sop281 : Something similar to that actually happened to me as a kid. It really was quite humiliating, and left me shaken for a bit as well. I stole a peanut butter cup, my sister saw it and told my mother, and she made me take it back and apologize. The clerk tried to tell my mom that I could keep it, but mom told her I shouldn't because I needed to learn that stealing was wrong, and giving me the candy would only reinforce the action. She was right, and I'm glad she did it, but I was bawling I was so ashamed and embarrassed. I was like maybe three or four. We bear the same scars, my friend. *wipes a tear*




Yeah, I've accidentally stolen something before. I was ten or eleven, and my siblings and I went shopping with my dad one day and got a mother's day gift. We found a mug with a funny little saying on it, and a plant inside. We got that, and then on the way home, we discovered the plant wasn't supposed to come with the cup. lol It was actually in a little plastic pot that someone had set down inside of the coffee mug for some reason, and was tagged separately. Oops. Well, I got to be the one to present our mother with the accidentally stolen plastic plant.

Second of all, you stole a plant that wasn't supposed to be in a coffee mug? Haha, that does sound pretty funny. What kind of plant was it? We once bought insta-plants in pots but one of them didn't grow well.

I really don't know what it was supposed to be, but it was just a plastic decoration. I have no idea if she even knows about it to this day. lol

I'm not sure if you should tell your mom about the thing but maybe she could laugh about it just like you

One time I "accidentally" stole $1,000,000 from a bank. Another time I stole my friend's face... Yeah, it wasn't pretty. But in all seriousness, I haven't accidentally stolen anything, though I have purposely stolen 2 packs of gum when I was ~3 years old. The second time my mom got angry at me and hid the gum so I couldn't have it.

But one time I came close to accidentally stealing a candy bar. I walked into a gas station with my brother and sister on a road trip. We grabbed some snacks, and for some unknown reason I just randomly decided to walk out. I don't know what happened, I didn't even think about what I was doing. I just oddly forgot that we had to pay for them. When the first door opened my sister told me to get back so we could pay for it. I must've been pretty sleepy!

So you ate it even though it wasn't paid for? Wow. I've accidentally stolen things like candy from stores, and everyone thought I was shoplifting. So everyone thought I was some sort of hoodlum...long story.

Most often or not it involves self serving checkouts, because if half the time they are yelling at you to remove something, they are doing something wrong... I mean last time i used one i apparently had to be age checked for a bottle of coke.. Go figure

Anyways the point is that sometimes it doesn't scan the items even if it makes a "boop" noise, so that's how i usually accidentally steal things.. Though one must question if it's unintentional stealing or just a lack of efficiency from the machines.

sonicmcmuffin : I have never seen that people in shops had problems with scanners, they always work in the shops where I go, maybe it's just something that happens near your town. 

Does it have to be accidental? lol. I've stolen a 3 pack of lighters from walmart, I was gonna ask my mom if I could get them, but I got sidetracked in other things and I left it in my jacket, the alarm didn't go off though...

Yes, indeed. A rather embarrassing story of my supposedly eagle-eyed friend who was with me somehow not picking up on the fact that I was carrying a newspaper out of Wal-Mart without paying for it. And it wasn't that long ago, either, maybe a year back or so.

The thing is, at my old school, there are newspaper racks where you can pick up a free copy of the school paper and USA Today, probably among other things. So, I assumed they were free and picked up a nice, big heavy copy of some local paper. This was when I was still planning on pursuing my dreams of becoming a reporter, so I wanted to know what was happening around town.

...I still intend to go back to the store and pay for it.

CatLady : Lol, what a great sharp friend And don't you worry, things like that happen all the time and if it was on purpose people would care about it but now it's a good story to laugh about. I wouldn't go back and pay for it and even if you would go back they would probably tell you that they wouldn't mind so much.

Yeah, I have, I stole some nails form a job site on multiple occasions. 

Of course it was accidental, (Why would I need nails?) but I'm just forgetful sometimes, especially after a long day at work.

It happens to all of us, when you are really tired you can easily make mistakes

The only thing that I can really think of is while I was in Hawai'i. I was in the Army, and me and my friends wanted to go to this one beach, but you actually had to pay for the parking, so we decided to go to this waterfall on the other side of the island instead. It required a 30 minute walk, and a $10 fee per person to get into, since there were a few things to look at along the way. Well, we get all the way to the end, and we swim in the thing where the waterfall is for a good 3 hours. Well, after 3 hours in a 20 foot deep pond with a waterfall, we were exhausted, and did not feel like walking all the way back, so we jacked one of the golf carts and drove it back to the entrance. Best part is, we didn't even get in trouble, even though we got caught. The ticket lady was like, "Did you guys just drive that golf kart up here?" The idiot of the group, Castro, goes, "Yeah, all the way from the waterfall, miss!". She just busts out in laughter and tells us to scram before she changes her mind.
