First of all there is a theory that because there are lots more pokemon the pokemon company changed the rarity of shiny pokemon because i have seen more people with shiny pokemon in their roster and i started wondering who else out there has actualy not gotten a shiny during going around walking in grass and encountering a pokemon in pokemon X and Y because it would seem interseting to see how many of u that are owners of pokemon X and Y do not actualy have a shiny and have gone through the whole game like i have pokemon X and Y and i do not just have one shiny i have like a whole roster of shinys and most of you will be thinking oh u just hacked them in no i didnt i legitly built up a roster of shinys and the first time i was like omg but then i got dull and whenever i see another shiny in other games i say omg because they are more rare here but idk what do you guys thing tell me in this thread did they change the encounter chance of a shiny pokemon in pokemon X and Y?

Generation VI
This generation slightly changed how Shiny Pokémon are determined. While the basic formula is still identical to Generation III and all games since then, the value the formula returns now only has to be less than 16 to result in a Shiny, rather than less than 8. This results in a probability of 16/65536 or 1/4096, double the previous probability.

Taken from Bulbapedia.

So this would mean that the chance of encountering a new shiny Pokémon means has increased 2x. That's quite impressive.

juuldude : okay then you are telling me that shiny pokemon are two times more common than the before generations i actualy think this is bad because it takes most of the fun out of encountering shiny pokemon because it used to be to rare!

Well, I'm not completely sure if it's correct what I said but if it is, I somewhat agree. Sure, it is fun and really cool when you find a rare shiny but I think that it's still pretty rare this way to find a shiny Pokémon.

A legendary shiny? I'm pretty happy if I am able to catch a 'normal' legendary. But it would be awesome if I had one. I remember I've had a shiny Sandshrew and a shiny Abra.

I have only encountered one shiny so far in X and Y, which was a shiny burmy I hatched from an egg, on my first try ^^. I wonder-traded him of though, by losing a bet with my cousin. Ah well, I was able to make someone else excited.

To be honest, I don't believe the shiny-is-less-rare-in-X and Y tale. When you go online, battling others, 90% of those shinies are pokegenned.

I have played other games less than X and Y, and still managed to find more shinies, even with a lower chance. Take soul silver, for example. I find a shiny unown, ditto, ledyba, girafarig, and aipom. All in 3 days.

I know they have made it easier to encounter them in X and Y, by using the chain fishing strategy, and making the pokeradar less hard to use. But the actual percentage in the grass, I don't believe so. Even though they did say that.

I think they took a wrong step with this one, shinies are supposed to be rare to find, now they're gonna be easier? no!

Not only does it look like the ratio itself has been changed, but there are more ways to find shinies now, which in a way adds a bit to how easy it may be to catch them now. Though I still have not yet found one, so I don't think ots easier at all.
