Out of the three Hoenn pokemon, I would have to say that I like Mudkip or Torchic best, Out of the two I would say that Mudkip has the best coverage when it fully evolves because it resists lightning and it can learn a lot of useful moves like waterfall or earthquake and other powerful physical moves.

Torchic is a pretty good choice when it evolves into Blaziken because it learns some pretty good fighting moves and it also has balanced stats mainly distributed in attack and speed. Out of all of the starter gens, I would have to say that Hoenn is one of my favorites, if not, my favorite gen.

Sceptile is good too, but its defenses are pretty low, so one good physical move pretty much knocks it out.

Of all pokemon starters in hoenn region I like mudkip because it is a water type pokemon and the first gym leader is a rock type pokemon where water type pokemons are effective in rock type pokemon. And it is the best pokemon starte ( I think ) to choose to fight gym leaders when it evolve in to swampert the final evolution of mudkip.

That's a toughie for me, when I first played Pokémon emerald I used a treecko, I loved him to death. This time around I chose a mudkip and honestly I'm stuck between the two. So I'm going to have to go with mudkip just because I'm currently sweeping trainers with it.

Mudkip. Water/Ground RULES. Treecko is kinda so-so, and Torchic doesn't become the best it can be untill generation V.

For every generation my favorite starter is the water type one and Gen 3 is no exception, actually it is one of the best thanks to Mudkip evolving into Swampert which is a Water/Ground which gives it complete immunity to electric type moves and grass which now has a 4x damage modifier is very easy to counter and the type coverage of the moves, the good stats and the how most of their moves complement those stats give it some extra points.

My favorite will have to be Torchic because I generally like the fire starters for most of the generations.

I have been choosing the fire starter of the first three Gen because they  always have the best set of moves (personal opinion). I was never really fond of water types (though I really like Milotic and Lapras) but I guess Mudkip is alright, having its final evolution immune to grass type. I prefer the fire starters because they normally have high speed and special attack stats. So I guess I'll go with Torchic.

I'm glad that each starter has got at least one vote they're all great. As far as all 3 starters combined Gen 3 along with gen 1 are to me by far the best.

I think Swampert is a big favorite(I like it too) because of it's type combo alone of Water/Ground making it weak only to Grass attacks and immune to Electric moves. However, for that very reason, if I had to compete, I'd pick Sceptile only to counter Swampert users. I'm familiar with it anyway as it was my 1st choice during my 1st playthrough of Gen. 3.

Mudkip is my favorite starter of the Hoenn region because when it evolves, it turns into a water/ground type ,and this becomes very useful. Water type Pokemon are very weak against electric Pokemon and it is nice for a change instead of the typical pure water type starters.

Mudkip. It can actually win against the Elite Four...by himself! Just grind it from the start, give TMs to cover up his weaknesses and you can even win against Steven! (Read: Might work...)

gamerforlifeforever2 : I would choose Torchic: it fills an important slot in a balanced team plus when it evolves into Combusken, it gains Fighting for a secondary type - an edge against the Dark-type. It also has the fourth-highest base stat total of all non-legendaries(530, only to Charizard (534), Typhlosion (534) and Arcanine (555) - I use Charizard in Blue and Yellow, Typhlosion in Silver, and Arcanine in Red, Gold and Crystal). Plus it has the highest Attacks of all starters (120 Physical, 110 Special)

I'm kinda surprised that Treecko didn't get more votes. Sure it's not my favorite but it's still a really cool pokemon regardless.

Well, my favorite Hoenn starter is Treecko. I love all of his evolutionary stages, and after suitable training, he (now a sceptile) has some impressive stats. His speed gets really high and his special move, Leaf Blade, is quite lethal! He does tend to have a lower than satisfactory defense, but a few Irons fixes that... I was actually able to beat the entire Elite Four and Champion using only my Lvl81 Sceptile! Don't trade him, though...Treecko is very stubborn and will not listen to you at all if you got him from a trade...

yes this is a very hard choice considering gen 3 was my favorite gen but if i were to decide i would go with mudkip i mean treecko looks badass and i give it props for showing that grass type pokemon can be used for offense and has an awesome design to match with it torchic on the other hand is far too girly in my eyes i just didn't like it because i thought it was intended for female players and lets all be honest here blaziken looks like a cross between a human and a retarded chicken swampert is the best of all 3 of them firstly he can learn stealth rock and counter great coverage with ice type attacks rock type attacks water type attacks and ground type attacks and ground is my favorite type because its super effective against 5 types swampert only has 1 weakness which is 4x effective against him being the grass element now lets be real if you saw a blaziken fighting a swampert who do you think would win yea thats a pretty dumb question isn't it and this is why swampert is my favorite starter pokemon of all time
