So I was thinking about several things today as I cleaned my apartment, and two of them were these:  1. I'm really enjoying the book club thread that a few of us are doing here.  2.  I need to read the Bible more.

Then... ta-da!  I'm sure a few of you had the same thought I did?

I want to try (and actually SUCCEED this time) to read the bible in a year. Yes, the whole thing.  So anyone who wants to participate must be COMMITTED, obviously.  We could easily come up with a schedule, but I'm thinking three or four chapters a day, swapping between the old and new testament (a book at a time) until something else needs to be figured out.  We could post our thoughts on the passages each day as well.

And of course, this is open also for anyone who is not Christian and just likes to read or wants to read the Bible or... what have you.  I do want to specify, however, that this would NOT be an activity meant to spark debate or argue over the text read.

As a spin-off of this idea, we could read some non-fictional book about the Bible or Bible topics, as well.

Hmm, think I've kept you in suspense long enough?

Honestly though, I really do need to read my Bible more. I'd be up for this. I can't promise activity for daily notes, but I'll try to do it weekly at the least.

mrfe : Oh don't worry about that. I wouldn't expect people to post notes daily. I think that'd be a bit unfair. XD

Good, lol. I've been so busy recently, and am utterly exhausted, so not having a set commitment for posting notes here is a great idea for me.

tl;dr No commitment 4 notes = happy merf

This would be a lot of fun! I know that I just finished reading it through in April, but it was for my Bible Survey Class and we didn't go through every book(9 Months of school, and reading every book, not fully possible). When do we want to start?

mrfe :

I was hoping for more responses, but I was also hoping to start in August.  Would you guys be okay with starting tomorrow?  If so, we'd read Genesis 1-3.

Sorry.  I meant to respond to this thread.  I am currently in the book of Jeremiah and I've basically just done Genesis, but it's such an important book I will be happy to join in and do it again There is sooo much to say about Genesis, especially the first 2 chapters, because it's the very foundation of our faith, the beginning of all things and it is this foundation that is currently being attacked and questioned by not just atheists, but by the Church... So, Genesis 1-3 it is

I'm glad I found this....
My Christian Youth Camp was a few weeks ago, and I still haven't been jumping on reading the bible. I've never really read the bible, despite owning 2 bibles....
Thus, count me in. I might not be able to have complete time tomorrow, though.... It's my mother's birthday -w- But I'll try~

I just want to throw this in if I may.  Please do not feel put down by this as it seems to be a struggle for a lot of Christians (including me of course), but if you truly want to grow in your walk with God as a Christian, read your Bible.  As simple as that.  I can testify of this.  I know, it is not within ourselves to pick up the Bible and read it.  It does not come natural to us, that's why it's very important to pray for that desire.  It is God's Word and the only way to get to know Him properly.  I have been "lazy" for many years.  I had 4 Bibles.  Two different translations in my home language and 2 in English (NIV), but I hardly picked any of them up.  Only "recently", about 3-4 years ago, my life changed and I started reading my Bibles.  I currently mostly use the NKJV translation, but I try and read daily.  We should read daily.  It shouldn't even by an option for the Christian.  It's no wonder Christians struggle to defend their faith and have no answers for skeptics.  All the answers to all life's questions are contained in this book.  So I just want to encourage you all to read daily.  It will make a difference in your life and thank you Singelli for this great idea.

Sorry about being late, I've been meaning to reply for days, I'm up for this. Seems like an awesome idea, I have yet to read the entire bible in a year, ive tried before, lost motivation about halfway through the Old Testament, so this'll be great. Thank you Singelli

I haven't responded to this and I saw that it is already starting. I will definitely be checking out that thread from time to time and see if there is anything that I can add. I won't be following exactly the plan everyone is doing because I am already going through another reading plan of my own, but I will still be checking out and see what people are saying and add anything if there is a need for me to be.
