I've had a lot of people request that I re-create this thread, so I'm doing so. I can only hope that it remains successful this time, as the first one originally did.

So here's the idea:  We support one another in leading healthier lives. That's pretty much it.  We can express our goals, check in on one another, and ask questions about our routines.  We can discuss what we're eating as well.  Any steps we are taking towards a healthier lifestyle and thinner waistlines are appropriate for this thread.

I'd even like to post a monthly challenge for any partakers. I'll post it below.

As for me personally, I've gotten out of the habit of exercise, and I've gained enough weight that most of my old clothes no longer fit me well. At an unhealthy 180 pounds, I'd like to eventually lose at least 40.  (And yes, there is a difference between healthy weight made up in muscles, and weight created by fat.)  My goal this month is to run / jog / walk at least 100 miles. In the past, I've been able to do an average of 4-5 miles a day, so placing my goal at 100 gives me some leeway while also being achievable.

I've created a little ticker to help me keep track:

June's Challenge:

Yes, I totally stole this image, but the source isn't exactly a link I want to promote, as it contains a curse word.  In case you aren't sure of the appropriate form for a squat, here is a short clip which should  help. It's designed with women in mind, but I'm sure men could figure this out.

Singelli : This is a fantastic idea!  Thanks for sharing!  Over the past few months, I've grown overweight and lazy.  Being accountable is a good thing!  I'm way out of shape, though, so a goal as high as yours is currently not achievable at the moment on my end.  But I pledge to bike an average of mile a day every day, except for Sundays, increasing the amount by half a mile every week.  At the end of every week, I'll estimate how far I've gone in order to plan ahead.

My goal for this month is to run 1 mile per day. In addition, starting June 6th, I'll be going to the gym for 2 hours per weekday (and on saturday) because I have a membership from June 6th until August 6th. Gonna drop dat extra and make mahself look all good n stuff.

This should be fun to try, since I have way too much free-time otherwise. (No job, at the moment) I won't be doing a whole lot of walking, but I think I can definitely try out the squats, at least. (I have to be wary not to go under 1200 calories after exercise, because I keep doing that ) I use MyFitnessPal to track meals, if anyone is interested in trying that out, too.

Singelli, those squat numbers are going to be too aggressive if you aren't already at a high level of training.  50 squats in a day is a lot much less 100 or more.

That's too sharp a climb.  Focus on the walking, on the cardio, and on the time spent moving on your feet.  Don't worry so much about the number of squats.  The distance of 100 miles might also be a little bit much.  That's 3 miles every day.  That's a 40 minute walk for most people and while an excellent goal, maybe an over achieving one.  I don't want you to be frustrated if you don't hit it.

Either way, go get 'em, everyone!

I walk fourty minutes a day just walking my dog - so I think the goal of 100 miles is perfectly reasonable. Or... well, I *should* be walking him for twenty minutes twice a day, minimum. I think the number of squats gets realllly intense, though. I think I might prepare my own chart that isn't quite so steep ._.

warmaker :
Ktanaqui :

There were notes on the chart about how the squats don't have to be all done at once.  However, I had to cut it out because the site name was behind that part of the image, and the site name contains a curse word.

In all honesty, I was a bit dubious about the chart myself.  However, I went through a pretty tough program last summer and it didn't seem all that bad once you committed yourself.  If you can come up with a less intense chart, though, Ktanaqui, I'd love to use it.

warmaker, I don't really think the 100 miles is steep for my own personal goal. I'm not saying everyone should aim for it, but I know I can do it pretty easily.

Shoot, I'm pretty sure I could do the 100 miles myself. I think I might try to join you in that. After all, I have a dog who would love the time spent walking. I just have to figure out a decent way to mark how far I've gone... grr -.- Oh well.

As for the chart... I'll look into that more tomorrow. And if it's not all at one time (that's the impression I had), then I can see where it is more doable. I think, what I will do, is break it up to Morning/Night, so its not so scary to look at :p Definitely sticking to the 20 tomorrow, though. It's really reasonable, as a starting point.

10 in the morning before break. 10 at night before bed. That kind of idea.

I meant to do the squats yesterday, but I had a relatively bad day and then ended up falling asleep early.  Today, however, I did do the 25 squats.

It's certainly been too long since I exercised though. Getting to 4 miles was a lot harder than I remembered, and I didn't get to finish my day's goal because I started too late.  If I had done half early on in the day, I could have done the other half at night.  It's a shame, but at least I've gotten a small start to my 100 miles!

How is everyone else doing?
Ktanaqui :  How's the chart coming along?
becerra95 :  I thought you wanted in on this?
mrfe : Did you make your mile today?

So like, ever since classes ended, I've been neglecting my daily exercise with my stationary bike.

My goal is to use it for 50 minutes 5 or 6 times a week.

Well, I kind of failed that goal for today. I was only able to use it for 30 minutes before becoming extremely exhausted from it. I guess it's probably because I haven't used it in like, a week and a half and I was nearly at home lazing around for most of those days. So probably some sluggishness is causing me to do poorly on my routine.

Perhaps tomorrow will be better.

Singelli :

I'm having difficulties with any sort of a graphic, tbh. x.x I have the concept planned out easy enough, but... I am having difficulties with an image. I think I might just pick a nice background and just put text on it instead of trying to do one from scratch. In the meantime, here's what I've got worked out for this week:

June 3rd :: Morning 10 :: Evening 10
June 4th :: Morning 14 :: Evening 14
June 5th :: Morning 16 :: Evening 16
June 6th :: Morning 20 :: Evening 20
June 7th :: Morning 24 :: Evening 24
June 8th :: Morning 28 :: Evening 28
June 9th :: REST

This has you actually doing slightly more than the original chart, but broken up into much smaller, reasonable increments. I could also possibly do a chart with three times a day instead of two? Again, three times a day would wind up being more squats over all.

June 3rd :: Morning 5 :: Afternoon 5 :: Evening 5
June 4th :: Morning 10 :: Afternoon 10 :: Evening 10
June 5th :: Morning 12 :: Afternoon 12 :: Evening 12
June 6th :: Morning 15 :: Afternoon 15 :: Evening 15
June 7th :: Morning 18 :: Afternoon 18 :: Evening 18
June 8th :: Morning 20 :: Afternoon 20 :: Evening 20
June 9th :: REST

EDIT:
Did 20 squats. Holy cookies. That left me shaky. I think I'm definitely going to be careful with the rest of these.

I feel pretty proud of myself. I did the 30 squats, and I managed to do 4.42 miles. Granted, I had to split my light jog into two 30 minutes sessions (with a 20 minute break between), but I still feel happy about it. I'm looking forward to getting in shape enough to NOT need the break.

How is everyone else doing?

Ktanaqui : I quite expect that once the numbers increase for the squats, I'm going to need to split them into two or three sets, actually. 30 today seemed pretty doable to me. I hope I'm doing them right.

Well, I'm pretty sure I discovered why the twenty was so difficult for me. I'd only had 300 calories worth of food/drink for the entire day at that point. Not enough to support my body sitting still, much less trying to do any exercises. I chose to sit out the last ten for today simply so that I didn't knock myself unconscious from it; I had trouble even climbing the stairs because I was so weak
It really scared me, to say the least x.x
I'm going to definitely try doing tomorrow's in the two sets - with PROPER sustenance to cover it.

I didn't do so well, yesterday.  For whatever reason, I felt exceptionally lazy and unenergetic.  My body was sore from the exercise, but I don't think it had anything to do with that. I just couldn't feel motivated to get up and do anything at all.  I did 20 of the 35 squats, and I only jogged 2.1 miles.  I'm going to have to do a lot of catching up if I want to meet my goal. Maybe 100 was too steep of a goal after all?  I know it's not yet halfway through the month, but I'm a little worried about that goal.

By the way, if more people don't participate in this thread, I can't really justify it being kept open. I also don't want to summon everyone every day.  That would get annoying.

Yesterday, I actually did a lot worse on my stationary cycling than my last post in this thread, sigh. My stamina must be getting worse, since I was only able to struggle with 26 minutes on it.

However, today I did the exact same time, but my performance was probably better than yesterday's. I guess I just have to keep going to let my body get used to building up its stamina.

Oh, I also tried to do some squats on both days. It was really difficult; I only managed to do 5 correct squats yesterday and 10 correct ones today. My thighs are aching.

Come on people, it's summer! Let's get exercising before those extra pounds come biting us in the butt (literally!)

Oh, also, anyone can join in! As Singelli stated in her first post, "Any step we take towards a healthy lifestyle and thinner waistline is appropriate for this thread."

Singelli : How's that 100 mile goal coming along? Also, I hear cleaning is a great way to burn off some extra calories.

Ktanaqui : How are you doing with those squats? I tried doing at least 5 a day myself. Needless to say, my thighs still ache (and my knees a little) three days later. Be careful on them and try not to push yourself if it's too much.

mrfe : How is your daily mile goal and weekly gym going?

becerra95 : YOU

As for myself, I did about 30 minutes on my stationary bike today. And 5 squats, I think my legs would have given out if I did anymore, heh.

I didn't work on my goals at all this past two days. My electricity went out, I spent the night at a hotel (and I just can't use their workout rooms...), and then I was feeling a little discouraged as well.  I also went back to work yesterday unexpectedly, and will be working pretty much all week.  However, maybe I can get back on track today after work..... let's hope I feel motivated to do so!
