First off, let me make this perfectly clear: I HATE HORROR MOVIES!!! I am no fan of them. They creep me the heck out. Yes, thing1 is scared of horror movies. It is just not my thing. I am more into the action scene.

However, there has been 1 horror movie that I did enjoy:
Drag Me To Hell. That movie kept me on the edge of my seat, and I actually thought that it was going to have a happy ending. Granted, there were a few parts that creeped the heck out, but it is the only Horror Movie that I have ever gone out of my way to buy.

So the question remains: What are some of your favorite horror movies?

I hate horror movies. I saw this thread and groaned a little. However, they don't scare me... honestly. I just think they are.... totally demented.  I can't take them seriously or get scared by them, and in fact.... the one time I watched one in a theater, I accidentally laughed.  It was very embarrassing.

That being said... I DO enjoy psychological thrillers.  Quite a bit, actually.  I haven't watched many because I don't watch a lot of television. However, I can think of one off the top of my head right now:  Se7en.  That was a good movie from what I recall.  I know I've seen some really impressive ones... I wish I had a memory for stuff I watch.

thing1 : I'm no fan of horror movies either. Its not because they creep me out, I'm just simply not interested in them. HOWEVER, there is one movie (or I should say all 4 of them), that creeps me out...Final Destination. Every single one of them. Its the only time I've ever closed my eyes in the movie theater because I was scared what was going to happen next. When people get crushed by a glass window pane, and then you're brother wants to watch it again in slow motion when you have it for DVD...yeah, that is not for me. But I still saw all of them in the theater. And I remember I grit my teeth whenever I thought something bad was going to happen. I also had nightmares about them...oh jeez...I'll have nightmare tonight just thinking about it.

MattyIce : I do not think that Final Destination can be counted as a horror franchise. I would classify it more as an Sci-Fi Action series, personally.

thing1 : Its actually officially classified as a dual horror/thriller movie. Whatever the genre, it scared me, but I still liked to watch it for some reason. It kept my attention...I don't know why.

Horror movies do not scare me, but I really haven't seen any. Probably because I don't really watch movies at all. I would totally be down for watching one, but I have not seen any. I did see The Purge, but that wasn't even scary.

I'm not too big a fan of horror, but one I did like was The Room.

Kidding..... mostly.

I do like A Nightmare on Elm Street, however. It's just not one of those movies you can watch over and over.

Usually I don't get spooked by horror movies, I only get grossed out by the guts so I might peek through my hands during those scenes. The only thing that ever really gave me chills was in Silent Hill when they played the sirens. It's just such a bold sound, I don't know exactly why it creeps me out so much cause I think it's really symbolic and actually very neat. Really only hear sounds like that in real life when a tornado is rolling through or other natural disasters.

I pretty much grew up on horror movies
My mom was a big fan of horror, and she only had me part of the time
We always watched them together, because I always loved them as well.
Puppet Masters, Hellraiser, Nightmare of elm, Friday the 13th
The never scared me, they always made me laugh.
Or I just got really into it in the case of some of the better ones.
I was probably one of the very few small kids who carried a copy of "It" in his backpack.
I can still remember the uncertain look on a babysitters face when she asked me (6 years old) if I wanted to watch a movie
and I pulled that out.
I've watched horror movies as far as I can remember

Well, since my mother passed away 2 years ago
I've found myself watching a bunch of the horror films we used to watch together when I was little
Specifically, the child's play series.
The original childs play came out the same year I did, lol
And it's the first horror movie I can remember watching with my mom.

I really don't dig horror movies that much, because I don't like freaky looking demons, mindless gore or cheap jumpscares- a good horror movie to me CAN have these things but focuses more on the atmosphere and build up and knows how to use these tactics to amplify the story rather than on cheap thrills.

That being said, I think my favorite horror movie has to be the 80's rendition of "The Thing" because of the amazing special effects and the sense of isolation and paranoia that it sparks. The first time I saw it, when I was very little, I had no idea what was going to happen next because the alien kept changing, the large group of men was picked down slowly seemingly at random and the amount of time that would pass before I realized someone was infected was great at keeping my frantic little mind on edge. Even as an adult now, I like to watch it and admire the relationships between the characters and the amount of detail and work that must have gone into making the special effects pop out.

I found Cabin In The Woods to be less scary than I anticipated. Its a horror movie, but it's funny and SO relevant to other horror movies.
I mean, I'm a sandwich, and I have to tell you to man up. Something is wrong...............

I love horror movies! They are usually funny, and predictable. It is awesome to see the reaction to people's faces in the theater. Makes me proud to be a me when I see people covering their eyes and holding their knees to their body. Funny as hell to see because I don't understand why people would be scared of something that isn't scary. If you know or have a good idea of what will happen next, it is no longer scary. There are a few exceptions though.

There are 3 memorable horror films and 1 franchise that actually got to me but 2 of these are because I was a kid and am not as thoughtful as I am now.

1. Valentine - the one with the guy who's nose bleeds after a kill
2. Pulse - the American version, not the original Asian one, that one actually sucked more than the remake which usually isn't the case
3. Shutter - the Thai version. If you watch the American version and think it is scary then boy you are in for it if you watch the thai version
4. Saw Franchise - I just love the story. I'm ecstatic to hear that they are making an 8th film. Hells yeah! The ending of Saw 3D was crap though but kind of expected.

Most other horror films are super predictable and unoriginal. Hell most films are no longer original works anymore but I digress. I know it freaks people out when sweet little kids seems evil and put on a scary face with some dark eery green light here and there, but I swear kids are overused. How many horror films released nowadays doesn't concern some stupid brat? If it weren't for watching people's reactions I wouldn't even bother to waste my time watching a couple kids act evil. That is why I can only enjoy horror movies when kids are not involved. The Saw movies shouldn't even be considered horror, it is just psychological and very grisly, not scary unless you are hemophobic or blennophobic. Legion isn't on my list but it was a fun movie but again it had too much to do with baby teeth lol. Note that I do think a lot of horro movies are entertaining even if they aren't all that great of a movie.

Stuck up jerk,

I really enjoy the Halloween series with Michael Myers. I have all of them on DVD except for the remakes and just love watching them around this time of year. I think Halloween 2 and 5 are my favorites. I do like others like Final Destination 1 and some of the Friday the 13th's.

I also pretty much hate horror movies, in fact, I have only seen two. (On my own at least) These two were Final Destination 2 and The Haunting In Connecticut.

My favorite is the Haunting In Connecticut because i thought that it was just a good amount of horror while being able to throw in random suspense and I loved it.

Does the movie Zonbieland count? I enjoyed that, and I would count it as a horror movie, even though it is comical...

Yes Zombieland is a Horror/comedy.

I love Zombie movies, from the original black and white Night Of The Living Dead to Zombieland I love them. I also like Freddy, Jason slasher type flicks too.
