a tie in the playoffs, so for right now lets just hope it won't happen.

GAME 3
Player 2 would win. Player 1 combined score is 49, Player 2 combined score is 51, the actual combined score is 56. Player 1 is off by 7 points, Player 2 is off by 5 points...Player 2 wins.

I think this method would be easier and less confusing. The only thing to figure out would be what would happen in the event of a tie. However, Caleb's idea of Player 2 winning in Game 2 because he correctly guessed the winning team's score does sound good. Maybe whoever is closer to the winning team's score could be the tiebreaker. As I said before, I don't think it should matter if you're OVER the score. You automatically lose if you exceed the actual score? That just doesn't make any sense to me.

What do you guys think of that?

MattyIce : Yes, this is how I thought the playoffs were going to work. However, the problem seems to be in a case like Game 2, where my example was to suggest that both players were to predict the exact score for at least one team. But, as thing1 pointed out, if a Player predicts the score for the team that wins then that Player should win the tiebreaker (in my Game 2 example would be Player 2). I can agree with this since it would in fact break the tiebreaker.

Game 2
Player 1 guesses the Home Team wins 13-10
Player 2 guesses the Home Team wins 16-13
The actual score is the Home Team wins 16-10

So, Player 1 guessed the exact score for the Away Team
and Player 2 guessed the exact score for the Home Team.

Since each Player was able to guess at least one exact score, and the score differentials are the same, then the tiebreaker goes to the Player who predicts the score for the team that won, which is Player 2.

thing1 : you were right before (in my opinion). I guess I miss read your post.. probably cause I was half-asleep anyway

MattyIce :
Kruzer :

I have an issue with the COMBINED score. What if somebody guesses 56 - 0, other person guesses 30 - 26, the actual score is 35 - 21? Who wins? They both guessed a total score of 56. They were both off by 0 for the total score. Doesn't seem right. However, if we do my way, the second person would win. The first player guessed a 56 score difference. The 2nd player guessed a 4 point difference. The actual different was 14. Player 2 is closer to the actual difference, so player 2 would win. If we need a tie breaker, because they both guessed the same difference, then whoever is closer to the Winner's Score would win.
Remember, this is only if both players finish a playoff week with the same record, and the tie breaker game had both players guess it correctly, or guess it incorrectly.

thing1 : If Player 1 predicts 56-0 and Player 2 predicts 30-26 and the actual score is 35-21? Yes, Player 2 would win but not just by a score differential because he is obviously closer to the actual score than Player 1. You should be looking at it like this:

Home-Away
Player 1 predicts 56-0
Player 2 predicts 30-26
Actual score is    35-21
Player 1 is off the actual Home-Away score by 21-21
Player 2 is off the actual Home-Away score by  5-5

If you are only going by the predicted score differential to actual score differential, then you would have a game like the one you posted first where you predict 21-17 and MattyIce predicts 35-26 and the actual score is 35-29 and you would win even though MattyIce's score is obviously closer to the actual score than you.

Also, there is another case that I should address which is similar to my Game 3 example that I posted earlier. Here it is:

Game 3
Player 1 predicts the score will be 28-21
Player 2 predicts the score will be 30-21
The actual score is 29-21

Since each Player was able to predict at least one exact score, and the predicted score differentials are both 1 point away from the actual score differential anyway (Player 1 [7 points], Player 2 [9 points], Actual score [8 points], in which case I think we should rule in the exceeded score rule but if we do not), then the tiebreaker would have to come from another separate source. Maybe we could also ask the Players to tell us how many turnovers there will be for each team in that game (in addition to the predicted score, of course). However, this could also end in a tie, in which we could ask specifically how many fumbles/interceptions there will be for each team. Unfortunately, no matter what you do you will always be making more tiebreakers to break other tiebreakers. That is why I say we should rule in the exceeded score rule in this case only so that we do not have to keep making tiebreaker after tiebreaker. (exhausted, lol).

Player 2 predicts 30-26

Player 1 is off the actual Home-Away score by 21-21
Player 2 is off the actual Home-Away score by  5-5

Kruzer : No. No Turnovers. That is taking it too far. I'll talk with MattyIce on Monday, but more than likely, it will with what I have been saying, and not yours. I see too many flaws in your idea. MattyIce should win in your scenario because is closer to the actual score than me.

thing1 : I see what you are doing. You are using the same method as the Fantasy Football stuff that ESPN does online. But that is not what we have been doing from the start. We have been doing a Pigskin Pick'em like game that is also found on ESPN.com and they do not use the same method as Fantasy Football. If you wanted to do a predicted score differential to actual score differential, then why did we not start doing that from the beginning?

There is a LOT of people who have the same picks again this week. This is very interesting...

Caleb, that's what makes it interesting. If it played out knowing you knew it would happen, that wouldn't be much fun at all. This is why I like watching football. Anything can happen at any time.

Since everyone picked the 49ers tonight, and a lot of people had the same picks ( as I said before ), there is a 6 - way tie for best record of the week. The only thing left are the random games.

Yet another divisional primetime matchup tonight between the 49ers and the Rams. Like I said, everyone picked San Francisco.

Me: 49ers ( 10 - 4 for the week )
thing1 : 49ers ( 8 - 6 )
tornadocam : 49ers ( 10 - 4 )
Barathemos : 49ers ( 10 - 4 )
patar4097 : 49ers ( 9 - 5 )
megamanmaniac : 49ers ( 10 - 4 )
jparks34 : 49ers ( 9 - 5 )
pacman1755 : 49ers ( 10 - 4 )
styrofoamboots : 49ers ( 8 - 6 )
Kruzer : 49ers ( 10 - 4 ) If only he had picked the Patriots, the 1000 Viz would be all his.
A user of this : 49ers ( 9 - 5 )
mrfe : 49ers ( 9 - 5 )

12 - 0 49ers

* NOBODY picked Rams over 49ers ( duh )

Hope I will be able to make my pics for this week coming games. In my area we are expected to have very bad storms and the possibility of tornadoes and damaging winds for late tonight and tomorrow

Meanwhile, in the SVC, megamanmaniac continues to dominates, with Kruzer lurking in 2nd. There is a 3 way fight over 3rd place. Should be interesting to see how that looks after next week.

Kruzer: We had your record off by 1 win from the Week 5 Results, Week 6 Post. It has since been fixed, and the correction is not reflected here. Sorry about that. We mess up your record every week by 1 win somehow.

Here is the order that the tie breakers for the playoffs are going to be held. Me and MattyIce spent  two and a half talking about this to try to figure out the most fair way to do this:
The best record in the head to head match up will win, and move on to the next round. If the records are the same, then it goes to Tie-Breaker 1.
Each match-up will be given a game to predict the score of, in case a tie breaker is needed. Here is how the tie breakers are going to work:
1. If the record is the same, then it will go the game given to each match-up to predict in the case of a tie breaker. If both players correctly guessed or incorrectly guessed the winner of the tie breaker game, then it goes to Tie-Breaker 2.
2. The player that correctly guessed the winning score moves on. If both players correctly guessed the winning score, or incorrectly guessed the winning score, then it moves on to Tie-Breaker 3.
3. The player that correctly guessed the losing score will move on. If both players correctly guessed the losing score, or incorrectly guessed the losing score, then it moves on to Tie-Breaker 4.
4. The player that has the smallest margin of difference in the score prediction will move on to the next week of the playoffs. You will take your score prediction, find the difference of the actual score, and do this for both teams. The smallest sum of the combined differences would be the winner, and move on. If for some reason, the difference is the same, then it moves on to the final Tie-Breaker, Tie-Breaker 5.
5. A simple coin flip. The higher seed of the two would call it. If they are correct, they move on. If they wrong, they lose. Let's hope it never comes to this final tie breaker.

If you do not understand how the Tie-Breakers will work, send thing1 a PM. If you think you understand it, but want to be sure about it ( we expect the most confusion to be about Tie-Breaker 4 ) , then you may summon thing1 and MattyIce to the same post, and give a scenario. Give thing1 a score prediction, and give MattyIce a score prediction. We will explain to you how the winner would be determined.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
