Please see my update below.

I tried to keep it in. ?But it's been clawing at me for too long now. ?It happened a while back, but it's still fresh in my mind. I need to know if what I did was warranted.

It was the day after I graduated from Grade 8, about a month back. After you graduated, you still needed to head to school one last time to pick up your report card, as per school tradition. En route, I took a walk through a park to relish in the thought that I was done with middle school. There, I heard a shout from behind. ?He was a bully from elementary. He beat me a few times, but he mostly talked a lot of crap to my face, about me and my family. Then, I was timid and weak, too scared to tell someone or fight back. But times had changed, and I was now stronger and more confident.

I turned around, and he came up to me from a street. He talked more crap about me and my family. He ended his speech by telling me he was going to kick my ass, and promptly made a jab at my face. I intercepted it, and was so incensed that I broke his arm. I then beat him so severely that by the time I was done, his face looked like jelly and numerous bones were broken. He was still breathing and (barely) conscious, but looked dead. I dumped him in a ditch nearby, wiped the blood off my fists and face, and proceeded to school. It was a weekday, and most people were at work or at home (it was a really hot day), so the park was devoid of other human life.

Then, I didn't care about him. Heck, I wanted him to suffer. But it didn't take long before I started to regret it. I kept worrying about that poor dude. I kept thinking that I shouldn't have beat him. I thought about it and kept blaming myself. I tried to pretend like it didn't bother me, like it didn't happen. But now I need to know, so I can sleep at night.

Was what I did to that guy warranted?

P.S. I know the odds sound incredible. But it happened, and questioning me won't help.

Update: Sought out the bully today. I got a friend of him to update me, since i couldn't reach out to him directly. Apparently the guy wasn't hurt too bad, but he was pretty shaken up (turns out he didn't have any broken bones after all, minus his arm). I hear he tried to pass it off as a nasty fall. His parents apparently fell for it, but now most of his friends know he was beat up.

Thanks for the reply's, guys. It really helped me out. I feel a lot less pity for that a**h***.

*Winces * One of those tough life questions, huh?

Well, I first must say that there's a chance the situation might be exaggerated in your mind.  When adrenaline is high, everything seems to be ten times as bigger, ten times as faster, and ten times as tougher.  As a small example, about a month ago I scraped the side of my brand new (white) car against a large yellow column in a parking garage. The minute I heard the sound, my heart began to pound and I feared the worst.  When I stepped out to view my car.... well, you would have thought half the car was missing to hear me tell it.  And I really did think it looked -absolutely- ghastly!  However, once my nerves were calmed and I got back home, I took another look and felt really silly about all the people I called and freaked out on.  The car really only had a few scratches and a smudge of yellow paint on it.

All this to say.... he might have looked to be in worse condition due to your adrenaline.

Nonetheless, there is a fine line between self-defense and brutality.  I won't want to beat around the bush, but it sounds like you passed the line of self-defense by quite a bit.  I understand that frustration with his antics likely spurred you on, but I think your nerves and emotions pushed you too far.

Hm, I know what you mean. Even though you are happy that you showed him not to mess with you, you went a bit overboard and regret it. First of all, like Singelli said, you might be exaggerating it in your mind. If that isn't the case, then try to find out what happened with him. If he had to go to a doctor or a hospital you might as well try to apologize with his parents. If that isn't the case, don't feel too bad for him, he might have done the same thing with you. He now knows that you're a tough guy and that you shouldn't be bullied by him anymore.

He had it coming to him. Eventually someone is going to snap if you keep whittling away at them. There is no point in really worrying about it, unless you can get into some serious trouble from it. He came at you, you retaliated, you were furious about his past misdeeds and let out your frustration and anger on the root cause. Did you go a little overboard? Maybe, but sometimes it is the only way people actually learn.

It sounds like he definitely had it coming but not from you. Guys like that will pay for what they've done later in life and may even come to regret it. Even though I'm not superstitious or anything but I still have a firm belief in karma. If you do good things, good things will happen to you. If you do bad things, bad things will happen to you. But it's not because of some over powerful invisible force. It's because your actions can and will effect what happens to you later in life. That's just the way life is. Bullies usually screw themselves over later because of their actions.

I think he deserved it, but maybe not to the degree you gave it to him. Yeah, bully's need to be put in their place sometimes, but that doesn't mean you have to beat the living crap out of them to the point to where you almost kill him.

As for the throwing him a ditch part, maybe a bit over kill, but a nice touch. Very nice.

Wow, feeling bad for something like that.. Should every Jewish person alive during the holocaust feel bad for Hitler committing suicide? He had it coming to him, if he was constantly beating the living s*** out of you, then 2 wrongs do make a right.

I think you did fine. He was  tormenting you for a long time and you finally retaliated. It honestly makes me mad at schools for being all "don't do anything yourself, just go get a teacher and everything will be fine" because it's not true at all.  I feel you did the right thing by defending yourself finally, the only thing you could have done better was go get an adult afterwards. To leave him in a ditch barely conscious really wasn't necessary.

good for you standing up for yourself! i have always believed in faceing your problems head on and never taking anyones crap! although it does sound like you went a little off the deep end i don't think i would have taken it that far and beat him that bad. but i dont know your situation or what this bully did to you. i myslef have never been bullied but i imagine its absolutely horrible. i think i would have acted similarly to you and fought back with what ever i had. once again good for you and hopefully you prevented this guy from picking on anyone else.

i know you said no questions but im dying to know how did you break his arm? you sound like a bad a** little eight grader!
