The Houston Chronicle is reporting on a study done surveying Nationwide High School students' views of First Amendment Rights. Shockingly, 1/3 of those interviewed said that the 1st Amendment went too far guaranteeing Free Speech for all. The third said that some of the rights detailed in the Bill of Rights are unneccessary and said that newspaper censorship was alright in some instances. Almost 20% said that those who have unpopular views shouldn't be allowed to express their opinions in a public forum.

This shocked me when I read it and literally made me sick to my stomach. How can America's youth have forgotten what our forefathers stood for? Freedom of Speech, Religion, Assembly, Press, and Petition are the core of American democracy and these rights can never be surrendered.

Because they are tired of lies. And tired of idiots talking about crap. No offense, this is just my opinion.

Oh, and P.S. that story has a spin on it

John, I read and re-read and could not find any "spin" at all. The only thing that could remotely be interpreted as "partisan" is a mention of Senator Robert Byrd who is a Democrat, however, this has nothing to do with the study and is only a passing example of civics education legislation.

If you would be so kind as to be more specific about the "lies" and the "idiots talking about crap", then perhaps I will consider your remarks as having another purpose than disagreeing for the sake of disagreement. How can you possibly speak against the Freedom of the Press?

More specifically, it's what comes out of what people say that isn't exactly the truth and annoys or hurts kids. Some of them often think that people shouldn't be allowed to say things that are offensive to them or others and therefore I'm not surprised that this survey went that way. I'm a highschool student myself, however, and I completely disagree with what those kids think. Freedom of Speech is a true heritage that I'm proud of.

People often take advantage of these rights. They create mass propaganda and people are tired of being sold lies. I for one am. And heck yes there was a spin! Its was so damn obvious. Even the title did "1 in 3 teens says First Amendment goes 'too far'". Not only that, it only shows ONE side of the story. This is a prime example of the spin in our media I hate.

I didn't read the article in the link, not yet anyways, because I had a short time before I had to go to school. So I can't have an opinion of the "spin" on the article, but how is there a spin in the title? It's a statistic.

Sorry if this is flame, but your idiocy seems to have gotten the better of my temper...

You're full of bulls***. You're so full of crap, man - you don't even know what the hell you're talking about... "Too far"? They believe freedom of speech goes too far... How is this a spin of any sort? Do you mean the word (no s) "too", as in you're implying that it's an opinion and thus doesn't hold up to be valid? Well guess what, dumbass, it's an opinion poll. Maybe you should think before you say anything, or just shut the f*** up.

Did you read the f***ing article? Can you f***ing read, or do you just have Windows Narrator on all the time?

Spin? What the hell do you mean by "spin", jackass? A spin on a story would mean that at some point in the story, it quickly turns around, ie changes in an unexpected way. This news story was fairly consistent - it didn't have any sort of spin.

Is the word you're searching for within your limited vocabulary SLANT? Do you mean a liberal slant? If so, then what the f*** is wrong with you? All this article does is lay out the facts... This is what people think, and this is why many people believe this sort of thought is occuring.

Nothing else. If you don't have an intelligent reply, then please refer to shutting the f*** up.

Hey John, it seems apparent to me that you have never seen a poll before. Here is what the question asked to the students most likely looked like. I'll go slowly so you can understand:

What is your opinion of the First Amendment:
1. It goes to far
2. It's just right
3. It doesn't go far enough
4. No opinon

There, no spin. Now, if I want any more of your s***, I'll squeeze your head.

Nasus and Dekker, you are both receiving warnings. That is just uncalled for! Especially you Dekker, you should know better than to resort to such flamming.

Please get along.
This thread will be closed to prevent further wars and flaming.
