My favorite has to be Navi, just cause I thought if fit to have Link accompanied by a light blue fairy, though she should have been personalized more. Like in Dust. That fairy that follows your main character around.

Tatl Though, I really liked too. I would pick someone other than Navi, but I didn't really like any of them. Navi was characterized well at the beggining, but then it's like she cease's being a character. And then. . .

At the end, she just left. Just like that.

And link went looking for her.

*sigh*

OOT's ending is kindof sad. :/

Dark knight of the blackened sun. I am Sword Legion, one of many. My mask is thick, and my armor is strong. All the more necessary in a world such as this. . .

Sword legion :

FINALLY!!! SOMEONE WHO AGREES WITH ME! XD

Anyway, aside from Navi, I have to say I simply adored Linebeck. His theme was adorable, he was adorable, and his character development was, well... adorable x3!

I found it really cool how he succumbed to being brainwashed (and thus the final boss) at the end to save Link and Tetra despite his cowardliness earlier in the game, and the remixed version of his theme made me feel feels ;-;.

pfft, Navi!?  How about Ezlo!  Who wouldn't want a talking hat that shrinks you, makes bad jokes and is belligerently ignorant to your life or death adventure?  Now that is a companion!

Favorite would be a tie between Fi and Navi. The concept of your partner being the spirit of your sword was really cool, but I just have a soft spot for the classics.

I really like Midna, but I also like Navi, too. (Don't judge me.) I like Midna because, well, you can jump really high! And I don't really know why I like Navi. Sure, she can get annoying at times, but she can also be a helpful companion on your journey.

Wow, the responses here are pretty much split about the same characters . Anyway, I happen to like the King of red Lions from Wind Waker. Yes, he's a talking boat. No, he doesn't constantly follow you, but he still fits the role of "companion." First of all, he's a talking boat with a serious nature, but still manages to have a sense of humor. Second of all, he's not really just some companion that you can ignore, considering you need him in order to travel everywhere . Third of all, your perception of him changes from him just being some stupid talking boat to a wise, and somewhat sorrowful king of old. Once you get the Master Sword, you really can see the development of Link's and the King of Red Lions' relationship as good friends who respect the other's experiences and strengths. Anyway, that's enough reasons, this isn't a debate after all .

Phew. For a second there I thought this whole thread was just going to be Midna! I mean, I don't mind her but...
I prefer Zelda from Spirit Tracks. You may not see her all the time but she has a definite personality that grows into something better, and she is uber helpful in dungeons with phantoms. I like her for the same reasons I like Midna, I guess. I just think Zelda is less annoying in the beginning.

For what I've seen, I really do like Midna (like many of you).
I mean, Navi seems like an annoyance with her "Hey" and when you know what is next her tips are pretty useless, even thou Ocarina of Time was like the best game of the series. All other sidekicks... Well, I have not really seen or played other games in details. I just pretty much started. So yeah.
I may have a slight bias thou, since the only game I have ever player is... well, Twilight Princess. Although I do have to admit, the relationships between Midna and Link is constantly evolving and although annoying sometimes, her teasing make her a different personality. Plus she is actually useful... the B button attack and the jumps, not forgetting her teleporting skills are so important in the game. Plus she is always on his side

Midna is an easy choice for me here, and not just because Twilight Princess is my favorite Zelda game. Midna is my favorite because she doesn't feel forced on you at all, rather they managed to make her feel like a natural fit right from the beginning. Also she has a very interesting story of her own so it's almost like watching two great tales unfold at once, and her story is actually a huge part of the main theme. In fact, Midna is most of the reason why Twilight Princess is my favorite Zelda title rather than vice versa.

Then there's the fact that I actually got attached to Midna. I had never before been attached to a video game character, but when I saw how TP ended I stared open mouthed in disbelief at the screen for a long while, and even after that I was actually kind of "bummed" for a few days, her story impacted me that much. That ending made me love Nintendo and hate them with a burning passion all at the same time. I can't think of anything game wise that would make me happier than to see Midna in another Zelda title... assuming Nintendo could use her right again.

Also it helped tremendously that she was so helpful in your quest. She made herself feel like a teammate which is something Zelda titles suffer a near complete lack of. She felt like a partner rather than a tour guide like all of the others. And she had emotions, not just knowledge or a big mouth. Finally that character development....it was perfect. Easily Nintendo's best story work in my opinion.
