As some of you know, the site automatically closes old threads depending on the forum. I've updated that script so that it no longer closes threads in the 'Game Guides', 'Game Articles' and 'Game Reviews' forums. I also ran a query which opened up all threads in those forums.

There's a few reasons for doing this:

1. If someone wants to go back and edit one of their old Guides, Articles or Reviews, they should be able to. There have been some cases where users wanted to edit their old Reviews or Guides but weren't able to since those threads were auto closed.

2. Video game guides and reviews are always relevant so they don't need to be closed unless they're spammy or plagiarized. Depending on the article, they're usually always relevant as well (unless it's a current even type article).

So does that mean you can still post in guides, articles, or reviews even if they are pretty old threads? I'm just wondering because posting in old threads is usually frowned upon. xwx

Gingercream1 : If it can stay on topic and not be spammy then yeah, it'd be fine to post in an old review or guide. I think it'd be pretty easy to detect whether the person is bumping just to spam and in those cases, we'll discipline.

Cool. Sounds like a great update. Can get frustrating to users that have to edit a review or something after it's been closed.

Gingercream1 : Posting in old threads isn't actually a problem at all. Some people have tried to make it an issue and complain about it, but the FAQ says that it's fine to post in any open thread, and that if you shouldn't post in a thread, it would be closed. I think some people just had preferences and started trying to pass it off as bad etiquette on Vizzed.


This does confuse me a bit though, as until now Reviews were the only thread that wasn't considered okay to bump, and now they're one of the few that allow for endless bumping. I can see the usefulness, but it will present more of a challenge for moderating and Review Managing. Still, I suppose if a new function benefits the site, it's worth a little extra work. I do think this could very well benefit the site.

Will we be able to temporarily close reviews/guides/articles that are in question of plagiarism until we get an answer still?

This is good news. However, the articles I am doing for XBOX 360 Sales ( which I was instructed to put in Game Discussions for XBOX 360 since I am not a staff Article Writer... ) are not exactly relevant after a couple of days... Should the mods just close them on their own, then? Or should I message a mod after they are no longer relevant?

Davideo7 : that's very good update there. Besides, why close a review? If a person wants help from a game and a random person made a review for it and its thread got closed. It doesn't make any sense to close a review and if the person changed his mine on writing his/her review to edit it.

Eirinn : We'll see how it goes and I can always change my mind or make changes later.

You can definitely temporarily close threads if you want.

thing1 : We don't have to make sure every article gets closed that gets outdated, we'll just close them when they get bumped.

Davideo7 : I definitely appreciate this as I have submitted both reviews and game guides with errors or updated information. With having this ability I can go back and fix mistakes, errors or even clean up my works.

If anyone is ever playing a game I have created a guide for and has questions regarding that game, you can always post on my Guides and I will do my best to assist you.

I agree with that concept, but you know what that means, guys...we need to really be looking out for review comments that absolutely pointless and vague and off topic for post count during posting competitions. We better not be seeing some "oh, nice review, it looks long and detailed" type of comments.

Awesome. I think this is a great update. I agree that Guides and Reviews (and Articles too I guess) should not close since they are always available on the game page and are always relevant.

Davideo7 : Well like I said, it looks like it'll be a good feature. If we feel like it's too much work, we aren't being forced to do it. lol I do get requests a lot asking for reviews to be reopened and edited, so I can see this being very useful.

In fact, if currently featured reviews can be edited, I may go and add some better spacing in some of my Wall o' Text reviews that got featured.

Davideo7 : I'll probably take a little bit of tweeking as we go along, but the concept is definitely reasonable. People could change their minds about reviews or their writing styles. These reviews are engraved on their profiles so they should have the opportunity to make them better if they care about that type of thing. I think it's worth some members to even ask to have their reviews opened if they want to change something about them.

This update WILL be helpful! 
I did have some question in some walktroughs/I wanted to say that the walkthrough was good and helpful and such, but it was already closed which was a bit of a problem, so, I, Blubby Jamesey, Thanks you for this update.

Some users invest a lot of time into their Reviews and they invest even more time into their Walkthroughs; those users definitely deserve this update.

Davideo7 : if you go back and edit a review you made a year ago, will it alter the cp that you got from the review if it is longer? And will edited reviews be bumped to the top of the reviews forum so users can re read the edited one?

Barathemos : It will not alter the CP or Viz that you earned fro it. Edited reviews do not get bumped.
