Not sure if this has been mentioned yet or not, but Nintendo seems to be toying with the idea of a female Link, as they have recently released artwork of a female Link in connection to the Japan launch of Hyrule Warriors. Maybe it's just a "what if" sort of thing, but given that some argue Link has slowly changed appearance and continues to head toward a more indeterminable gender over the years, along with the trailer for the upcoming Zelda title making Link look almost feminine, and the artwork released for a female Link, I think this will be happening eventually, if not very soon. What do you folks think?

To change a major characters gender all of the sudden is kinda gross, almost like saying, "see link Now you as the gamer can fall in love with him/her, cause we redesigned him into a female."

Granted, Almost every game has a different Link, and there's nothing wrong with a female being a good fighter, BUT it generally isn't a females role, and I'm getting kindof sick of it being overused, and there often isn't even a good reason for the girl to be a warrior in the backstories ect. I also find it ammusing how they "try" to make them look so pretty, yet they never get a man because a warrior woman is to independent to really want a man, let alone listen to one. The only game that did female warriors right was Mount and Blade, since women were below average in every stat- like in real life. Nope, women don't have a higher dexterity then men, they are lighter, that is true, but the male's strength makes up for the extra weight and they can do anything battlewise just as well.

In the end, I just kindof have to ask.

She's a babe That's pretty cool! I really hope that does happen soon. I know it's a common stereotype that the character with the sword is almost always male, so they should definitely allow you to play as female link in future games. Thanks for sharing this!

It's obvious that she won't replace Link, but will be an additional character and I have to say that I like the idea of a female Link. It could be really interesting.
They wrote the name "rinkuru" there, so it's not "rinku", which would be Link. I wonder how they will translate that name. Maybe Linkuru or Linkul, which doesn't sound that good, but either way, this seems like a refreshing idea.

Maybe it will just be for this game, so you could decide if you want to play as male or female or it really is his sister or something. lol

The character simply has the name Link, nothing more.. If the next one happens to be female so be it.. It's not like the game will change drastically..

Ghiriham isn't Gay he's just really odd and that's the charm about him. He's not your typical villain and he is probably my favourite zelda villain for that reason. And who cares if he was gay or not. Swords don't have Genders or sexual preferences

And why isnt a hero a females role. One of the most badass characters in a game is Samus Aran and she is a female. She is more badass than link by far imo. I was actually excited when aonuma said the zelda U character might be a female link/. But he shot down the speculation that is was a female.

Why would it be Okay if it was links sister or something. It would still be a descendant of a past link  and be all the same.

Also, Hyrule warriors bashing on Fi... You can play as a talking rock too. A talking fish, That same "gay deamon lord"

Zelda had more than that even. The triforce, and the fact that there are three gods, in a Link to the past could be a reference to the trinity.

In Zelda II we find a church, in which inside we learn a secret sword technique.

In a Link to the Past we can visit the sanctuary, but it's is suspiciously very VERY much like a church, complete with pews, that stained glass, and a person very much dressed like a pastor.

I care if Girahim was gay or not on account of what Nintendo hid in the foundation. I study the media that I am into very closely for fun a and for thought. It's important to me the moral views of the people producing a product.

The 4th, yeah, it was neat the historical aspect, though I hope that they didn't forget their other origins that had already been preset in the other games since Christianity matches my own religious beliefs much more closely.

I do actually think that he was pretty cool, though not nearly as cool as Zant. We only have hints to as whether he is gay or not, but like a lot of other "Black Pages" in Nintendo's book, things are often hinted at very subtly.

Purely your opinion, I agree that Males do fit the battle scene better the females, but a hero can very much emerge from a girl, because you are very much into biblical stuff, look at Ester, she was difinitively a hero, yes not in the aspect of a ware hero, but she saved the slaughter of countless jews.

I would expect more from my brother, you're suppose to by nice to others, this is again a rude thing to say and very biased, yes, I don't agree with the s***ty dressing style, but you don't need to point it out to everyone, we can see it just fine without your help.

Also, Japanese are a lot more sexually "biased" (lack of a better word) in their thinking, they think of it highly and a lot, not in a lustful way, just in how everything revolves in their day to day lives.

And I don't see why it's a bad thing even from a religious stand point to have a female Link. Link isn't typically a warrior, but rather a simple village boy that fights out of necessity, and if a woman's loved ones are being harmed, how could someone condemn her for fighting to protect them? Just my thoughts.

To be honest I hated the idea initially, then I thought for a bit... I actually like the idea now. I typically play as the female characters when I have a choice anyway, so this could be cool. Strange twist, but cool.

And I don't consider the "gods" to be a reflection of Christianity at all. In fact my parents wouldn't let me play Zelda growing up because of the fact that it was extremely contradictory of Christianity to refer to gods. First of all, I'm a Christian, but don't believe in the trinity, so you can't say it's a Christian idea (especially since the trinity wasn't originally a Christian or Jewish idea). Secondly, even those who do believe in the trinity don't believe in gods, they believe in a God. But this is all off topic, so I digress.

And Zelda is a Japanese game, and hardly Pseudo-Japanese. Twilight Princess was (according to Nintendo) the Westernized version of an otherwise Japanese series.

Again, all just opinions. I hope you don't take them offensively. You know I'd never flame you or try to argue (me of all people, right? lol).

I can tell you for sure, I'll pick the female Link if there's a choice, and since there are no reasons the plot of the typical Zelda game couldn't apply to a male or female just as well, I think an option is the way to go. Not sure why Nintendo didn't do that sooner. It seems most games are, and quite frankly after seeing games objectify women all these years, I can't wait to see more and more games making women playable (and respectable!) characters. Hyrule Warriors seems to be trying to flesh the story out a bit more, but it's really a contextual nightmare. How is the MM moon in the same game as Midna AND Fi? More than likely it'll be written off as non-canonical. Not that Nintendo can even make perfect sense of the Zelda timeline. lol

Since they started that with Pokémon Crystal most people reacted positive about that (although many boys still play it so they don't care too much about it ).
