Many Steam games have Cooperation Modes, so Do you ever play those games with/ against someone? If you do play Online/ Free-To-Play games do you play with friends, or with random people. As this is in the steam forum, this excludes ANY and ALL Physical copies of the games. Thank-You for posting!

Do you play your steam games alone more often? Or do you play more often against someone? I have heard that many buy Halo mainly for Vs. mode, but I'm not sure about that. How about you guys, do you play/ buy games for the story, or for the sake of online playing?

I personally only have a few Free-To-Play games, I'm buying some games soon, *Hopefully waiting for sale* So I have limited options at this point. I do play the free-to-play games, but with random people. I do enjoy playing with random people, but it is more fun playing with friends. How about you guys?

How often do you guys play against others, do you buy games, just for Vs mode?

I pretty much only buy games for the single-player, unless it's a title which is known for multi-player like Call of Duty (it was a free weekend) or something. Most of my games in my steam library are capable of multi-player but I mostly just use the single-player like in Crusader Kings II or Left 4 Dead.

I like both, but co-op is my favorite. Few things beat playing locally or online with friends, dishing out punishment like crazy. I would play only co-op games, if I had the choice.

Co-op wasn't much when it first started out. Systems like the NES and even SNES had few games with co-op, and the co-op within those games was usually lackluster. The Donkey Kong Country series was one of the first mainstream games to feature co-op, but not co-op at the same time. However, Secret of Mana featured co-op for up to 3 players. This was the first big step towards the revolution that co-op games would undergo.

Co-op games have achieved a lot these days. Games such as Rayman Legends and Guacamelee! allow players to drop in and out at the touch of a button. Even Goat Simulator features local co-op now. Among the most popular co-op games on Steam are Castle Crashers and BattleBlock Theater, both games by The Behemoth. Castle Crashers' online co-op is known to lag, though. BattleBlock's online is much better.

But vs. modes have been around ever since the advent of video games. Pong was all about that. Super Mario Bros. had two players competing for a high score. Even many co-op games feature vs. modes, including Castle Crashers, BattleBlock Theater, and even Rayman Legends.

Although the vs. modes in games like these tend to be small compared to the campaign, they are usually still a lot of fun. The Kung Foot mode in Rayman Legends is so simple, yet is a blast to play. Castle Crashers has you battling it out for the affections of a princess after beating certain bosses. Battleblock Theater has many modes, including an arena mode and a mode that has you scoring goals. All are particularly fun, and are worth playing.

I try my best to use both but I am leaning more towards the single player side. Co-op can make things pretty crazy to other people especially when people are not cooperating with each other in general while on the other hand, single player is in your own hands and through your own personal experience.

I play Team Fortress sometimes for single player (soon I will upgrade to multiplayer) and I play Unturned with other people since it's more fun that way.

For me it's going to depend on the game, but in general, I'm about 50/50 on it. If I'm playing GMod or TF2, which I play a lot, then of course I will be playing with others, but I like that, If I am playing Unturned, I generally play alone and find that it's too much trouble to play with others, which I do once in a very long while.

It is usually based on a game to game basis with me, Though given the chance i really do have much more fun when playing with friends on a game..

After all half the fun of playing co op is that you can have that social aspect and you both can share a solid enjoyment of a game. Plus it saves people from the torturous joys of watching some one simply play a single player game and you being annoyed because you can not take part as well.

I agree with supernerd117, Co op games have come a long way over the years, I remember co op games being very hard to find and then most of the time they were not actually a very good game or instead of being true co op it was simply just two players taking it in turns to complete levels.. Like super Mario world for example.

These days most games have some sort of co op element to essentially make the game more appealing to a wider audience, And sometimes people prefer the multiplayer aspects of the game more than any part of the single player game.. A solid example of this would be Call of Duty

So yes given the chance i would usually pick co op games over single player games.. And if the co op game sucks you have someone to moan about how the poor game is with someone else.. Like playing sonic 06 multiplayer is a blast, even though the game itself is awful!

In general, I actually don't like co-oping. I ADORE the idea of it (and would moreso if I actually had friends and/or gaming friends).... but I'm absolutely totally completely terrible at games.  I always feel like I don't even have a chance, and I feel more like an extra wheel.  I kind of end up following everyone, then I feel left out, and then I struggle to enjoy the game.

The only co-op games in which I don't feel like this are usually racing games and games like Mario Party (maybe they have to be turn-based for me not to feel that way?)

I don't even like playing Minecraft co-op (thought I love the idea) because everyone just whizzes ahead of me and they build these amazing mansions, machines, and gadgets while I'm still in the process of acquiring a fishing pole. LOL

Singelli : Sadly, I only have one game where you can play coop... And that is Portal 2. I do wish I had some games where I could play with someone... And just a bit of advice, just practice your games in single player, and you should get better in multiplayer and coop.

What games do you have, other than Minecraft, that are coop games?

darthyoda :  I don't have the time to practice. XD  Also, I'm not sure which games I have that are co-op.  I know I have Portal 2... or at least I used to. I'd have no idea how to access it now. I also got Block Theatre in Steam.

Most of mine and Jason's games are listed in my game collection.  :

I like both but I usually play that kind of single-player games which have a good story in them, for example Half Life series and Final Fantasy series, but sometimes it's fun to play co-op games, like Garry's Mod or Counter Strike: Global Offensive, with friends. I also have couple free-to-play online games on steam, but I haven't played them a lot in fact.

It truly depends on the game Im playing. I like to play games like Left 4 Dead by myself, but I also like to play games like Team Fortress 2 and Garry's Mod with others. When I play Team Fortress 2 and Garry's Mod, I dont really care who I play with, but when I play games that are like a 2 player co-op, I only play with friends. A good example would be Battle Block Theater, Ive been playing that with a good friend of mine and its a ton of fun.

I love me some co-op games.

It's kinda sad that there aren't that many good co-ops being released these days.

I dunno if I consider TF2 to be co-op though.

Mario Party I think I would consider competitive and not at all co-op unless there is a mode I dunno about.

We need a thread dedicated to co-op gaming.
Somewhere we can list games we are interested in playing co-op that we own, much like the RGR netplay thread.
