How many of you own, or plan to own, a Wii U? What games do you have, and/or what games do you want? What do you think of Nintendo's business blunders? Do you think it will fail, or succeed?

Me personally, I own one. I have a sizable library of awesome (but not necessarily exclusive) titles for it and I'm pretty content. I admit, Nintendo has utterly failed at both selling it and establishing its developer base. The slow trickle of games lately would make me more unhappy probably if I didn't have a life that commands so much of my time. I think it'll succeed in the end, but it definitely will never be considered the greatest Nintendo console ever. Not by a long shot.

I currently own: Monster Hunter 3 U, Super Mario Bros. U + Luigi U, Super Mario 3D World, Ninja Gaiden: Razor's Edge, Need for Speed Most Wanted U, Pokemon Rumble U, a myriad of virtual console titles, plus I have Mario Kart 8 on pre order and Skylanders Swap Force U in the mail.

I'm either planning on getting a Wii U or a regular Wii. My other Wii broke (lasted for 6 years), so I need to replace it. I think Nintendo's newest console would succeed, if the game prices were lower. Also, I heard a lot of people saying the Wii U is slower than the average Wii, so I'm kinda scared on buying one. I'll probably give it about 7 months and buy one on Black Friday (some 3DS games are coming out soon; Tomodachi Life, and maybe SSB4, we'll see.)

I definitely plan to get one, but only because I have to if I want in on Mario, Harvest Moon, and Zelda console titles. I think it's a failure of a console, simply because 90% of Nintendo's console customers didn't want it. Literally 90%, just look at the console sales compared to last generation's.

I personally think Nintendo is blundering constantly anymore. Nobody is taking the WiiU seriously, and yet they keep making all of the ads a bunch of kids that look like they couldn't be over nine years old, playing their systems. That's great that kids can play their systems, but who has the $300 to drop on the console, the nine year old, or their ADULT parent? And single adults don't want something made for kids. Now I know the WiiU isn't a kids console, but Nintendo is trying their best to give it that image.

Nintendo is in a great position: they have no competitors for their target crowd. They need to capitalize on this, but they seem to have no idea what they're doing.

Two simple steps to saving the WiiU:
1. Produce ads showing adults and older teens playing serious games.
2. Open up the Indie developer scene by not only allowing people to develop more freely, but also offering them free advertising for X amount of time, make them good deals for developing solely on your console. The Indie devs need to not only be allowed to do their work on your systems, but also be encouraged to do so.

And to save Nintendo, make a console that uses normal controllers, no motion stuff. Nintendo is in a hole they've put themselves in. They can easily get out of it if they know what they're doing.

Kuti_Kat : The Wii U actually has a working Wii built-in, and I don't mean an -emulated- Wii. It actually contains Wii hardware, so when you buy a Wii U - you get a Wii too. Only catch is, it isn't compatible with GCN games or accessories. As for Wii U being slower than Wii, well... the interface can be a bit slow when opening or closing programs yes. Loading a game or the eShop can easily take 5 - 10 seconds. But gameplay wise? No, the Wii U is much more powerful than Wii... no game showcases that better than Mario Kart 8. It's just that the interface sucks at load times, but only in the WII U menu itself.

I actually own Smash Bros. Brawl and play it on my Wii U a lot. I can assure you, it's not slower than it is on Wii. As for the game prices, well...

You're right, it'd help push sales at this point. But that's pretty sad considering the games are, I feel, worth every penny they're priced for generally. But would it help their profits? Proooobably not.

Eirinn : I thoroughly agree that Nintendo has no clue what they're doing right now. It's plain for all to see. I also agree that they're really following the wrong demographic (catering to kids is fine, it's what Nintendo always has done - but being exclusionary is a death sentence for a business) and that they should ALSO cater more to the general gaming crowd than they have.

I'm iffy on the other stuff. Motion controls have yet to really ever be a focal point in Wii U games, they're more an optional side dish this time around for most games. You can almost always bypass them. The controller is actually great too, and plays just like a regular controller. It''s not hard or awkward to use like it looks, and the ability to view games/movies/etc away from your TV or with no TV on at all? It's pretty sweet.

As for indie developers, https://wiiu-developers.nintendo.com/

The Wii U is /already/ an open platform indies can take advantage of easily. They're just not doing it much yet.The idea of encouraging them through ads and spotlighting is a fantastic idea though. Steam does this for any developer which submits games to them, and it definitely works.

No, I do not have a WiiU and never will. I don't like the console, I don't like the direction Nintendo has been going (for years now), and I don't think the thing holds up well. From what I have seen every game on the system is nothing more than a first party rehash. Really the WiiU is the same as this to me.

All though I will most likely get a ps4 there is a small chance I will get a wii U. Sadly there is not many online games for it at the moment.

The Wii U just does not seem like a very good system for me. I already have enough mario with my 3ds and vizzed.

Lumian :

I own one, but I don't play much on it.

- Nintendo land:

Great game actually, the ghost hunt is good enough on it's own, though the Zelda Game is fun, and the Metroid blast is awesome!

I like most all of the other games on this as well.

- New super mario bros U

Somehow, I never got into it really, seemed a lot stranger to me. Probably not bad, just different.

- Mario and Sonic at the winter olympics

Newest game that I'm playing, actually a lot of fun, for certain games, I just need to make time and actually enjoy it.

I haven't seen any games that I'm interested in Buying though. I guess that If I want mature clean games that I may have to do Steam.

And yeah. . . .please. .. .no more motion controls. . . :/

Sword legion : Despite wildly popular opinion, there are mature, yet clean games on PlayStation consoles. You could look into the PS4 library as it progresses if you want something like that.

Lumian (Fake summon. ) Yeah, I'm aware that the WiiU is already accessible to Indie devs, I was getting at that not being enough. I know (breaking into the Indie developing scene myself) that Indie devs have said that those huge sales on Steam actually boost their profits, because despite losing %50 on a game sale, the volume of sales and front page advertisement makes up for it and turns a better profit.

See, you just won me more for the WiiU in a single paragraph than Nintendo has in over a year's worth of ads (Lumian4NintendoAdDivisionPresident). Nintendo has never done anything to let it be widely known via ads that motion was almost entirely optional. I have no problem with the controller having a screen, and it could actually be useful, but I'm not sure if it's as good as a regular controller. See it makes me feel like I'm playing tablet games, but I can see it being useful. Basically, if motion isn't necessary, I'm up for a WiiU.

I'm going to get a Wii U, but only for the next Smash Bros. game. Those who know me know that I am a HUGE Smash Bros. fan. None of the current Wii U games really look that interesting to me except for Super Mario 3D World (but I hear it's easy, and I really like a challenge) and the New Super Mario/Luigi games (which only look somewhat fun). But maybe there are some good hidden gems that I don't know about.

I do indeed Wii U. It is far from their best, and the simple fact that you have to wipe your wii clean in order to transfer something has me a little sad, but there are a couple of fun games and more coming out.
Super Mario 3D World is probably the best Mario they've done in a while, and Wind Waker HD is great too, even if it is a remake. Olympic games, Pikmin 3, and Tropical Freeze are pretty cool too.

Probably not.

The only difference to me is that there's a portable pad to the Wii. The games will get more expensive to me and it's a lot to keep track in order to get some of the games. Plus the Wii U in general seems to focus more on multiplayer games just like the regular Wii did.
